Mobile-Edge Computing for Multi-Services Digital Twin-Enabled IoT Heterogeneous Networks

A scheme for edge computing-enabled offloading in a digital twin (DT) enabled heterogeneous network (HetNet) of multi-services IoT devices (IDs) is proposed. This scheme optimizes the association and handover of IDs, offloading ratio, and resource allocation considering the number of IDs, deadline requirements, and resource capacities. The objective is to enhance future generation networks by considering the ID movement, diverse ID requests, and network heterogeneity. We formulate the problem as Joint ID assOciatIon, offloadiNg ratio, Wireless bandwidth and computIng reSource allocation, and digital twin placEment (JOINWISE), aiming to minimize the task completion time of all IDs while considering ID movement. Since JOINWISE is a mixed-integer nonlinear problem, we decompose it into two sub-problems: the ID Association (IDA) problem and the offloading Ratio, DT plAcement, bandwiDth and computIng resource allOcation (RADIO) problem. IDA can be solved by mapping it to a multi-dimensional multiple knapsacks problem. Due to the non-convexity, high dimension of decision variables, and dynamic HetNet environment of RADIO, we propose a deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) based reinforcement learning method to iteratively solve the two sub-problems. Simulation results have confirmed the effectiveness of our proposed scheme in tackling the JOINWISE problem. © 2015 IEEE.

The importance of text classification algorithms has increased due to the growing availability of large-scale data. This has led to a greater demand for efficient classification techniques and encoding algorithms. Word embedding techniques, like Glove, have shown significant success in encoding semantic relationships between words. This research paper aims to reassess the effectiveness of Glove embeddings coupled with deep learning algorithms. The impact of Glove embedding on two widely used deep learning models: Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) and Recurrent Convolutional Neural Networks (RCNN) is analyzed. The results highlight the impact of Glove embeddings on deep learning models, showcasing significant performance enhancements in some cases while having minimal effects in others. By examining the impact of Glove embeddings on traditional ML algorithms in a previous study, valuable context for understanding the performance differences between the two approaches is obtained. © 2024 The Authors. The future sixth-generation(6G) paradigm aims to seamlessly integrate communication and environmental sensing capabilities into a single radio signal, promising improved efficiency and cost-effectiveness through simultaneous data communications and environmental perception. At the core of this evolution, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) and its advanced waveforms emerge as pivotal for integrated sensing and communications(ISAC). This study introduces a concise and unified ISAC waveform design framework based on orthogonal multicarriers. This framework supports versatile applications of OFDM and its derivative waveforms within a generalized ISAC system, marking a significant leap in integrating communication and sensing capabilities. A distinguishing feature of this framework is its adaptability,allowing users to intelligently select modulation strategies based on their specific environmental needs. This adaptability optimizes performance across diverse scenarios. Central to our innovations is the proposal of discrete Fourier transformspread OFDM with index modulation(DFT-S-OFDM-IM). This framework is paired with newly proposed signal processing methods for single-input single-output and multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) systems. Extensive evaluations highlight DFT-S-OFDM-IM's superiority, including dramatically reduced peak-to-average power ratios(PAPRs), competitive communication performance, and exceptional sensing capabilities, striking an elegant balance between communication capacity and environmental sensing precision.

Ecosystems are undergoing unprecedented persistent deterioration due to unsustainable anthropogenic human activities,such as overfishing and deforestation,and the effects of such damage on ecological stability are *** recent advances in experimental and theoretical studies on regime shifts and tipping points,theoretical tools for understanding the extinction chain,which is the sequence of species extinctions resulting from overexploitation,are still lacking,especially for large-scale nonlinear networked *** this study,we developed a mathematical tool to predict regime shifts and extinction chains in ecosystems under multiple exploitation situations and verified it in 26 real-world mutualistic networks of various sizes and *** discovered five phases during the exploitation process:safe,partial extinction,bistable,tristable,and collapse,which enabled the optimal design of restoration strategies for degraded or collapsed *** validated our approach using a 20-year dataset from an eelgrass restoration ***,we also found a specific region in the diagram spanning exploitation rates and competition intensities,where exploiting more species helps increase *** computational tool provides insights into harvesting,fishing,exploitation,or deforestation plans while conserving or restoring the biodiversity of mutualistic ecosystems.

