A natural and intuitive way to externalize these imaginary shapes is through our hands by simply sketching or tracing their outline in space. If we could capture and then interpret our hand shapes, then we would be able to express spatial information in computer-generated graphical environments in a simple and extremely powerful way. Placing numerous data objects and their corresponding labels in limited screen space is a challenging problem in information visualization systems. Extending map-oriented techniques, this paper describes static placement algorithms and develops metrics (such as compactness and labeling rate) as a basis for comparison among these algorithms. A control panel facilitates user customization by showing the metrics for alternative algorithms. Dynamic placement techniques that go beyond map-oriented techniques demonstrate additional possibilities. User actions can lead to selective display of data objects and their labels. The multi participant VR system can more enhance the sense of reality than existing single user VR systems. But, we should be careful when designing the system, since the current Internet using TCP/IP cannot afford to deliver such a massive amount of information required for the real time constraint of a VR system. We introduce distributed network structure and protocols for multiple user virtual space navigation and interaction through their avatars. This network structure is composed of heterogeneous multi servers, multiview clients and protocols. The multiview client can give proper information to the avatar when navigating the distributed virtual environment. And, for minimizing traffic on the network, we designed the VSTP-the Virtual Space Transfer Protocol to meet real time constraints. The avatars have nine behaviors and recognize the state of each other by using the pre-defined VSTP protocol.

Image editing systems are essentially pixel-based. In this paper we propose a novel method for image editing in which the primitive working unit is not a pixel but an edge. The feasibility of this proposal is suggested by recent work showing that a grey-scale image can be accurately represented by its edge map if a suitable edge model and scale selection method are employed. In particular, an efficient algorithm has been reported to invert such an edge representation to yield a high-fidelity reconstruction of the original image. We have combined these algorithms together with an efficient method for contour grouping and an intuitive user interface to allow users to perform image editing operations directly in the contour domain. Experimental results suggest that this novel combination of vision algorithms may lead to substantial improvements in the efficiency of certain classes of image editing operations.
