Active power dispatch of wind farms plays an important role in power grid scheduling. In this paper, a data-driven active power dispatch strategy for wind farms is proposed, which uses the key point of minimizing the standard deviation of wind turbines' output power series to reduce their fluctuations. First, to build the optimization problem, the historical active power output data of each wind turbine is collected from the Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Then, the objective function is developed based on the idea of minimizing the standard deviation of the output power time series. Meanwhile, considering the constraints of wind turbines' output power and active power balance of the grid, the feasible domain of the cost function is constructed. Further, to solve the proposed nonlinear optimization problem with equality and inequality constraints, the trust region interior point method (TRIPM) is employed to explore optimal solution within the feasible domain. Finally, actual data collected from wind farms is used to test effectiveness of the designed approach and experimental results show that our method can achieve better output power smoothing performance than conventional Proportional Dispatch (PD) method. © 2024 IEEE.

Blockchain technology has garnered increasing attention from researchers. Because blockchain systems may contain malicious or spatially limited nodes that may delay block verification and reduce block transmission rate, this work proposes a block transmission model by designing and using special clusters. This work proposes the cluster formation and selection mechanisms. Nodes are grouped into clusters in a blockchain, and clusters with high fitness values are chosen to transmit blocks by calculating their trust values and block transmission rates. The proposed method is compared with the peers: Layer-Chain, BlockP2P-EP and RNS. According to experimental findings, the proposed method is superior to its peers regarding the time needed for block synchronization and transmission, block occupation storage ratio, transaction throughput, and block transmission success ratio. © 2024 IEEE.

Spiking neural networks (SNNs) have gained sig-nificant attention as a promising framework in computational neuroscience and artificial intelligence, offering benefits such as low energy consumption and minimal memory requirements. Despite these advantages, their practical deployment is hindered by several challenges, particularly in performance optimization. This paper introduces a novel methodology to enhance the performance of SNNs in image processing by leveraging a bit-plane-based coding scheme. The proposed approach is specifically designed to improve the accuracy of SNNs without increasing their model size. Comprehensive experimental evaluations demonstrate the efficacy of this coding strategy across multiple datasets. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first to explore the application of bit-plane representation in the context of SNNs.

A significant proportion of web elements might manifest identical behaviors and functionalities, further complicating the test case creation process. We have noted that elements demonstrating congruent behavior and functionality frequently exhibit visual resemblances within the web page interface. In this paper, we propose a machine learning-based method to identify visually similar web elements. These identified elements can be brought to the attention of the tester. If the tester determines that these elements exhibit similar behavior, they can be visually marked on the web page, facilitating focused test case creation. A case study demonstrates its potential to make accurate judgments on several complex webpages.

Applications that support multimedia data such as medical pictures and videos, video broadcasting, and secure video conferencing consume vast quantities of information that require large numbers of servers to provide services for the many client users who access them. Cloud-based sensitive data becomes increasingly important for the respective users to be kept confidential without infringing confidentiality, integrity, and availability. We propose a framework based on the OpenStack cloud-computing platform for multimedia data security. A prototype framework with a helper tool EncSwift is implemented, which allows stringent data access control and applying the data-at-rest Over-Encryption approach. The implementation is evaluated for computation of cryptography operations, cost of communications, and update policy consequences for the framework. With OpenStack Swift’s open source and modular design, our multimedia data management and management framework is well suited to protecting and managing clouds’ multimedia with low computational costs as shown in the experimental results. © 2023 IEEE.

To enable wireless federated learning (FL) in communication resource-constrained networks, two communication schemes, i.e., digital and analog ones, are effective solutions. In this paper, we quantitatively compare these two techniques, highlighting their essential differences as well as respectively suitable scenarios. We first examine both digital and analog transmission schemes, together with a unified and fair comparison framework under imbalanced device sampling, strict latency targets, and transmit power constraints. A universal convergence analysis under various imperfections is established for evaluating the performance of FL over wireless networks. These analytical results reveal that the fundamental difference between the digital and analog communications lies in whether communication and computation are jointly designed or not. The digital scheme decouples the communication design from FL computing tasks, making it difficult to support uplink transmission from massive devices with limited bandwidth and hence the performance is mainly communication-limited. In contrast, the analog communication allows over-the-air computation (AirComp) and achieves better spectrum utilization. However, the computation-oriented analog transmission reduces power efficiency, and its performance is sensitive to computation errors from imperfect channel state information (CSI). Furthermore, device sampling for both schemes are optimized and differences in sampling optimization are analyzed. Numerical results verify the theoretical analysis and affirm the superior performance of the sampling optimization. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Liver Disease (LD) is the main cause of death worldwide, affecting a large number of people. A variety of factors affect the liver, resulting in this disease. The diagnosis of this condition is both expensive and time-consuming. Machine Learning offers a lot of potential in terms of automated disease diagnosis. As a result, the purpose of this research is to assess the efficacy of various Machine Learning (ML) algorithms to lower the high cost of liver disease diagnosis through prediction. With the current rise in numerous liver disorders, it's more important than ever to detect liver disease early on. This research proposed intelligent model to predict liver disease using machine learning technique. This proposed model is more effective and comprehensive in terms of performance of 0.884 accuracy, and 0.116 miss-rate. © 2022 IEEE.

