Computational intelligence (CI) has been extensively used in financial technology areas to help make smart decisions within enormous solution spaces. This study proposes a new portfolio optimization model using hybrid strategies to concurrently consider long and short investments and compose effective portfolios assessed by an emerging indicator to reach an excellent balance between return and risk. It exploits the trend ratio investment strategy to a detailed extent to evaluate the steady uptrend and downtrend portfolios and provides an in-depth discussion of the U.S. stock market. The proposed method combines long and short selling through a single fund to enhance investment efficiency. Quantum-inspired CI is adopted to construct a near-optimal portfolio efficiently and effectively, and sliding windows are applied to rebalance the portfolio and dynamically discover appropriate periods. The experiment conducts comprehensive statistical tests to show that hybrid strategies significantly improve traditional approaches. The comparison with other traditional methods shows outstanding performances in MDD, PF, RoMaD, return, and trend ratio. The proposed hybrid portfolio optimization application can be complementary, offset the volatility and increase the return, and show great potential in the financial industry. © 2023 IEEE.

A promising 5G communications technology was already known as CR-Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (CR- NOMA). Power allocation (PA) and user pairing both affect how well NOMA systems perform. For the PA problem, the majority of recent studies offer suboptimal solutions with high computing complexity that prioritize rate maximization over performance fairness. Furthermore, a thorough search is required for the combined optimization of PA and UP. The primary contribution of this paper is the suggestion of a brand-new, minimally difficult Maximization optimization Data rate based power allocation (MODRFPA) in downlink CR-NOMA. The combined effects of SNR per subcarrier and typically combined channel gains have been thoroughly analyzed and investigated. Users' feedback on NOMA's performance in terms of user fairness and capacity is demonstrated. The outcomes of the simulation demonstrate that the suggested MODRPA can enhance the fairness and data rate of current UP techniques. Additionally, simulation findings demonstrate that the proposed coefficient power performs schemes more effectively and offers performance that is close to ideal. © 2023 IEEE.

A-ReSEUnet: Achieve no-label binary segmentation of nuclei in histology images

Histopathological images reveal a lot of information about tissue health. The task of nucleus segmentation can be applied to more diverse studies. The potential of deep learning has been demonstrated for the task of nuclei segmentation. However, the cost and time required for labeling data, as well as the lack of annotators, makes it difficult to keep up with the continuous generation of new pathological images. This paper proposes a method that combines attention mechanisms and self-supervised learning to train a model for nuclei segmentation on unlabeled data. The method is mainly divided into two stages. After the initial preprocessing of the image, the enhanced image of the nucleus area can be obtained in the first stage. Subsequently, the original image and the augmented image needed for self-supervised learning undergo feature extraction in the second stage. The results of this study show that the proposed method can achieve dice scores exceeding 0.7 in the nucleus binary segmentation task without labels. Fine-tuning the model for downstream tasks can also achieve the effect of F1 score 0.7 multi-category segmentation. Using the same experimental setting, the method proposed in this study achieves a dice score of 0.779 on the MoNuSeg dataset, which is only 0.03 lower than the highest dice score of 0.809 achieved by the compared supervised learning methods. In comparison to other unsupervised models, this method demonstrates superior segmentation performance. Moreover, this study applies the training weights to other histopathology image datasets, enabling the generation of the same binary segmentation effect. © 2017 Elsevier Inc. Quantum computers, leveraging superposition and entanglement, offer significant qubit efficiency for data processing compared to classical systems. However, encoding classical data into quantum states, given the current limitations of quantum hardware, often results in higher runtime complexity than classical methods, thus limiting the perceived quantum advantage. Previous quantum data compression methods, primarily based on Amplitude Encoding and mixed-state systems, result in lossy data recovery and necessitate extensive preprocessing. In this work, we propose Quantum Run-Length Encoding (QRLE), a novel lossless quantum data compression method that integrates Basic Encoding with Run-Length Encoding principles. By encoding repeated data sequences with their run lengths, QRLE achieves efficient and accurate data recovery on quantum computers, while exponentially reducing both qubit costs and runtime complexity compared to existing quantum data storage models. We further explore QRLE’s application in image processing, where it significantly optimizes quantum resource utilization over recent quantum image representation techniques. Experiments conducted on both quantum simulators and IBM’s superconducting quantum computer validate the efficiency of QRLE and confirm its compatibility with current quantum hardware.

In this paper, the optimization of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) localization under jamming attacks is studied. In the considered network, a base station (BS) collaborates with an active UAV to localize a target UAV. During this positioning process, a jamming UAV transmits discontinuous signals to passive UAVs to interfere the distance information measurement. To localize the target UAV under jamming attacks, the BS jointly use two localization methods: 1) generative adversarial network (GAN)-based positioning method and 2) time difference of arrival (TDOA)-based positioning method. Since GAN-based positioning method cannot defense in a strong jamming signal while TDOA-based positioning method may consume more energy and sacrifice localization accuracy, the BS must select an appropriate positioning method (GAN-based or TDOA-based methods) and four distance measurement information of passive UAVs to estimate the position of the target UAV. This problem is formulated as an optimization problem whose goal is to minimize the positioning error between the estimated and the ground truth positions of the target UAV while considering jamming attacks and the trajectory of passive UAVs. To solve this problem, we propose a mixture Gaussian distribution model-based collaborative reinforcement learning (RL) method which enables the active UAV to determine its transmit power and trajectory, and enables the BS to select the most appropriate subsets of distance measurement information and the optimal positioning method according to the movement of passive UAVs and the unknown jamming attack pattern of the jamming UAV. Simulation results show the proposed method can reduce the positioning error of the target UAV by up to 36.5% compared to the method that does not consider the GAN-based positioning method. © 2024 IEEE.

Drug discovery and development is a time-consuming and cost-intensive process. computer-aided drug design can speed up the timeline and reduce costs by decreasing the number of necessary biochemical experiments. The number of studies using quantum computing to solve problems in drug development has been increasing in recent years. In this review, we briefly introduce the main steps in drug discovery and development and how computers help to find potential drug candidates. Recent studies of quantum computing in drug development based on the structure of target proteins are listed chronologically. They include protein structure prediction, molecular docking, quantum simulation, and quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models. Current quantum devices are still susceptible to noise and error but are well suited for hybrid quantum-classical algorithms. The quantum advantage is demonstrated on hybrid systems and quantum-inspired devices such as quantum annealers. We hope to see more applications of quantum computing in the field of drug discovery and development.

It is expected to deploy chatbots as sales assistants on e-commerce platforms soon. In recent years, the capabilities demonstrated by large language models (LLMs) indicate their suitability for this role. However, a dialogue process is not fully established. Most existing works concentrate on searching for ideal products, such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and product search. Many proposed methods rely on product reviews. However, in the case of some e-commerce platform products, valuable reviews are often lacking, rendering these approaches impractical. Thus, we studied how to assist users and select a set of candidate products. Accordingly, we simulated sales conversations based on the product features provided by the seller, using LLM and reliable content while addressing the cold-start problem. Specifically, we used product features to generate customer persona for user simulation. LLM was used to play the role of sales assistant in giving recommendations. The experimental results showed that practical conversation was created between customers and chatbots in Traditional Chinese.
