Generative Adversarial Networks for Motor Imagery Classification using Wavelet Packet Decomposition and Complex Morlet Transform

The area of brain-computer interface research is widely spreading as it has a diverse array of potential applications. Motor imagery classification is a boon to several people with motor impairment. Low accuracy and datasets with few trial recordings present challenges for this classification. This research offers a novel approach to these problems in electroencephalography signal classification for efficient control of neuroprosthetic devices. By using wavelet packet decomposition the proposed method divides the EEG signal into eight frequency bands. Each of these bands were then evaluated by a one-dimensional convolution neural network to find the most discriminative band. Only EEG signals filtered with these bands were used to generate time-frequency images called scalograms using complex Morlet transform. These scalograms were then classified using a two-dimensional convolution neural network optimized for spatial-temporal feature extraction and classification. To mitigate data scarcity, generative adversarial networks were used for effective data augmentation. Experimental evaluation on a benchmark dataset demonstrated substantial improvement: the two-dimensional convolution neural network achieved 93.63% accuracy, surpassing the 85% achieved by the one-dimensional convolution neural network baseline. Precision, recall, and F1-score metrics validated robust performance across motor imagery tasks. Comparative analysis with the latest methods underscored the proposed model’s superiority in accuracy and reliability. Using wavelet transformations, convolution neural network architectures, and generative adversarial network-driven data augmentation presented a promising framework for advancing brain-computer interface applications, particularly in enhancing neuroprosthetic device control. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

The big data processing framework Spark is used to power a parameterizable recommender system that can make recommendations for music based on a user’s individual tastes and take into account a variety of musical tonal qualities. The system as it is presently built is completely scalable, which means that additional songs can be contributed to the data, the cluster size could be increased, and new types of audio information, in addition to more cutting-edge similarity evaluations, may be included. Another issue discussed in this research paper is the parallel collection of required audio characteristics on a computer cluster. Song recommendations for a dataset including more than 114,000 songs may be created on a Spark cluster with 16 nodes in under 12 s by integrating eight distinct audio feature types and similarity assessments. After the features have been retrieved, they are sent to the Spark-based recommender system to be processed. The calculated distance was displayed, examined, and graphically depicted. By computing the distance depending on the melody, rhythmic, and timbral components of the music, the final software controls song suggestion. © 2023, The Author(s).

Stairdepth: a novel staircase detection through depth maps generated by depth anything V2

Detection of a staircase is an important task in the fields of both assistive technology and autonomous navigation with an aim to enable substantial improvement in safety and accessibility for both those with limited vision and those with mobility problems. Classic methods often perform poorly under challenging conditions, such as low lighting, irregular architectural arrangements, or occluded views. Whereas the integration of physical depth sensors has increased detection accuracy, this integration introduces increased complexity, cost and greater maintenance issues. Our work proposes a novel architecture capable of directly estimating depth maps from color images using a pre-trained model without relying on physical sensors for depth estimation. It detects the staircase efficiently, including the classification of stair lines into concave or convex, with the classification of surfaces as a tread or riser, hence localizing staircases accurately. Our proposed methodology demonstrated exceptional results, with 83.2% Precision, 90.8% Recall, and 72.2% Intersection over Union on stair line classification and 97.1% Pixel Accuracy and 82.9% Mean Pixel Accuracy on stair surfaces by outperforming the efficacy of current approaches pertaining to stair line and surface classification. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's institute of computer Applications and Management 2025.

Enhancing Industrial Anomaly Detection with Auto Encoder-Based Temporal Convolutional Networks for Motor Fault Classification

The creation of binary and multi-classification models with the goal of accurately detecting and categorizing motor defects is important to study. This work explores how autoencoders can be used to apply self-supervised learning in industrial settings. A generic temporal convolutional network with an autoencoder was built and trained using the milling data. The successful identification and classification of motor faults underscore the industrial anomaly detection using advanced machine learning techniques. Also, paper highlights the importance of data processing and domain expertise in achieving significant model performance improvements. The performance used a fraction of the data that was available, highlighting the need of future research to include a more extensive range of fault states and the intensities of those fault states in order to enhance the diagnostic capabilities of the model. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Ultra-low power MoS2 optoelectronic synapse with wavelength sensitivity for color target recognition