Crafting Compelling Argumentative Writing for Undergraduates: Exploring the Nexus of Digital Annotations, Conversational Agents, and Collaborative Concept Maps

Argumentative writing is a fundamental aspect of undergraduate students’ academic and scientific writing related to critical thinking and problem-solving skills. However, previous studies have shown that students face various difficulties with argumentative writing, such as unclear and illogical ideas, less-structured arguments, and unbalanced interpretation of issues, data, and evidence. This study aims to improve the argumentative writing skills of undergraduate students by integrating computer-supported argumentative writing tools, such as annotation, conversational agents (CAs), and collaborative concept maps, into an online learning management system. Since the study was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic, these tools can support meaningful learning activities and investigation in argumentative writing. The researchers divided sixty participants into the experimental group (N = 30) and the control group (N = 30). The results showed that the experimental group’s writing achievements outperformed the control group, and the three tools effectively improved the five elements of argumentative writing, including claims, grounds, warrants, backings, and rebuttal. Furthermore, a deep analysis found that the number of annotations, valid CAs’ responses, and argument nodes on collaborative concept maps can significantly predict students’ argumentative writing development. Moreover, students perceived that the incorporated tools could effectively improve their argumentative writing skills. © The Author(s) 2024.

The article describes a new method for malware classification,based on a Machine Learning(ML)model architecture specifically designed for malware detection,enabling real-time and accurate malware *** an innovative feature dimensionality reduction technique called the Interpolation-based Feature Dimensionality Reduction Technique(IFDRT),the authors have significantly reduced the feature space while retaining critical information necessary for malware *** technique optimizes the model’s performance and reduces computational *** proposed method is demonstrated by applying it to the BODMAS malware dataset,which contains 57,293 malware samples and 77,142 benign samples,each with a 2381-feature *** the IFDRT method,the dataset is transformed,reducing the number of features while maintaining essential data for accurate *** evaluation results show outstanding performance,with an F1 score of 0.984 and a high accuracy of 98.5%using only two reduced *** demonstrates the method’s ability to classify malware samples accurately while minimizing processing *** method allows for improving computational efficiency by reducing the feature space,which decreases the memory and time requirements for training and *** new method’s effectiveness is confirmed by the calculations,which indicate significant improvements in malware classification accuracy and *** research results enhance existing malware detection techniques and can be applied in various cybersecurity applications,including real-timemalware detection on resource-constrained *** and scientific contribution lie in the development of the IFDRT method,which provides a robust and efficient solution for feature reduction in ML-based malware classification,paving the way for more effective and scalable cybersecurity measures.

The considerable surge in energy consumption due to population growth and the use of new technology has posed significant challenges to energy security and the environment. Managing energy consumption on the consumer side is crucial as the demand for energy continues to increase. Consumers need to monitor their daily usage and understand consumption standards to prepare themselves for energy efficiency and cost savings. To address these challenges, a Smart Energy Management System (SEMS) based on the Internet of Energy (IoE) has been developed. This system uses day-Ahead planning and accurate energy availability forecasting to manage energy demand in a smart environment with high sustainable energy penetration. The Fuzzy based Weighted Federated Learning (FWFML) approach is integrated into the system to optimize energy management. The SEMS system monitors energy usage at the user level, and a review of management plans has been introduced to improve energy efficiency in terms of 93.5% accuracy, and 6.5% miss-rate. This research work also highlights future challenges in developing SEMS to increase energy efficiency in a more robust manner. © 2024 IEEE.
