Due to the exceptional performance of Transform-ers in 2D medical image segmentation, recent work has also introduced them into 3D medical segmentation tasks. For instance, Swin UNETR and other hierarchical Transformers have reintroduced prior knowledge from several convolutional networks, further enhancing the volume segmentation capabilities of models. The efficacy of these hybrid methodologies is primarily attributed to the substantial quantity of parameters and the nonlocal self-attention mechanism with a large receptive field. We argue that the behavior of these methods' large receptive fields can be simulated by employing fewer parameters through the utilization of depth-wise convolutions with large kernel. Within this manuscript, we introduce a lightweight volume segmentation model called MedX-Net, which uses convolutional network modules to simulate hierarchical Transformers for robust volume segmentation. Firstly, inspired by the hierarchical Transformer module of Swin UNETR, we investigate large-kernel depth-wise convolutions with different sizes to achieve a reduced model parameter count while maintaining a large global receptive field. Secondly, we replace the multilayer perceptron (MLP) in the hierarchical Transformer module with Inverted Bottleneck with Depthwise Convolution Enhancement(DWCE) to improve model performance with fewer activation and normalization layers, further reducing the parameter count. We validate the effectiveness and efficiency of our model for volume segmentation on three public datasets: Synapse, BTCV and ACDC. On the Synapse dataset, compared to Swin UNETR, our model achieves an improvement from 83.48% to 87.21% in Dice score. Compared to the result of 86.57% achieved by nnFormer, our model achieves superior performance while reducing the model parameter count by 64%. © 2024 IEEE.

The images which are taken in foggy weather/bad weather are not expressed clearly therefore they are not very comprehensible. The images that are taken in that environment will be reduced in quality to a great degree, the reason is that because of the scattering of light in the atmosphere will reduce the clarity and visibility of a single image. Because of fog, the images are in low contrast whereas in case the haze in the atmosphere will affect the clearness and precision of the image. The pictures taken in this condition will not only affect the visibility but also complicate the post-processing of the image required for the implementation of numerous computer vision algorithms. Hence it is important to eliminate fog from the image So, firstly density of fog is estimated and based on that, image defogging can be done. © Grenze Scientific Society, 2023.

Variational Adapter: Improving CLIP in Data-Imbalanced Scenarios

In this paper, we propose the Prompt-based Variational Adapter (PVA), a novel approach designed to fine-tune the pre-trained Vision-Language Models (VLMs) in data-imbalanced scenarios. Unlike existing methods that focus primarily on pairwise alignment of visual-text relationships during fine-tuning, PVA relaxes pairwise explicit constrains and emphasizes the harmonization of visual and text modality distributions, enhancing generalization and cross-modal understanding. To realize this harmonization, we develop two variational adapters, which are appended separately to the visual and text encoders. These adapters transform the feature embeddings into latent spaces that implicitly align with the corresponding modality distributions. We then adopt a divide-and-conquer strategy, dividing classes into data-abundant and data-limited sets to reduce prediction bias. Within each set, we independently fine-tune the models by incorporating both the model's original general knowledge and specialized knowledge gained from training samples. Extensive experiments across two data-imbalanced scenarios validate the superiority of our approach, establishing a new state-of-the-art on popular benchmarks. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

In this paper, an improved super-resolution method is proposed for compressed videos, which integrates the multi-image super-resolution (MISR) method into standard video decoders such as H.26x and AV1 to employ the reference frame (RF) and motion vector (MV) information from video decoder to gain better super-resolution efficiency and performance. The proposed motion vector-based multi-image super-resolution (MVSR) is trained by the convolutional neural networks (CNN) model, which consists of a series of convolution layers and is learned to identify the relationship of image features between the ground truth high-resolution (HR) and super-resolution (SR), and generates the SR frames that could improve the quality of the final output frame. The experimental results have shown that the proposed MVSR is capable of enhancing the SR quality over 1dB in terms of peak-to-noise ratio (PSNR) when compared to other similar approaches. © 2023 IEEE.

