Depressive Disorders (DD) is one of the most prevalent mental disorders in the world that may lead to suicide cases. To prevent the latter, ubiquitous early detection systems may be effective. Recent studies have since researched the development of such systems by exploiting several forms of data, including video, audio, Ecological Momentary Assessments (EMA), and passive sensing data using sensors embedded in mobile devices. To summarize the trends, opportunities, and existing challenges in this field, this study reviewed 15 papers to answer four research questions. EMA was the most popular data to be used in this task, but other approaches, such as using video, audio, and typing behaviors, may be considered due to the subjectivity of EMA. These data were typically recorded using smartphones and analyzed using Machine Learning (ML). However, most of the developed systems had yet to be implemented. Overall, it was concluded that further studies may need to explore usages of more objective data in multimodal approaches as well as consider using Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) to deploy these systems to provide more effective and efficient diagnoses. Future studies must also take into account the existing challenges of the data and infrastructures, such as the weaknesses of several data types, limitations of mobile devices, as well as the challenges of diagnosis approaches. © 2023 IEEE.

Anomalous Sound Detection Using Time-Frequency Feature and Mixbatch

The sound emitted by machines under abnormal working conditions exhibits various frequency patterns. Currently, the most advanced anomalous sound detection (ASD) approach is to apply a multi-head self-attention mechanism to the Log-Mel spectrogram for automatic frequency pattern analysis. However, the Log-Mel spectrogram may filter out high-frequency components of abnormal sounds;thus the use of self-attention mechanisms on Log-Mel spectrogram seems to have certain limitations. In this paper, we construct a simple convolutional neural network to extract comprehensive frequency features from raw audio to complement spectral-temporal information fusion. The parameters of this neural network are continuously updated during the training process to extract better frequency features for downstream classification neural networks in ASD. Additionally, a method for data augmentation in the batch dimension was developed to help the classification model learn both types of comprehensive features simultaneously. The proposed method achieved an AUC of 94.13% and a pAUC of 89.09% on the DCASE 2020 Challenge Task 2 dataset. Even when using only the features proposed in this paper, an AUC of 84.62% was achieved. Smoking is a major cause of cancer,heart disease and other afflictions that lead to early *** effective smoking classification mechanism that provides insights into individual smoking habits would assist in implementing addiction treatment *** activities often accompany other activities such as drinking or ***,smoking activity recognition can be a challenging topic in human activity recognition(HAR).A deep learning framework for smoking activity recognition(SAR)employing smartwatch sensors was proposed together with a deep residual network combined with squeeze-and-excitation modules(ResNetSE)to increase the effectiveness of the SAR *** proposed model was tested against basic convolutional neural networks(CNNs)and recurrent neural networks(LSTM,BiLSTM,GRU and BiGRU)to recognize smoking and other similar activities such as drinking,eating and walking using the UT-Smoke *** different scenarios were investigated for their recognition performances using standard HAR metrics(accuracy,F1-score and the area under the ROC curve).Our proposed ResNetSE outperformed the other basic deep learning networks,with maximum accuracy of 98.63%.

Falls are the contributing factor to both fatal and nonfatal injuries in the ***,pre-impact fall detection,which identifies a fall before the body collides with the floor,would be ***,researchers have turned their attention from post-impact fall detection to pre-impact fall ***-impact fall detection solutions typically use either a threshold-based or machine learning-based approach,although the threshold value would be difficult to accu-rately determine in threshold-based ***,while additional features could sometimes assist in categorizing falls and non-falls more precisely,the esti-mated determination of the significant features would be too time-intensive,thus using a significant portion of the algorithm’s operating *** this work,we developed a deep residual network with aggregation transformation called FDSNeXt for a pre-impact fall detection approach employing wearable inertial *** proposed network was introduced to address the limitations of fea-ture extraction,threshold definition,and algorithm *** training on a large-scale motion dataset,the KFall dataset,and straightforward evaluation with standard metrics,the proposed approach identified pre-impact and impact falls with high accuracy of 91.87 and 92.52%,*** addition,we have inves-tigated fall detection’s performances of three state-of-the-art deep learning models such as a convolutional neural network(CNN),a long short-term memory neural network(LSTM),and a hybrid model(CNN-LSTM).The experimental results showed that the proposed FDSNeXt model outperformed these deep learning models(CNN,LSTM,and CNN-LSTM)with significant improvements.

