This paper describes a method of single-shot global localization based on graph-theoretic matching of instances between a query and the prior map. The proposed framework employs correspondence matching based on the maximum clique problem (MCP). The framework is potentially applicable to other map and/or query modalities thanks to the graph-based abstraction of the problem, while many of existing global localization methods rely on a query and the dataset in the same modality. We implement it with a semantically labeled 3D point cloud map, and a semantic segmentation image as a query. Leveraging the graph-theoretic framework, the proposed method realizes global localization exploiting only the map and the query. In order to provide a more flexible wireless rechargeable sensor network, a charger and a self-propelled vehicle are integrated into one vehicle in recent years. The path selection problem of mobile chargers can be formulated as the well-known travelling salesman problem. Therefore, metaheuristic algorithms can be applied to solve the planning problem of mobile chargers. Some researches presented planning methods based on the Simulated Annealing (SA) and Tabu Search (TS) algorithms but the results are not satisfied. In this paper, we not only design a novel encoding approach but also the fitness function for proposing an efficient planning algorithm based on the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed ACO-based algorithm achieves a shorter planning path for a longer network lifetime compared with that generated by the SA and TS algorithms. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Wearable sensors have been rapidly developed for application in various human monitoring ***,the wearing comfort and thermal properties of these devices have been largely ignored,and these characteristics urgently need to be ***,we develop a wearable and breathable nanofiber-based sensor with excellent thermal management functionality based on passive heat preservation and active Joule heating *** multifunctional device consists of a micropatterned carbon nanotube(CNT)/thermoplastic polyurethane(TPU)nanofiber electrode,a microporous ionic aerogel electrolyte and a microstructured Ag/TPU nanofiber *** to the presence of a supercapacitive sensing mechanism and the appli-cation of microstructuration,the sensor shows excellent sensing performance,with a sensitivity of 24.62 ***,due to the overall porous structure and hydrophobicity of TPU,the sensor shows good breathability(62 mm/s)and water repellency,with a water contact angle of 151.2°.In addition,effective passive heat preservation is achieved by combining CNTs with high solar absorption rates(85%)as the top layer facing the outside,aerogel with a low thermal conductivity(0.063 W m-1 k-1)as the middle layer for thermal insulation,and Ag with a high infrared reflectance rate as the bottom layer facing the *** warming,this material yields a higher temperature than ***,the active Joule heat-ing effect is realized by applying current through the bottom resistive electrode,which can quickly increase the temperature to supply controlled warming on *** proposed wearable and breathable sensor with tunable thermal properties is promising for monitoring and heat therapy applications in cold environments.

