Although access to sufficient screen space is crucial to knowledge work, workers often find themselves with limited access to display infrastructure in remote or public settings. While virtual displays can be used to extend the available screen space through extended reality (XR) head-worn displays (HWD), we must better understand the implications of working with them in public settings from both users’ and bystanders’ viewpoints. To this end, we conducted two user studies. We first explored the usage of a hybrid AR display across real-world settings and tasks. We focused on how users take advantage of virtual displays and what social and environmental factors impact their usage of the system. A second study investigated the differences between working with a laptop, an AR system, or a VR system in public. We focused on a single location and participants performed a predefined task to enable direct comparisons between the conditions while also gathering data from bystanders. The combined results suggest a positive acceptance of XR technology in public settings and show that virtual displays can be used to accompany existing devices. We highlighted some environmental and social factors. We saw that previous XR experience and personality can influence how people perceive the use of XR in public. In addition, we confirmed that using XR in public still makes users stand out and that bystanders are curious about the devices, yet have no clear understanding of how they can be used. In a survey, a lot of questions and answers are listed and participators will select one of the answers for each question. Sometimes, participators may not be willing to select the preferred one item in the answers because the item may damage the privacy of themselves. If this question is not answered, then it reveals that the question or the answers are sensitive, which also damages the privacy. Besides, each participator may have distinct privacy concerns even for the same questions and answers, thus the privacy-aware questions and answers cannot be determined and be removed in advance. Thus, the dilemma is how to select the answers for privacy-aware questions yet maintain the utility of the answering results in the survey. In this paper, we propose a general method to protect the various privacy in the investigation without the knowledge of privacy to be protected in advance. The main idea is that participators can randomly select answers if the privacy is the concern for themselves in the answers for this question. Our method is lightweight so as to be convenient in practices. We extensively analyze the accuracy of survey results to justify that our method can protect the privacy yet maintain the utility of the investigation. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Despite the rapid progress of large language models (LLMs), their task performance remains sensitive to prompt design. Recent studies have explored leveraging the LLM itself as an optimizer to identify optimal prompts that maximize task accuracy. However, when evaluating prompts, such approaches heavily rely on elusive manually annotated gold labels to calculate task accuracy for each candidate prompt, which hinders its generality. To overcome the limitation, this work proposes GLaPE, a gold label-agnostic prompt evaluation method to alleviate dependence on gold labels. GLaPE is composed of two critical aspects: self-consistency evaluation of a single prompt and mutual-consistency refinement across multiple prompts. Experimental results on 8 widely-recognized reasoning tasks demonstrate that GLaPE can produce more effective prompts, achieving performance comparable to those derived from manually annotated gold labels. Analysis shows that GLaPE provides reliable evaluations aligned with accuracy, even in the absence of gold labels. —This paper introduces a novel approach for enabling real-time imitation of human head motion by a Nao robot, with a primary focus on elevating human-robot interactions. By using the robust capabilities of the MediaPipe as a computer vision library and the DeepFace as an emotion recognition library, this research endeavors to capture the subtleties of human head motion, including blink actions and emotional expressions, and seamlessly incorporate these indicators into the robot’s responses. The result is a comprehensive framework which facilitates precise head imitation within human-robot interactions, utilizing a closed-loop approach that involves gathering real-time feedback from the robot’s imitation performance. This feedback loop ensures a high degree of accuracy in modeling head motion, as evidenced by an impressive R2 score of 96.3 for pitch and 98.9 for yaw. Notably, the proposed approach holds promise in improving communication for children with autism, offering them a valuable tool for more effective interaction. In essence, proposed work explores the integration of real-time head imitation and real-time emotion recognition to enhance human-robot interactions, with potential benefits for individuals with unique communication needs. © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.