The accuracy and reliability of automatic speaker verification (ASV) face significant challenges in noisy environments. In recent years, joint training of speech enhancement front-end and ASV back-end has been widely applied to improve the robustness of ASV systems. Traditional joint training directly uses the enhanced speech features as the input of the back-end. However, the diversity of noise types and noise intensities will excessively suppress the enhanced features, resulting in speech distortion or residual noise. To alleviate this problem, we propose a dual-path spectrogram refinement network that enables the enhanced features to learn supplementary information from the separated noise features. In addition, we incorporate coordinate attention into the overall joint architecture to capture more comprehensive frequency and temporal information of the speaker from different spatial positions. We conduct extensive experiments on the VoxCeleb1 test set, the out-of-domain noise test set, and the VOiCES corpus. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method significantly improves the accuracy and robustness of speaker verification systems in both clean and noisy environments. This paper proposes a particle swarm optimization (PSO)-based computational intelligence (CI) agent with learning tools for young students’ experience and learning CI application. The CI agent combines human languages that inspire fuzzy systems with machine languages based on PSO. CI, including fuzzy systems (FSs), evolutionary computation (EC), and neural networks (NNs), is an imperative branch of artificial intelligence (AI). As a core technology of AI, it plays a vital role in developing intelligent systems and agents. During the CI Sandbox Workshop and Competition at IEEE CEC 2023 in the USA and FUZZ-IEEE 2023 in Korea, we organized a workshop with an associated competition for young students to learn and experience CI using the CI&AI-FML learning tool with a PSO-based CI agent. First, young students receive learning materials and guidance from tutors to learn about CI-related basic concepts. Then, they are enabled to test the learned materials with the CI learning tool in a simple real-world application. Three experiments, including an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) at IEEE CEC 2023, an intelligent agriculture system (IAS) as well as a smart greenhouse system (SGS) at FUZZ-IEEE 2023 were conducted in these two CI sandboxes to real-time collect data from the sensors of the CI&AI-FML learning tool and send them to the PSO-based CI agent to make inferences. Finally, the learning tool activates according to the inferred result of the CI agent for young students’ experience in real-world applications. In the future, we will extend the PSO-based CI agent with Quantum Computational Intelligence (QCI) to more countries for young students co-learning CI with smart machines. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

We present GauKGT5, a sequence-to-sequence model proposed for knowledge graph completion (KGC). Our research extends the KGT5 model, a recent sequence-to-sequence link prediction (LP) model. GauKGT5 takes advantage of textual characteristics inherent in the knowledge graph, exhibiting a small model size. However, KGT5's proficiency in link prediction necessitates the ensemble with a knowledge graph embedding model, which itself poses challenges due to its substantial size and expense. By integrating the Gated Attention Unit into the KGT5 model and directly applying it to the encoder-decoder structure, we achieve improved contextual dependency capturing within the sequence, resulting in enhanced prediction accuracy, accelerated training speed, and enhanced computational efficiency. At the same time, we introduce parallel computing as a means to enhance the efficiency of model training and inference within the XPU distributed computing environment. © 2023 IEEE.

Fuzzy utility mining considers high-utility fuzzy itemsets as valuable knowledge by integrating quantities of items, their profits, and meaningful fuzzy terms derived by quantities according to membership functions. In fuzzy utility mining, the utility value of a fuzzy itemset in a transaction will always be greater than or equal to those of its subsets, so the measurement of fuzzy utility is an unfair evaluation method. Therefore, the fuzzy average-utility mining problem was issued in 2020, and three solutions were proposed to solve fuzzy average-utility itemsets as two-phase fuzzy average-utility algorithm (TPFAU), two-phase method with tree-based structure (HFAUIM) and one-phase approach with tree-based structure (FHFAUIM), respectively. The second and third methods decrease the candidates generated compared to the first. However, the sorting strategy for mining steps for the last two approaches is based on the frequencies of items in a database and then inserting items of a transaction into a tree in descending order of their frequencies, thus spending more computing time on deriving the actual fuzzy utility value of itemsets. To overcome the above-mentioned problem, this paper adopts a different sorting strategy with a tree-based structure and then by using it to design an algorithm named IFHFAUIM to mine high fuzzy average-utility itemsets. It reduces the storage of required fuzzy utility values in tree nodes and recovers them through tree traversal. Computational experiments show that the proposed method could make a good trade-off between execution time and memory usage. © 2023 IEEE.

Estimating high-dimensional covariance matrices is crucial in various domains. This work considers a scenario where two collaborating agents access disjoint dimensions of m samples from a high-dimensional random vector, and they can only communicate a limited number of bits to a central server, which wants to accurately approximate the covariance matrix. We analyze the fundamental trade-off between communication cost, number of samples, and estimation accuracy. We prove a lower bound on the error achievable by any estimator, highlighting the impact of dimensions, number of samples, and communication budget. Furthermore, we present an algorithm that achieves this lower bound up to a logarithmic factor, demonstrating its near-optimality in practical settings. Copyright 2024 by the author(s)
