Image restoration with regularization models is very popular in the image processing literature. Total variation (TV) is one of the important edge preserving regularization models used, however, to obtain optimal restoration results the regularization parameter needs to be set appropriately. We propose here a new parameter estimation approach for total variation based image restoration. By utilizing known noise levels we compute the regularization parameter by reducing the similarity between residual and noise variances. We use the split Bregman algorithm for the total variation along with this automatic parameter estimation step to obtain a very fast restoration scheme. Experimental results indicate the proposed parameter estimation obtained better denoised images and videos in terms of PSNR and SSIM measures and the computational overload is less compared with other approaches. © Authors 2021. In this paper, a 100x100 CMOS Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) array designed for quantum imaging applications requiring synchronization with an external unpredictable and aperiodic trigger is presented. The targeted application takes advantage of non-classical quantum states of light to achieve quantum ghost imaging in the middle-infrared (MIR) up to 7 $\mu \mathrm{m}$ wavelength by detecting the corresponding entangled photons in the visible spectrum with the SPAD imager. For this purpose, a SPAD array with in-pixel backward-looking temporal correlation capabilities has been implemented to spatially resolve the entangled photons in a ghost imaging setup. The correlation is performed through a pixel-wise asynchronous delayed time window, whose width can be tuned to maximize the correlation efficiency. Two pixel variants, without and with resource sharing, have been designed: the resulting imager has been implemented in a 110 nm CIS FSI technology, achieving a correlation window width between 2 ns and 27 ns and a delay range between 5 ns and 40 ns, with 17 $\mu \mathrm{m}$ pixel pitch and fill-factor of 19.3% and 31.3%. A smart readout architecture has been implemented to improve the acquisition duty cycle, given the expected sparsity of the detected events.

The history of the use of mines dates back almost two centuries. The geography of their use and the associated social harm have made them, without exaggeration, a global problem. At the same time, searches were underway for safe methods of their neutralization using various technical means. In so doing, until now, none of the existing methods provides a 100% guarantee of cleaning the territory, which determines the purpose of finding innovative methods and the possibility of combining them with existing ones. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are becoming a real modern breakthrough in the field of intellectual achievements. Obtaining optimal results when solving a wide range of different problems, together with the development of composite materials, software, and the latest navigation equipment, make the tasks assigned to them and the expected results more and more difficult. UAVs allow people not to be in life-threatening conditions, to conduct activities beyond their physiological and psychophysiological abilities. The combination of the ability to collect spatial data during flight in various ranges of remote sensing with the possibility of carrying variants of useful equipment opens up prospects for their use in the field of demining territories. Supplementing UAV technologies with modern information systems for processing and analysis of information (expert systems, machine learning, computational intelligence, distributed artificial intelligence, neural networks, etc.), including spatial (GIS), opens up great prospects in the field of humanitarian demining of territories. © 2024, The Authors. SEOFP-NET: Compression and acceleration of deep neural networks for speech enhancement using sign-exponent-only floating-points

Numerous compression and acceleration strategies have achieved outstanding results on classification tasks in various fields, such as computer vision and speech signal processing. Nevertheless, the same strategies have yielded ungratified performance on regression tasks because the nature between these and classification tasks differs. In this paper, a novel sign-exponent-only floating-point network (SEOFP-NET) technique is proposed to compress the model size and accelerate the inference time for speech enhancement, a regression task of speech signal processing. The proposed method compressed the sizes of deep neural network (DNN)-based speech enhancement models by quantizing the fraction bits of single-precision floating-point parameters during training. Before inference implementation, all parameters in the trained SEOFP-NET model are slightly adjusted to accelerate the inference time by replacing the floating-point multiplier with an integer-adder. For generalization, the SEOFP-NET technique is introduced to different speech enhancement tasks in speech signal processing with different model architectures under various corpora. The experimental results indicate that the size of SEOFP-NET models can be significantly compressed by up to 81.249% without noticeably downgrading their speech enhancement performance, and the inference time can be accelerated to 1.212× compared with the baseline models. The results also verify that the proposed SEOFP-NET can cooperate with other efficiency strategies to achieve a synergy effect for model compression. In addition, the just noticeable difference (JND) was applied to the user study experiment to statistically analyze the effect of speech enhancement on listening. The results indicate that the listeners cannot facilely differentiate between the enhanced speech signals processed by the baseline model and the proposed SEOFP-NET. N4-methylcytosine (4mC) is a modified form of cytosine found in DNA, contributing to epigenetic regulation. It exists in various genomes, including the Rosaceae family encompassing significant fruit crops like apples, cherries, and roses. Previous investigations have examined the distribution and functional implications of 4mC sites within the Rosaceae genome, focusing on their potential roles in gene expression regulation, environmental adaptation, and evolution. This research aims to improve the accuracy of predicting 4mC sites within the genome of Fragaria vesca, a Rosaceae plant species. Building upon the original 4mc-w2vec method, which combines word embedding processing and a convolutional neural network (CNN), we have incorporated additional feature encoding techniques and leveraged pre-trained natural language processing (NLP) models with different deep learning architectures including different forms of CNN, recurrent neural networks (RNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM). Our assessments have shown that the best model is derived from a CNN model using fastText encoding. This model demonstrates enhanced performance, achieving a sensitivity of 0.909, specificity of 0.77, and accuracy of 0.879 on an independent dataset. Furthermore, our model surpasses previously published works on the same dataset, thus showcasing its superior predictive capabilities. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