The self-assembled structure of various Brij series nonionic surfactants (such as Brij-30, Brij-52, Brij-56, Brij-58, Brij-35, and Brij-700) hybridized with room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) was studied using small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) measurements and DFT calculations. The detailed characterization of the obtained self-assembled structure in nonionic surfactant/RTILs hybrid system was carried out using the combination of SAXS and DFT calculations. The SAXS result indicates that the alkyl chain length dependence on the spatial correlation corresponds to the interference peak angle. The addition of Brij surfactant to the [BMIm][PF6] results in a drastic change in the interference peak position. The DFT calculation result shows that a weak hydrogen bonding was formed between the -CH, -F of RTILs ([BMIm][PF6] and [OMIm][PF6]) and the polar site -OH, -O - of surfactants (Brij-30 and Brij-56). When the mixing molar ratio of ILs/Brij is 1:1, the absolute value of interaction energy ( "E 0BSSE) is 8.10-1.43 and 4.22-0.90 kcal·mol-1 for ILs/Brij-30 and ILs/Brij-56, respectively. Meanwhile, in the case of the ILs/Brij molar ratio equal to 2:1, "E 0BSSE is 19.14-1.79 and 12.39-1.45 kcal·mol-1, respectively. It suggests that the stability of ILs/Brij hybridized system is higher for ILs/Brij-30 than for ILs/Brij56, and it has an increasing tendency to some extent with an increase of the molar fraction of ILs. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) is a series of clinical syndromes caused by obstruction of the hepatic vein and/or hepatic segment inferior vena cava,which can seriously damage the health of the body and lead to patient death[1].Over recent years,with the improvement of diagnostic technology,especially the introduction of multidisciplinary intervention methods,more and more potential cases have been discovered and treated[2].However,conventional clinical diagnosis is usually based on traditional indicators[3],and diagnostic criteria are largely dependent on the results of statistical analyses,often ignoring the importance of the association between different factors[4],especially high-risk factors,and the disease[5].Effectively capturing the critical factors that contribute to disease occurrence is the challenge for improving the predictive performance of BCS.

A Dual-Prompting for Interpretable Mental Health Language Models

Despite the increasing demand for AI-based mental health monitoring tools, their practical utility for clinicians is limited by the lack of interpretability. The CLPsych 2024 Shared Task1 aims to enhance the interpretability of Large Language Models (LLMs), particularly in mental health analysis, by providing evidence of suicidality through linguistic content. We propose a dual-prompting approach: (i) Knowledge-aware evidence extraction by leveraging the expert identity and a suicide dictionary with a mental health-specific LLM;and (ii) Evidence summarization by employing an LLM-based consistency evaluator. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of combining domain-specific information, revealing performance improvements and the approach’s potential to aid clinicians in assessing mental state progression. In this paper, we present the study of interactional arrangements that support the collaboration of headquarters (HQ), field responders, and a computational planning agent in a time-critical task setting created by a mixed-reality game. interactional arrangements define the extent to which control is distributed between the collaborative parties. We provide 2 field trials, one to study an "on-the-loop" arrangement in which HQ monitors and intervenes in agent instructions to field players on demand and the other, to study a version that places HQ more tightly "in-the-loop." The studies provide an understanding of the sociotechnical collaboration between players and the agent in these interactional arrangements by conducting interaction analysis of video recordings and game log data. The first field trial focuses on the collaboration of field responders with the planning agent. Findings highlight how players negotiate the agent guidance within the social interaction of the collocated teams. The second field trial focuses on the collaboration between the automated planning agent and the HQ. We find that the human coordinator and the agent can successfully work together in most cases, with human coordinators inspecting and "correcting" the agent-proposed plans. Through this field trial-driven development process, we generalise interaction design implications of automated planning agents around the themes of supporting common ground and mixed-initiative planning. © 2017 The Authors. With advancements in interactive technologies, research in human-food interaction (HFI) has begun to employ interactive sound to enrich the dining experience. However, chefs' creative use of this sonic interactivity as a new "ingredient"in their culinary practices remains underexplored. In response, we conducted an empirical study with six pairs of chefs and diners utilizing SoniCream, an ice cream cone that plays digital sounds while consuming. Through exploration, creation, collaboration, and reflection, we identified four themes concerning culinary creativity, dining experience, interactive sonic gastronomy deployment, and chef-diner interplay. Building on the discussions at the intersection of these themes, we derived four design implications for creating interactive systems that could support chefs' culinary creativity, thereby enriching dining experiences. Despite the considerable progress that has been made in cancer research, identifying cancer genes remains a significant challenge due to the intricate nature of the disease. Given the importance of incorporating gene interaction relationships in identifying potential cancer genes, Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have garnered increasing attention for their ability to model gene associations effectively. Particularly, recent studies have demonstrated the superiority of GNNs in deciphering the knowledge embedded in Protein-Protein interaction (PPI) networks for cancer gene prediction. However, these studies primarily focused on a single PPI network, overlooking the valuable insights encapsulated within other PPI networks. Additionally, previous endeavors often centered around pan-cancer datasets, neglecting the importance of predicting specific cancer genes. To address these limitations, we present a novel method called MPIT, which employs Graph Transformer Networks (GTNs) to identify specific cancer driver genes. MPIT effectively integrates data from diverse PPI and multi-omics data via the alignment and fusion of gene representations learned from different PPI networks. We collect three distinct cancer cell line datasets to assess the model performance. Our experimental findings demonstrate the superiority of MPIT over the existing methods, achieving the state-of-the-art performance across all three datasets.