Heart disease (HD) stands as a major global health challenge, being a predominant cause of death and demanding intricate and costly detection methods. The widespread impact of heart failure, contributing to increased rates of morbidity and mortality, underscores the urgency for accurate and timely prediction and diagnosis. This is crucial for effective prevention, early detection, and treatment, thereby reducing the threat to individual health. However, the early and precise prediction of HD remains a significant challenge. The complexity of medical data poses a considerable challenge for healthcare professionals, who are required to interpret and utilize this information swiftly for effective intervention. Addressing this gap, our study introduces a novel Improved Explainable Learning-Based Technique (IELBT) for HD prediction. This technique harnesses a strategic combination of feature selection, Venn diagrams, data normalization methods, optimized parameters, and machine learning algorithms, specifically tailored for predicting HD. We evaluated the performance of our model using the Alizadeh Sani HD dataset, aiming to accurately detect the presence or absence of the condition. Our results demonstrate that the IELBT, employing a support vector machine with a robust scaling approach, optimal parameterization, and a data split ratio of 70:30, achieves an impressive accuracy rate of 96.00%. Beyond achieving high accuracy, the IELBT outperforms similar models in existing literature and provides significant interpretability and explanation, essential elements in the field of medical diagnosis. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Emotion recognition is vital in the human computer interaction because it improves interaction. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved method for emotion recognition regarding the Hybrid Autoencoder-Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model and the newly developed hybrid approach of the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) for hyperparameters tuning. In this case, Autoencoder can reduce input data dimensionality for input data and find the features relevant for the model’s work. In addition, LSTM is able to work with temporal structures of sequential inputs like speech and videos. The contribution of this research lies in the novel combination method of ACO-WOA which aims at tweaking hyperparameters of Autoencoder-LSTM model. Global aspect of ACO and WOA thereby improve the search efficiency and the accuracy of the proposed emotion recognition system and its generalization capacity. In context with the benchmark dataset for the experimentations of emotion recognition, it has established the efficiency of the proposed model in terms of the conventional methods. Recall rates in recognitive intended various emotions and different modalities were also higher in the hybrid Autoencoder-LSTM model. The optimization algorithms like the ACO-WOA also supported in reducing the computational cost which arose due to hyperparameters tuning. The implementation of this paper is done through Python Software. This implementation shows a high accuracy of 94.12% and 95.94% for audio datasets and image datasets respectively when compared with other deep learning models of Conv LSTM and VGG16. Therefore, the research shows that the presented hybrid approach can be a useful solution for successfully employing emotion recognition for enhancing the creation of the empathetic AI systems and for improving user interactions within various fields including healthcare, entertainment, and customer support. © (2025), (science and information Organization). A novel coarse-grained knowledge graph embedding framework for platform risk identification from relational data

Platform risk identification from relational data aims to determine whether the target platforms are risky or not. However, in such a scenario, the relation data involve massive types of relations and numerous numerical-aware relations composed of attributes and infinite continuous values are challenges in this field. It is paramount to capture semantic information of relations and precise control power, drastically affecting the power of learning and the performance of identifying risky platforms. Recent financial risk studies often employed graph neural networks (GNNs) to model relational data, which fall short of capturing the intricacies of such complex relationships resulting in incorrect identification of platforms. To solve this problem, we propose a novel coarse-grained knowledge graph embedding (CKGE) framework that integrates coarse-grained knowledge graph construction and adopts five well-known knowledge graph embedding methods and ensemble learning. The extensive experimental results based on a real-world peer-to-peer lending platform dataset demonstrate that the CKGE framework achieves state of the art over GNNs for platform risk identification. Our study highlights the importance of utilizing the relational data of multi-type and multi-numerical relations for revealing platform risk situations and provides an alternative solution for identifying platform risk. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

OpenStack is a cloud platform that offers infrastructure services, providing access to computing, storage, and network resources. However, due to its open-source nature, the cloud environment can be vulnerable to security threats. OpenStack security measures are generally applied to specific services, rather than being integrated comprehensively across the entire cloud environment. Despite offering flexibility and scalability, the widespread use of OpenStack calls for robust security solutions. Current intrusion detection systems often struggle to adapt to constantly evolving traffic patterns and attack vectors in the OpenStack environment. This study introduces a two-stage deep learning framework to create a robust Intrusion Detection System (IDS) for OpenStack-based private clouds. The proposed framework efficiently analyzes network traffic data in these clouds by implementing dimensionality reduction and anomaly detection techniques. It utilizes a network-based IDS, trained on two publicly available datasets, which enables a broader detection range of known attack patterns. The results indicate that the OpenStack IDS significantly enhances OpenStack's security, addressing the limitations of generic IDS solutions. © 2024 IEEE.