PCB routing becomes time-consuming as the complexity of PCB design increases. Unlike traditional schemes that treat the two essential PCB routing processes separately, namely, escape and bus routing, we consider the continuity between them and present a golden-pin-based routing scheme to find the desired solution with angle and topology constraints. Further, conventional rip-up and reroute methods are often ineffective and inefficient for congestion alleviation and routability optimization. We construct a component graph by modeling components as vertices and applying the minimum weight vertex covering method to improve the routability. A self-adaptable ordering method is presented for escape routing to arrange the pin order on the component boundary, guaranteeing successful bus routing. In addition, escape routing is performed based on a disjoint path method. We construct a dynamic Hanan grid in bus routing and utilize a novel congestion adjustment technique to improve solution quality. Compared with FreeRouting and Allegro, the experiment results show that our algorithm achieves high routability and a significant 90% runtime reduction.

Quantum error correction (QEC) codes are necessary to fault-tolerantly operate quantum computers. However, every such code is inherently limited by its inability to detect logical errors. Here, we propose and implement a method that leverages dynamical decoupling (DD) to drastically suppress logical errors. The key to achieving this is to use the logical operators of the QEC code as DD pulses, which we refer to as logical dynamical decoupling (LDD). The resulting hybrid QEC-LDD strategy is in principle capable of handling arbitrary weight errors. We test QEC-LDD using IBM transmon devices and the [[4, 2, 2]] code, demonstrating performance that significantly exceeds the capabilities of using either this code or DD in isolation. We present a method that allows for the detection of logical errors affecting logically encoded Bell states, which, in this case, arise primarily from crosstalk among physical qubits. Outcome-Oriented Prescriptive Process Monitoring Based on Temporal Logic Patterns

Background – Prescriptive Process Monitoring systems aim at recommending, during the execution of a business process, interventions that, if followed, prevent poor performance of the process. Such interventions have to be i) reliable: they have to guarantee the achievement of the desired outcome or performance and ii) flexible: they cannot overturn the normal process execution. Problem – Most of the Prescriptive Process Monitoring solutions perform well in terms of recommendation reliability but provide the users with recommendations expressed in terms of specific activities that have to be executed without caring about their feasibility. Method – We propose a new Outcome-Oriented Prescriptive Process Monitoring system recommending temporal relations among activities that have to be guaranteed during the process execution. The proposed system is based on a Machine Learning model that learns the correlations between temporal relations among activities and the (positive) outcome of the process. Then, given the prefix of an ongoing process, the model is queried to return the most promising recommendations. Contribution – The main contribution is that the proposed system softens the mandatory execution of an activity at a given point in time, thus leaving more freedom to the user in deciding the interventions to put in place. This is achieved by providing recommendations that are expressed as Linear Temporal Logic formulas over activities. Results – The proposed system has been widely assessed using a pool of 22 real-life datasets. The results demonstrate the reliability of the provided recommendations by achieving an F1 score higher than 90% on 18 datasets out of 22. © 2022, CC BY-NC-ND.

Vehicular Ad-hoc networks (VANETs) technology has recently emerged, and gaining significant attention from the research because it is promising technologies related to Intelligent Transportation System (ITSs) and smart cities. Wireless vehicular communication is employed to improve traffic safety and to reduce traffic congestion. Each vehicle in the ad-hoc network achieves as a smart mobile node categorized by high mobility and forming of dynamic networks. As a result of the movement of vehicles in a continuous way, VANETs are vulnerable to many security threats so it requisites capable and secure communication. Unfortunately, Ad hoc networks are liable to varied attacks like Block Hole attacks and Grey Hole attacks, Denial of service attacks, etc. Among the most known attacks are the Black Hole attacks while the malicious vehicle is able to intercept the data and drops it without forwarding it to the cars. The main goal of our simulation is to analyze the performance impact of black hole attack in real time vehicular traffic in the Greater Detroit Area using NS-2 and SUMO (Simulation of Urban). The simulation will be with AODV protocol.
