In this study, we implemented a digital game-based learning (DGBL) system over Face book platform. For better understanding the impact of DGBL applied to social networking, the technology acceptance model (TAM) was employed for the evaluation. Results of this study showed that the DGBL incorporated into a social network website is a feasible and sound model for teaching. This study investigated the potential important design issues of the application over a social network website. It is believed that this study could bring teachers a better understanding how those characteristics of social networks can attribute to the success of users' learning.

digital watermarking has drawn extensive interest as a means of protecting digital contents from unauthorized copying. This paper proposes a robust audio watermarking scheme based on the Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT) for copyright protection of digital audio data. The watermarking scheme transforms the original audio into the frequency domain. The magnitude spectrum of the original audio is divided into an arbitrary number of segments and the energy of each segment is calculated. Watermarks are then embedded into most prominent peaks of the highest energy segment of the original audio. Watermarks are extracted by performing the inverse of the watermark embedding process. Simulation results indicate that our proposed watermarking scheme resists various attacks such as noise addition, cropping, re-sampling, re-quantization, and MP3 compression. Moreover, it outperforms Cox's method in terms of imperceptibility, while keeping comparable robustness with the Cox's method. Its SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) values range from 20 dB to 31 dB, in contrast to Cox's method whose SNRs range from only 11 dB to 23 dB.

Decomposition and segmentation of the objects represented by point cloud data become increasingly important for purposes like shape analysis and object recognition. In this paper, we propose a perception based approach to segment point cloud into distinct parts, and the decomposition is made possible of spatially close but geodetically distant parts. Curvature is a critical factor for shape representation, reflecting the convex and concave characteristics of an object, which is obtained by cubic surface fitting in our approach. To determine the number of patches, we calculate and select the critical feature points based on perception information to represent each patch. Taking the critical marker sets as a guide, each marker is spread to a meaningful region by curvature-based decomposition, and also further constraints are provided by the variation of normals. Then a skeleton extraction method is proposed and a label-driven skeleton simplification process is implemented. Further, a semantic graph is constructed according to the decomposed model and the skeletal structure. We illustrate the framework and demonstrate our approach on point cloud data to evaluate its function to decompose object shape based on human perceptions. Meanwhile, the result of decomposition is demonstrated with extracted skeletons. Performance of this algorithm is exhibited with experimental results, which proves its robustness to noise. Terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) can be used to acquire 3D facade information of modern architectures, represented as point cloud data (PCD). Basic shape elements of an architecture, like windows and doors, should be recovered in reconstruction;and the model should be represented corresponding to the information of architectural design, such as lines and polygons. Most recent approaches could not reconstruct models automatically with designed shape details. Either user's interactions are needed [Zheng et al. 2010;Nan et al. 2010];or the reconstructed model is coarse without information of shape details. Therefore, it is necessary to develop new algorithms to generate geometric models automatically, fitting well the design information of architectural PCD. A novel framework is proposed to generate explicitly an architectural model from scanned points of an existing architecture. An automatic, hierarchical and fast facade reconstruction framework is presented based on a novel combination of facade structures, detailed windows propagation, hierarchical model consolidation and contextual semantic representations. As a result, a high-quality geometric model of an architecture ia generated. Figure 1 shows the procedure of this work, from building detection, to planar region decomposition, to boundary point extraction, and to the consolidated hierarchal model.

Stylized silhouette is a powerful tool for non-photorealistic rendering. It can be used to simulate different materials and drawing techniques. In this paper, we present a simple technique to improve the existing stylized silhouette algorithms in two aspects. First, a new shading algorithm is developed to render the surface of a model. It improves the X-toon shading by simulating various materials. Second, an efficient method is put forward to guarantee the geometric continuity between adjacent edges for texture mapping of silhouette stylization. Experiments demonstrate that our method runs in real-time and achieves a nice visual effect. Copyright © 2010 by the Association for Computing Machinery, Inc.

The nonlinear effects of partial erasure and transition shift, however, often limit the performance attained by the partial response maximum likelihood (PRML) detector because of model mismatch. Conventionally, the nonlinear effects are either ignored or approximated by linearization technique. In the article, a PRML detector for the PR4 model including the nonlinear effects has been developed to improve the detector performance. The new representation is more accurate and the corresponding PRML detector has better performance without increasing the realization complexity. computer simulation results show that the new representation outperforms the conventional ones due to the enhanced modeling capability. The method is also expected to be applied in the high order partial response channel. © 2010 IEEE.

As magnetic recording densities grow, the nonlinear distortions, known as transition shift and partial erasure, arise and limit the performance of the detector. Despite that the transition shift can be compensated by a write current technique, the effect of partial erasure complicates the evaluation of the correlation functions for the storage data and the nonreturn-to-zero- inverted modulated data. In this article, we observe the dependence between the partial erasure effect and storage data, and derive the correlation functions for storage data and nonreturn-to-zero-inverted modulated data in a high density magnetic recording channel. The closed-form of the correlation functions are obtained, these results are applied to verify the timing function of the Muller & Mueller's phase detector in a partial response class IV channel via computer simulations. © 2010 IEEE.

Infiltrative nature of lesions is a significant feature of malignant breast lesion in ultrasound images. Characterizing infiltrative nature is crucial for the realization of computer-aided diagnosis system. In this study, the infiltrative nature is regarded as an energy that produces irregularly & considerably local variances in a 1-D signal. The local variances can be enhanced by few high octave energies in 1-D discrete periodized wavelet transform (DPWT). A test dataset of breast sonograms with the lesion contour delineated by an experienced physician & two inexperienced students are built for feature efficacy evaluation. A high individual performance result implies that the proposed feature is well correlated with radiologist's perception & closer to match those in trained physician than morphometric parameters. Experimental results also reveal that with a great performance improvement, the proposed feature is suitable for the combination with some morphometric parameters. © 2009 IEEE.

In this paper, we investigate the fault tolerant pancyclicity of the WK-Recursive network. The WK-Recursive network has many attractive properties, such as high degree of regularity, symmetry and efficient communication. Particularly, for any specified degree, it can be expanded to an arbitrary size level without reconfiguring the edges. We show that a WK-Recursive network with amplitude W and level L is pancyclic for W ≥ 5 with W-3 fault edges. Since the connectivity of the WK-Recursive network is W-1, and the WK-Recursive network is pancyclic for W ≥ 5, our result is optimal. © 2009 IEEE.
