Today, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are very popular in military and commercial applications as well as academic research. Flying ad hoc network (FANET) is a new type of ad hoc network that organizes small drones in an ad hoc form. The movement in 3D space, high mobility, frequent topological changes, restricted resources, and low density are the features of these networks. These features cause serious challenges in designing an appropriate routing approach for these networks. In this paper, a greedy perimeter stateless routing method based on a position prediction mechanism called GPSR+ is proposed for FANETs. This scheme employs a position forecast strategy to approximate the future position of UAVs and modifies the propagation period of hello messages based on this strategy to achieve better adaptability to the dynamic network. In addition, GPSR+ chooses a set of candidate UAVs using a new method called the spherical removal technique to decide on the next-hop UAVs in the routing process. Finally, the most stable UAV toward the destination will be chosen from the candidate set to act as the next-hop. The simulation results show that GPSR+ grows the packet delivery ratio in FANET and extends network longevity because it increases path stability and improves energy consumption. However, the delay in GPSR+ is high. © 2023 The Author(s)

Internet of Things (IoT) has made it possible to diagnose and treat patients remotely, as well as to expedite the transportation of essential drugs and medical equipment to locations that are geographically separated. This has occurred at a time when society has become more socially distant. During the Ebola and COVID-19 outbreaks, the Internet of Things (IoT) technology was put to use in remote patient monitoring and the management of the vaccine cold chain. Concurrently, this study reflects on the variables that are required for IoT to scale. Since December 2019, the COVID-19 outbreak on a worldwide scale has developed into a significant problem. In order for medical treatment to be successful, it is essential to make a prompt and accurate diagnosis of persons who may be infected with the COVID-19 virus. In order to put a halt to the spread of COVID-19, it is important to construct an automated system that is based on deep transfer learning and is capable of detecting the virus based on chest X-rays. The authors of this study present an internet-of-things (IoT) system that makes use of ensemble deep transfer learning to diagnose COVID-19 patients at an earlier stage. It is feasible to keep an eye on potentially hazardous COVID-19 incidents as they occur so long as suitable procedures are adhered to. Inceptions A variety of different deep learning models are included into the framework that has been proposed for the Internet of Things. According to the findings of the study, the method that was suggested assisted radiologists in accurately and quickly identifying patients who could have COVID-19. The proposed effort focuses on developing an effective identification system based on the COVID-19 standard for use in an IoT setting.

In the application of deep learning on optical coherence tomography (OCT) data, it is common to train classification networks using 2D images originating from volumetric data. Given the micrometer resolution of OCT systems, consecutive images are often very similar in both visible structures and noise. Thus, an inappropriate data split can result in overlap between the training and testing sets, with a large portion of the literature overlooking this aspect. In this study, the effect of improper dataset splitting on model evaluation is demonstrated for three classification tasks using three OCT open-access datasets extensively used, Kermany's and Srinivasan's ophthalmology datasets, and AIIMS breast tissue dataset. Results show that the classification performance is inflated by 0.07 up to 0.43 in terms of Matthews Correlation Coefficient (accuracy: 5% to 30%) for models tested on datasets with improper splitting, highlighting the considerable effect of dataset handling on model evaluation. This study intends to raise awareness on the importance of dataset splitting given the increased research interest in implementing deep learning on OCT data. © 2022, CC BY.

Contract-based design is a compositional approach that enables to satisfy specifications for complex systems by partitioning responsibilities among the constituent subsystems. A natural application of assume-guarantee reasoning arises in the context of biological systems, which are composed of different modules, each responsible for particular actions. This work presents an application of the assume-guarantee contracts theory to the glucose regulation system, a topic of major importance in diabetes treatment, in the context of the so-called Artificial Pancreas. The glucose control problem is defined and solved in a decentralized way by defining suitable contracts to be satisfied by the glucose and insulin subsystems, while the framework naturally takes into account sampling and quantization arising from the digital environment. The results show that the approach is feasible and promising for further investigation. © 2020 IEEE.

A tandem repeat is an occurrence of two adjacent identical substrings. In this paper, we introduce the notion of a double string, which consists of two parallel strings, and we study the problem of locating all tandem repeats in a double string. The problem introduced here has applications beyond actual double strings, as we illustrate by solving two different problems with the algorithm of the double string tandem repeats problem. The first problem is that of finding all corner-sharing tandems in a 2-dimensional text, defined by Apostolico and Brimkov. The second problem is that of finding all scaled tandem repeats in a 1d text, where a scaled tandem repeat is defined as a string UU0 such that U0 is discrete scale of U. In addition to the algorithms for exact tandem repeats, we also present algorithms that solve the problem in the inexact sense, allowing up to k mismatches. As a superior multicarrier technique utilizing chirp signals for high-mobility communications, affine frequency division multiplexing (AFDM) is envisioned to be a promising candidate for sixth-generation (6G) wireless networks. AFDM is based on the discrete affine Fourier transform (DAFT) with two adjustable parameters of the chirp signals, termed the pre-chirp and post-chirp parameters, respectively. Whilst the post-chirp parameter complies with stringent constraints to combat the time-frequency doubly selective channel fading, we show that the pre-chirp counterpart can be flexibly manipulated for an additional degree of freedom. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel AFDM scheme with the pre-chirp index modulation (PIM) philosophy (AFDM-PIM), which can implicitly convey extra information bits through dynamic pre-chirp parameter assignment, thus enhancing both spectral and energy efficiency. Specifically, we first demonstrate that the subcarrier orthogonality is still maintained by applying distinct pre-chirp parameters to various subcarriers in the AFDM modulation process. Inspired by this property, we allow each AFDM subcarrier to carry a unique pre-chirp signal according to the incoming bits. By such an arrangement, extra bits can be embedded into the index patterns of pre-chirp parameter assignment without additional energy consumption. We derive asymptotically tight upper bounds on the average bit error probability (BEP) of the proposed schemes with the maximum-likelihood detection, and validate that the proposed AFDM-PIM can achieve full diversity under doubly dispersive channels. Based on the derived result, we further propose an optimal pre-chirp alphabet design to enhance the bit error rate (BER) performance via intelligent optimization algorithms. State Key Laboratory of information Security, Institute of information engineering, Chinese Academy of sciences, China Underwater images suffer from color casts and low contrast due to wavelength- A nd distance-dependent attenuation and scattering. To solve these two degradation issues, we present an underwater image enhancement network via medium transmission-guided multi-color space embedding, called Ucolor. Concretely, we first propose a multi-color space encoder network, which enriches the diversity of feature representations by incorporating the characteristics of different color spaces into a unified structure. Coupled with an attention mechanism, the most discriminative features extracted from multiple color spaces are adaptively integrated and highlighted. Inspired by underwater imaging physical models, we design a medium transmission (indicating the percentage of the scene radiance reaching the camera)-guided decoder network to enhance the response of network towards quality-degraded regions. As a result, our network can effectively improve the visual quality of underwater images by exploiting multiple color spaces embedding and the advantages of both physical model-based and learning-based methods. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our Ucolor achieves superior performance against state-of-the-art methods in terms of both visual quality and quantitative metrics.