Optoelectronic synapses that integrate visual perception and pre-processing hold significant potential for neuromorphic vision systems（NVSs）. However, due to a lack of wavelength sensitivity, existing NVS mainly focuses on gray-scale image processing, making it challenging to recognize color images. Additionally, the high power consumption of optoelectronic synapses, compared to the 10 fJ energy consumption of biological synapses, limits their broader application. To address these challenges, an energy-efficient NVS capable of color target recognition in a noisy environment was developed,utilizing a MoS2optoelectronic synapse with wavelength sensitivity. Benefiting from the distinct photon capture capabilities of 450, 535, and 650 nm light, the optoelectronic synapse exhibits wavelength-dependent synaptic plasticity, including excitatory postsynaptic current（EPSC）, paired-pulse facilitation（PPF）, and long-term plasticity（LTP）. These properties can effectively mimic the visual memory and color discrimination functions of the human vision system. Results demonstrate that the NVS, based on MoS2optoelectronic synapses, can eliminate the color noise at the sensor level, increasing color image recognition accuracy from 50% to 90%. Importantly, the optoelectronic synapse operates at a low voltage spike of0.0005 V, consuming only 0.075 fJ per spike, surpassing the energy efficiency of both existing optoelectronic and biological synapses. This ultra-low power, color-sensitive device eliminates the need for color filters and offers great promise for future deployment in filter-free NVS.

Mental stress has been a major issue among all age groups today. This is more like a stigma in the society where people don't even want to talk about it openly leading to severe health issues. Nowadays, people are deeply engaged with social media platforms for connection and self-expression of their emotions. They express all these through posts, photos, and comments. Thus, social media platforms can help in predicting the mental state and well-being of an individual. Prediction of a person's mental health can help to undertake some preventive measures. Various researchers have worked around this topic but there is no evidence of utilizing the most active web of people for obtaining the most accurate results. Machine Learning (ML) algorithms are used in this research study to identify whether a person is mentally stressed or not based on the social media data obtained from the user's post or by using a text input of around hundred words from users related to their day-to-day activities. This research study has used a decision tree, random forest, and Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (referred as BERT onwards) model classifier to train models. This study has used a dataset of Reddit (a social media platform) posts text data for training the models. The primary objective is to compare the efficacy of various machine learning models in predicting mental health based on social media data. © 2024 IEEE.

Autonomous vehicles (AVs) increasingly rely on vehicle-to-everything (V2X) networks for communication. However, due to the devices' heterogeneity, they are more susceptible to attacks like distributed denial of service (DDoS), resulting in packet loss and transmission delays. Existing solutions to these issues often create bottlenecks and lack post-attack recovery mechanisms. To solve these problems, this paper proposes RAPID-AV, an ML-based approach that uses programmable P4 switches for real-time detection and mitigation of DDoS attacks in AV networks. The proposed system uses a threefold strategy: collect traffic statistics from AV, use P4-based programmable packet processing for anomaly detection, and use majority voting to mitigate attacks. In our experiments, we found that the decision tree algorithm achieves an accuracy of 94.33% in distinguishing traffic from DDoS traffic. In addition, RAPID-AV demonstrated a nearly 10% reduction in CPU load during attacks and maintained consistent communication between AV and RSU. This approach can help improve AV network security while addressing the limitations of existing solutions. © 2024 IEEE.

Organ donation and transplantation have long been critical medical procedures, but they face numerous challenges, including scarcity, malpractices, and complex allocation processes. Also, they are vulnerable to the single point of failure problem due to centralization. Unlike existing blockchain solutions that only cover aspects like donor-recipient matching or medical record storage, our approach integrates hospitals into the system to ensure fair allocation of organs. The proposed organ donation decentralized app Organ Harbour utilizes Ethereum blockchain-based solution to automate this process in decentralized way, also it ensures transparency, privacy, security, and trustworthiness. This ensures secure and transparent registration of donor-patient information, including medical IDs, blood types, and organ details. Organ Harbour streamlines the process, eliminating third-party involvement and reducing transplantation costs. Moreover, by leveraging blockchain's immutability and smart contract capabilities, the system enhances data integrity and prediction accuracy. Overall, this research presents an approach to organ donation and transplantation, fostering security, transparency, and an efficient healthcare ecosystem. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

High-dimensional and incomplete(HDI) matrices are primarily generated in all kinds of big-data-related practical applications. A latent factor analysis(LFA) model is capable of conducting efficient representation learning to an HDI matrix,whose hyper-parameter adaptation can be implemented through a particle swarm optimizer(PSO) to meet scalable ***, conventional PSO is limited by its premature issues,which leads to the accuracy loss of a resultant LFA model. To address this thorny issue, this study merges the information of each particle's state migration into its evolution process following the principle of a generalized momentum method for improving its search ability, thereby building a state-migration particle swarm optimizer(SPSO), whose theoretical convergence is rigorously proved in this study. It is then incorporated into an LFA model for implementing efficient hyper-parameter adaptation without accuracy loss. Experiments on six HDI matrices indicate that an SPSO-incorporated LFA model outperforms state-of-the-art LFA models in terms of prediction accuracy for missing data of an HDI matrix with competitive computational ***, SPSO's use ensures efficient and reliable hyper-parameter adaptation in an LFA model, thus ensuring practicality and accurate representation learning for HDI matrices.
