An adjusted empirical mode decomposition method, built on Student's probability density function is presented. Compared to the original EMD, the new version provides a lower number of intrinsic mode functions and is more accurate in signal modeling and prediction. Using a backpropagation neural network for learning and in-sample prediction, our experimental results on a synthetic signal, an electrocardiogram (ECG), and a financial time series show that the presented tEMD is more efficient and leads to higher prediction accuracy than conventional EMD, regardless of the input time signal.

Spreadsheets play an important role for managerial accountants. For these practitioners, spreadsheets are necessary tools for traditional responsibilities such as planning, budgeting, forecasting as well as newer decision-making responsibilities. Responsibilities for managerial accounting practitioners have shifted from a transaction-based focus to an emphasis on decision support, planning, and control. Managerial accountants are expected to be key members of decision making and cross-functional teams outside the accounting area. Spreadsheets are major tools for meeting these new responsibilities. However, there is a significant gap in the literature with respect to what features of spreadsheets are most relevant for these new responsibilities. The purpose of this exploratory research is to provide evidence as to (a) what features of spreadsheets managerial accountants use, and (b) what features of spreadsheets new hires are expected to use. © 2014 Elsevier Ltd.

Studies conducted under a doctorate programme, aiming at designing a Skills and Good Practices Model in eleadership, clearly identified, from literature review, eDelphi study and further analysis of the results obtained from an interview Focus Group, a set of items linked to e-Leaders specific skills and good practices required in the process of collaborative learning within virtual teams (e- Teams): "11 - Effective e-leader communication", "5 - e-leader skills to building trust", "12- Operating coordination of the Virtual Team";and "4 - E-leader behaviours to promote effectiveness".Since these items are considered of utmost importance in the e-Delphi study and in the Focus Group, they validate the areas of the Skill Model MOODO COMPETE E-LEADER, namely the Operational Coordination, Training and Education, Architecture and Technological Infrastructures. For each of these areas a set of guidelines is presented that provide the e-Leader a series of good practices that facilitate the making of a Global Environment, Virtual, to build High Levels of Trust within the e-Team and the spread of the Creation and Sharing of Knowledge. This environment must be supported by an appropriate structure of empowered leadership. The article show also a model for understanding the specific skills and characteristics of e-leadership in Learning Management Systems (LMS), used for implementation of virtual teams. A framework was done, to identify skills and characteristics of the e-leaders, based on the review of literature about the e-leadership paradigm and its relationship with the virtual teams.

Jagiellonian Postitron Emission Tomography (J-PET) scanner based on plastic scintillators has been developed at the Jagiellonian University. This innovative solution enables cost effective construction of PET detector with large field of view. At present we are working on the solution which would allow for the simultaneous PET and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). For that purpose we will use silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) readout which can be applied in the strong magnetic field of the MRI scanner. In this talk we will present results of the development of a novel scintillator material (referred to as the J-PET scintillator). The purpose of the development was the elaboration of scintillator with optical properties allowing for more efficient registration of photons with SiPM array with respect to the presently available plastics scintillators and at the same time with the superior timing characteristics. The novelty of the elaborated concept lies in usage of 2-(4-styrylphenylbenzoxazole) as a scintillation additive – wavelength shifter. The substance has been used for the first time as a scintillator dopant. J-PET scintillators were manufactured via bulk polymerization of styrene or vinyltoluene and the optimal concentration of the 2-(4-styrylphenylbenzoxazole) was set by maximizing the light output and timing properties. In the talk properties of J-PET scintillators will be presented and discussed in view of its application for the PET/MR imaging, and the performance of the developed material will be compared to the properties of commercially available scintillators. In order to enhance diagnostic capabilities Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) devices are combined into a single hybrid device providing an access to both metabolic and morphological information during a single examination. Typically the PET detectors are placed inside the diagnostic volume of the MRI scanner, however being outside the commonly used local transmit-receiver (transceiver) coils such as head or chest coils. Coils are made of plastic parts and metal conductors on which annihilation gamma quanta may scatter before reaching the PET detectors scintillating material. This fact could cause the worsening of PET images spatial resolution and the field-of-view for the PET detectors. We propose a solution based on a novel PET tomograph concept comprising multiple detection modules, built from polymer scintillation strip ended with silicon photodetectors, arranged circumferentially inside the working volume of the MRI local transceiver coil. The adaptive of the polymer scintillators in both shape and size properties allows for a use of a standard MRI coils constructions to be combined with PET detection system without influence on the coil shape, geometry and material properties optimized so far. Current work is focused on a dedicated detection electronics development based on silicon photodetectors arrays and digital signal processing unit that will operate in high static magnetic field as well as radiofrequency waves environment of MRI scanner. The novel approach to the hybrid local coil construction would allow for using any existing MRI system extending its functionality by the PET imaging feature. Access to the anatomical and functional information about the body interior is possible with tomography techniques relying on the registration of radiation from the tissues. Modern medicine offers: Positron Emission Tomography, Magnetic Resonance and computer Tomography. One of the present technological challenges is to combine the PET and MR scanners to work as single device to provide PET/MR images. Presented solution of a portable-PET scanner will allow simultaneous registration of PET and MR images utilizing existing MR scanners. The developed device is based on the strip-PET concept consisting of detection modules, each build from a plastic scintillator strip connected at both ends with silicon photomultipliers array. In the proposed solution determination of the point of annihilation along the direction of the gamma quanta flight path, is based on the time difference registered in various detection modules. It is important to stress that the utilized silicon photomultipliers are insensitive to the MR magnetic field. In order to position two tomographic images with respect to each other we will use watermarks, seen by MRI system. Since this method explicitly specify the position of the MRI with respect to PET scanner therefore it enables for synchronize both tomographic images. The advantage of this solution is to eliminate the possibility of artifacts in tomographic images hindering the identification of potentially cancerous lesions. In the talk we will present developed solution of a mobile-PET insert to MR scanners. The presentation will include the characteristics of a proposed device together with the advantages over present solutions.