Because of their development and success, MANETs are now preferred alternatives in many fields of study and application. The IEEE 802.11 standard is the basis of most wireless technologies. To treat collisions in wireless networks, IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) MAC layer employs Binary Exponential Backoff (BEB) algorithm, that is helpful in decreasing the potential of collision, but comes at the expense of several network performance metrics, such as medium access delay, bandwidth management, power use, and fairness. A Deep Learning technique called Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) allows an agent to communicate with the environment in order to accomplish a goal. In the present paper, we suggest Q-learning (QL), one of the DRL approaches to improve the Binary Exponential Backoff (BEB) in MANETs. The intelligently designed Int-BEB aims for better CW selection;this selection strikes to reduce collisions as much as possible and to give more chances to nodes that make collisions to access the channel by taking into consideration their residual energy. In-depth simulations are performed to evaluate the performance of the proposed mechanism. The performance of Int-BEB is evaluated in diverse networks with several criteria such as packet successful transmission, packet loss and energy. © 2023 IEEE.

For permanent magnet synchronous machines(PMSMs),accurate inductance is critical for control design and condition *** to magnetic saturation,existing methods require nonlinear saturation model and measurements from multiple load/current conditions,and the estimation is relying on the accuracy of saturation model and other machine parameters in the *** harmonic produced by harmonic currents is inductance-dependent,and thus this paper explores the use of magnitude and phase angle of the speed harmonic for accurate inductance *** estimation models are built based on either the magnitude or phase angle,and the inductances can be from d-axis voltage and the magnitude or phase angle,in which the filter influence in harmonic extraction is considered to ensure the estimation *** inductances can be estimated from the measurements under one load condition,which is free of saturation ***,the inductance estimation is robust to the change of other machine *** proposed approach can effectively improve estimation accuracy especially under the condition with low current *** and comparisons are conducted on a test PMSM to validate the proposed approach.

It is of great concern for high performance microprocessors to optimize logic delay and improve performance in the semi-custom design flow based on commercial standard cell library. To solve this issue, the paper proposes an automated method to optimize the delay of critical path in any block. Firstly, we construct the logic cone for critical paths based on the logic netlist obtained from semi-custom design flow. Secondly, the algorithm conducts large-scale graph partitioning on the logic cone with appropriate constraints. Thirdly, using two-level optimization, we perform logic restructuring on sub graphs resulting from partitioning to get a set of new logic cells. Finally, employing a match algorithm, we pick out high-reusable restructured logic cells for full-custom circuit implementation and replace corresponding circuit structures with them in the logic netlist. The proposed algorithm picks out 5 logic cells for restructuring. Experimental results demonstrate that the approach achieves a reduction in the logic levels and logic delay can be reduced by about 10% after replacing the corresponding structures in the logic netlist. The work effectively reduces critical path delay, which has the potential to enhance the performance of microprocessors. © 2024 IEEE.

Continuous glucose monitoring(CGM) technology has grown rapidly to track real-time blood glucose levels and trends with improved sensor accuracy. The ease of use and wide availability of CGM will facilitate safe and effective decision making for diabetes management. Here, we developed an attention-based deep learning model, CGMformer, pretrained on a well-controlled and diverse corpus of CGM data to represent individual's intrinsic metabolic state and enable clinical applications. During pretraining, CGMformer encodes glucose dynamics including glucose level, fluctuation, hyperglycemia, and hypoglycemia into latent space with self-supervised learning. It shows generalizability in imputing glucose value across five external datasets with different populations and metabolic states(MAE = 3.7 mg/d L). We then fine-tuned CGMformer towards a diverse panel of downstream tasks in the screening of diabetes and its complications using task-specific data, which demonstrated a consistently boosted predictive accuracy over direct fine-tuning on a single task(AUROC = 0.914 for type 2 diabetes(T2D) screening and 0.741 for complication screening). By learning an intrinsic representation of an individual's glucose dynamics,CGMformer classifies non-diabetic individuals into six clusters with elevated T2D risks, and identifies a specific cluster with lean body-shape but high risk of glucose metabolism disorders, which is overlooked by traditional glucose measurements. Furthermore, CGMformer achieves high accuracy in predicting an individual's postprandial glucose response with dietary modelling(Pearson correlation coefficient = 0.763)and helps personalized dietary recommendations. Overall, CGMformer pretrains a transformer neural network architecture to learn an intrinsic representation by borrowing information from a large amount of daily glucose profiles, and demonstrates predictive capabilities fine-tuned towards a broad range of downstream applications, holding promise for the ear