Teaching English is one of many challenging subjects to teach. English teachers have always been trying different methods to maximize students’ proficiency and competency in the targeted language as it plays an important role in many aspects, especially in education. Some teachers have sorted to adapt the digital gamification method into their English classroom instruction. Furthermore, teaching using digital gamification is a relatively new concept. In the learning context, digital gamification is an educational method that incorporates game-like elements into the classroom to increase student engagement, promotes a learning environment with positive motivation, and benefits student performance. Research pertaining to digital gamification is growing but very limited study has yet to examine both perspectives of the teachers and the students towards its implementation and how it can influence the engagement level and performance outcomes in a Malaysian context. To urge this matter into the light, this research intended 1) to investigate the teachers’ and students’ perspectives towards the implementation of digital gamification in English classrooms on an engagement level; 2) to investigate the teachers' and students’ perspectives towards the implementation of digital gamification in English classrooms on performance outcomes. Adapting the quantitative research method, an online questionnaire consisting of 3 discrete sections to answer the research questions was distributed to 86 respondents from the high schools in Malaysia. Then, using SPSS version 27 the responses from the participants were processed to derive the numerical data such as the frequencies, means, average means, and the standard deviation. The main research findings indicated that both teachers and students have a positive perception of the implementation of digital gamification in the English classroom as it greatly improved the degree of engagement and performance outcome. In recent years, the widespread use of online facial videos has brought increasing attention to remote photoplethys-mography (rPPG) in affective computing. Recovering blood volume pulse (BVP) signals from facial videos is a complex task, involving multiple stages of preprocessing, image analysis, and postprocessing to accurately reconstruct waveforms. Not only is the heart rate metric utilized for affective computing, but the heart rate variability (HRV) metric is even more significant. The challenge in obtaining HRV indices through rPPG lies in the necessity for algorithms to precisely predict the BVP peak positions. In this paper, we collected the Remote Learning Affect and Physiology (RLAP) dataset, which includes over 32 hours of highly synchronized video and labels from 58 subjects. This is a public dataset whose BVP labels have been meticulously designed to better suit the training of HRV models. Using the RLAP dataset, we trained a new model called Seq-rPPG, it is a model based on one-dimensional convolution, and experimental results reveal that this structure is more suitable for handling HRV tasks, which outperformed all other baselines in HRV performance and also demonstrated significant advantages in computational efficiency. Accurate gait detection is crucial in utilizing the ample health information embedded in it. As an alternative of the laborious and demanding sensor-based detection, vision-based approaches ***, its complicate feature engineering process and heavy reliance on the lateral views serve as challenges. This study aimed to propose a view-independent vision-based gait event detection using deep learning networks that requires no pre-processing. A total of 22 participants performed seven different walking and running-related actions and the sequential video frames acquired from their actions were used as the input of the deep learning networks to produce the probability of gait events as outputs. The Transformer network and ResNet18 trained with sequential video frames achieved an F1-score of 0.956 or higher for walking straight and walking around. The detection performance on the frontal, lateral, and backside views did not differ much. The findings enhance applicability of vision-based approach and contribute to increasing its utility in health monitoring. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The conventional EEG machine measures brain signal frequencies between 1 and 300 Hz on the scalp. By utilizing Fourier transform (FFT), it generates a 2D frequency profile. Our innovative EEG, known as Dodecanogram (DDG), operates in two modes. In the first mode, it detects a wide range of frequencies from 6 THz to 1 milliHz, creating a brain scan based on resonance. In the second mode, it uses picosecond pulses to capture potential surges, measuring their duration, intensity, and phase variation, revealing brain activity patterns. Both modes work simultaneously in the DDG device. To minimize environmental interference, we use interconnected DDG devices on eight human brains. The detected results from DDG show that DDG is a fundamental technology for understanding various mental states. Potential applications include neuro-disease diagnosis and exploring treatments involving electrical and electromagnetic pulses. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Recently, cloud computing has been recognized as an effective paradigm for offering an on-demand platform, software services, and an efficient infrastructure to cloud clients. Due to the exponential growth of cloud tasks and the rapidly increasing number of cloud users, scheduling and balancing these tasks among involved heterogeneous virtual machines becomes an Non-deterministic Polynomial hard (NP-hard) optimization problem considering significant constraints, such as high rate of resource usage, low scheduling time, and low implementation cost. Therefore, various meta-heuristic algorithms have been widely used to tackle the issue. The current paper proposes a novel load balancing mechanism using the ant colony optimization and artificial bee colony algorithms, called LBAA, which aims to balance the load division among systems in data centers. The simulation outcomes confirm that our algorithm outperforms previous works regarding response time, imbalance degree, makespan, and resource utilization up to 25%, 15%, 12%, and 10%, respectively. © 2023 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

This study analyzes and compares deep learning models, including Naïve-CNN, VGG16, EfficientNetV2, and MobileNetV2, for facial emotion recognition using the FER2013, and collected Zoom datasets are presented. The paper discusses the data collection of human subjects over Zoom to gather quality samples for the seven emotions targeted with the classifiers. Preprocessing steps are considered to enhance histogram information, brightness contrast, and augmentation of both datasets. The performance of these models was evaluated based on their accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. An iOS app was developed to test the trained models in real-time with YouTube videos. The Naïve-CNN and VGG16 models demonstrated the highest performance, while the EfficientNetV2 and MobileNetV2 models showed potential for further improvement during training and testing. The iOS app implementation showed the expected weak results of the trained models but observed capacities that the model provided for actual utilization on mobile devices. The work provides valuable insights into the challenges faced by deep learning CNN-based models for facial emotion recognition and suggests directions for future research.

ChatGPT has proven its effectiveness as an assistance tool in the learning process for students. In this paper, an experiment was designed using ChatGPT to generate practice problems aligned with specific course objectives for a computer science (CS) introductory programming course, focusing on assessment questions in the form of short answer questions (SAQ) and multiple choice questions (MCQ). The paper aims to investigate how ChatGPT can assist educators in generating high quality assessment questions that align with course objectives. The evaluation is done by specialized educators. The findings demonstrate that ChatGPT offers valuable support for teachers in establishing coherent practice exam items that align with course objectives; however, caution must be used when utilizing ChatGPT to create assessment questions to ensure they are error-free and match the evaluation rubric.