Water resources system is characterized by complex interdependent components with multi-dimensional objectives. In this paper, multi-dimensional critical control of water resources is analyzed. Some indexes are used to set objective for each dimension and a model for multi-dimensional critical control is established. The case of Bayannur is studied as an example: the model is solved to derive Bayannur's initial water allocation for different aspects in the target year 2020. The relationships between economic benefits and per capita food consumption, the amount of over exploitation of groundwater, and the sewage emission are analyzed based on this model to obtain the relationship curves between the economic dimension and social, environmental, and ecological dimensions. The balance of regional water resources will be a constraint to impact water allocation. Finally, the objections and constraints are applied to the model based on the relationship curves and the balance of regional water resources. Under three demands, three best water use plan is proposed. This study provides a strong basis for planning and allocating water use in Bayannur.

The success of a security attack crucially depends on time: the more time available to the attacker, the higher the probability of a successful attack;when given enough time, any system can be compromised. Insight in time-dependent behaviors of attacks and the evolution of the attacker's success as time progresses is therefore a key for effective countermeasures in securing systems. This paper presents an efficient technique to analyze attack times for an extension of the prominent formalism of attack trees. If each basic attack step, i.e., each leaf in an attack tree, is annotated with a probability distribution of the time needed for this step to be successful, we show how this information can be propagated to an analysis of the entire tree. In this way, we obtain the probability distribution for the entire system to be attacked successfully as time progresses. For our approach to be effective, we take great care to always work with the best possible compression of the representations of the probability distributions arising. This is achieved by an elegant calculus of acyclic phase type distributions, together with an effective compositional compression technique. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach on three case studies, exhibiting orders of magnitude of compression. © 2014 Springer-Verlag.

Most literature on the usability of 3D user interfaces (3DUI) in ASD therapy consists of a series of case studies based on games for rehabilitation. These games have been largely successful. However, it is difficult to generalize the results of these specific case studies. The usability of atomic 3DUI interactions (e.g., rotation, translation) with respect to adolescents with ASD has not yet been evaluated. Adolescents with ASD often have enhanced spatial cognitive abilities and less efficient hand-eye coordination. Our main research question is "Do adolescents with ASD perform 3DUI tasks differently than typically developed adolescents and if so, why?" To address this question, we present a matched pair user study including adolescents without ASD (i.e. as controls) paired with adolescents who had a high ASD severity score, but were still considered high functioning. Our results give insight into the usability of 3DUI for adolescents with ASD and provide generalizable guidelines for future 3DUI applications for children with autism. Copyright 2014 ACM.

Objective. To compare the signals of pulse diagnosis of fatty liver disease (FLD) patients and cirrhosis patients. methods. After collecting the pulse waves of patients with fatty liver disease, cirrhosis patients, and healthy volunteers, we do pretreatment and parameters extracting based on harmonic fitting, modeling, and identification by unsupervised learning Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and supervised learning Least squares Regression (LS) and Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) with cross-validation step by step for analysis. Results. There is significant difference between the pulse diagnosis signals of healthy volunteers and patients with FLD and cirrhosis, and the result was confirmed by 3 analysis methods. The identification accuracy of the 1st principal component is about 75% without any classification formation by PCA, and supervised learning's accuracy (LS and LASSO) was even more than 93% when 7 parameters were used and was 84% when only 2 parameters were used. Conclusion. The method we built in this study based on the combination of unsupervised learning PCA and supervised learning LS and LASSO might offer some confidence for the realization of computer-aided diagnosis by pulse diagnosis in TCM. In addition, this study might offer some important evidence for the science of pulse diagnosis in TCM clinical diagnosis. © 2015 Wang Nanyue et al.
