Accurate prediction of ligand-bound conformations in protein-ligand complexes only from ligand information is expected to be useful in drug design. In this study, we compared the conformations obtained by a conformational search algorithm and the geometry optimization based on quantum chemical calculations with the ligand-bound conformations obtained by the constrained geometry optimization. Conformational searches for ligands of 25 atoms or less in the Platinum Diverse Dataset were performed using the reservoir algorithm and MMFF94s force field. The geometries of the obtained conformations were optimized using quantum chemical calculations at the level of ωB97X-D/6-31+G (d,p). The ligand-bound conformations were obtained by the geometry optimization at ωB97X-D/6-31+G(d,p) with fixed dihedral angles. The environment around the ligand was considered by implicit solvation models, and better results were obtained when aqueous solvents were specified than in the case of no solvent effects or octanol solvent. The RMSD means of the most similar conformation and the ligand-bound conformation were 0.534, 0.449, and 0.427 Å for no solvent effect, octanol, and water, respectively. The result indicates the importance of incorporating the effect of the surrounding environment in the prediction of the ligand-bound conformation. © 2023 IEEE.

Flying ad hoc networks (FANETs) tackle diverse challenges, for example, dynamic topological structure, high mobility of nodes, low density, and energy restrictions. These challenges make problems in designing reliable and stable routing in FANETs. Hence, the design of a routing algorithm is essential for transferring data between drones. In this paper, an energy-aware routing scheme based on a virtual relay tunnel (EARVRT) is proposed in flying ad hoc networks. EARVRT includes a virtual relay tunnel (VRT) that manages relay nodes in the route discovery process and lowers network overhead. Moreover, three metrics, namely route energy, hop counts, and a new metric called path correlation are regarded in the path selection operation. Note that correlation is defined with regard to two scales, including the cosine similarity of two nodes and their distance. EARVRT is evaluated according to delay, network longevity, consumed energy, and packet delivery rate. Then, our scheme is compared with three methods, namely LoCaL, O-LAR, and PSO-GLFR. These results show the superiority and success of EARVRT in comparison with other algorithms. © 2024 The Author(s)

Hybrid intelligence has emerged as an innovative approach that synergistically combines the strengths of human intelligence and artificial intelligence (AI) to address complex problems. In this paradigm, knowledge graphs play a pivotal role by supplying vital background information and contextual understanding to hybrid intelligence systems. However, due to limitations in local storage capacity, managing large-scale graph data often requires outsourcing to cloud servers. Nevertheless, the use of untrusted cloud servers poses a risk of potential user data leaks. To address these concerns, this paper presents an encryption scheme specifically designed to protect graph data, enabling queries involving intermediate nodes in the shortest path between two nodes within the graph. The proposed scheme ensures the privacy and security of outsourced data by employing a novel method that utilizes padding dictionary structure encryption. This method ensures strict limitations on the cloud server's capabilities, restricting it solely to query operations, it effectively prevents any compromise of user data or unauthorized access to sensitive information, users can securely store and process their graph data on servers, significantly reducing the potential risk of data leakage and unauthorized breaches. To validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed solution, practical experiments were conducted using real-world data. © 2023 IEEE.

The development of indoor positioning systems is possible thanks to the availability of wireless network infrastructure. Thus, a wireless provider can determine an accurate indoor position taking into account the existing Wifi infrastructure in buildings, malls, or offices. In this work, we develop a system for indoor positioning with the use of several libraries of OpenWRT running on three access points in an office of the CTI building. We develop a server application to retrieve the performance metrics of the WiFi signal from three wireless routers of the study area and load this information to a database. Thus, this application uses the signal strength measured and stored in the database to determine the distance between the mobile devices and each access point. Then, the position of the mobile devices is estimated by averaging the estimation of three Min-Max algorithms and updated in the database. Finally, we also implemented a mobile application that shows on a map the mobile devices position in real time and the position of mobile devices in their proximity. The results show that the mobile devices locations present an average margin error of position equal to 2.43 meters enabling the development of indoor positioning applications using the existing infrastructure of the wireless networks. © 2023 IEEE.

Detection of Perfect Stealthy Attacks on Cyber-Physical Systems Subject to Measurement Quantizations: A Watermark-Based Strategy

In this paper, the attack detection problem is investigated for a class of closed-loop systems subjected to unknownbutbounded noises in the presence of stealthy attacks. The measurement outputs from the sensors are quantized before transmission.A specific type of perfect stealthy attack, which meets certain rather stringent conditions, is taken into account. Such attacks could be injected by adversaries into both the sensor-toestimator and controller-to-actuator channels, with the aim of disrupting the normal data flow. For the purpose of defending against these perfect stealthy attacks, a novel scheme based on watermarks is developed. This scheme includes the injection of watermarks(applied to data prior to quantization) and the recovery of data(implemented before the data reaches the estimator).The watermark-based scheme is designed to be both timevarying and hidden from adversaries through incorporating a time-varying and bounded watermark signal. Subsequently, a watermark-based attack detection strategy is proposed which thoroughly considers the characteristics of perfect stealthy attacks,thereby ensuring that an alarm is activated upon the occurrence of such attacks. An example is provided to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed mechanism for detecting attacks.

This paper proposes a new state transfer method for geographic state machine replication (SMR) that dynamically allocates the state to be transferred among replicas according to changes in communication bandwidths. SMR improves fault tolerance by replicating a service to multiple replicas. When a replica is newly added or recovered from a failure, the other replicas transfer the current state of the service to it. However, in geographic SMR, the communication bandwidths of replicas are different and constantly changing. Therefore, existing state transfer methods cannot fully utilize the available bandwidth, and their state transfer time increases. To overcome this problem, our method divides the state into multiple chunks and assigns them to replicas based on each replica's bandwidth so that the broader a replica's bandwidth is, the more chunks it transfers. The proposed method also updates the chunk assignment of each replica dynamically based on the currently estimated bandwidth. The performance evaluation on Amazon EC2 shows that the proposed method reduces the state transfer time by up to 47% compared to the existing one. In addition, we apply the proposed method to dynamic replacement of replicas, which can mitigate latency degradation caused by network trouble, and evaluate how fast the method can relocate a replica. © 2022 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Nowadays, Artificial Intelligence is growing in many daily activities. On the one hand, it has many positive effects and produces social benefits. On the other hand, its development and deployment raise issues related to biases, such as gender, disability, and culture. Moreover, Artificial Intelligence's growing autonomy in decision-making could lead to decisions that conflict with human values or harm individuals and society. These issues stem from biased or incomplete datasets and a lack of transparency and accountability in the algorithms. Consequently, paying increasing attention to the ongoing discourse on Artificial Intelligence ethics: its autonomy in decision-making, and biases is necessary. A human-centric approach is a minimum requirement for designing algorithms since this approach is aligned with human values, dignity, and goals. Notwithstanding, its application does not guarantee a deep understanding of the context of use. According to recent theoretical perspectives, a deep interpretation of the context of use (i.e., a holistic perspective) could better regulate ethical aspects. This paper goes in this direction, presenting a human-centric and ecological approach as a design methodology. It has been experienced within Use Case 6 of the European FRACTAL project, which aims to develop intelligent totems for advertising and customer assistance in sentient shopping malls. The intelligence is realized by several artificial intelligent algorithms (e.g., gender recognition algorithms). By adopting Bronfenbrenner's ecological approach, algorithms were made free from gender bias, mirroring the context of men's and women's use at shopping malls as it is currently, i.e., characterized by gender balance. This proposal contributes to the ongoing discourse on Artificial Intelligence ethics and the development of its ethical algorithms. © 2023 ACM.
