Until recently, Smart Home technologies are still not widely deployed in most peoples living spaces. The main reason is that operations management mechanisms for Smart Home such as remote deployment, monitoring, and maintenance are not well-studied and only a few attempts have so far been made toward this aspect. CWMP, proposed by Broadband Forum, is a promising standard for realizing a Smart Home operations management platform. Previously, we have investigated real-world operations management issues of Smart Home services, namely, newly installed, module purchasing and download, service start, service update, service diagnosis, failure recovery, usage statistics, and billing. After examining CWMP in detail, several issues of CWMP, namely, poor performance and scalability, poor domain model design and inappropriate web callback architecture, have been identified. The objective of this paper is, therefore, to deal with the issues mentioned above by suggesting a set of RESTful ways to refactor the CWMP-based operations management platform. The overall approach is based on the RESTful architectural style. The proposed architecture has been realized as an operations management platform prototype. Validations and experiments are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed architecture.

This work proposes a system that helps crafters design and create patterns of Amigurumi dolls. Amigurumi refers to a popular style of small Japanese crochet dolls. We aim to help crafters who are interested in making doll patterns by allowing them to create their designs simply by sketching dolls using 2D geometric shapes. The system then detects and converts the shapes into 3D shapes, and anchors these 3D shapes to create 3D models of the dolls. In addition, to conform the design to Amigurumi style, the system can also deform the model to match predetermined doll proportions. The 3D model is used to generate the final crochet pattern.

Transformative artificially intelligent tools, such as ChatGPT, designed to generate sophisticated text indistinguishable from that produced by a human, are applicable across a wide range of contexts. The technology presents opportunities as well as, often ethical and legal, challenges, and has the potential for both positive and negative impacts for organisations, society, and individuals. Offering multi-disciplinary insight into some of these, this article brings together 43 contributions from experts in fields such as computer science, marketing, information systems, education, policy, hospitality and tourism, management, publishing, and nursing. The contributors acknowledge ChatGPT's capabilities to enhance productivity and suggest that it is likely to offer significant gains in the banking, hospitality and tourism, and information technology industries, and enhance business activities, such as management and marketing. Nevertheless, they also consider its limitations, disruptions to practices, threats to privacy and security, and consequences of biases, misuse, and misinformation. However, opinion is split on whether ChatGPT's use should be restricted or legislated. Drawing on these contributions, the article identifies questions requiring further research across three thematic areas: knowledge, transparency, and ethics;digital transformation of organisations and societies;and teaching, learning, and scholarly research. The avenues for further research include: identifying skills, resources, and capabilities needed to handle generative AI;examining biases of generative AI attributable to training datasets and processes;exploring business and societal contexts best suited for generative AI implementation;determining optimal combinations of human and generative AI for various tasks;identifying ways to assess accuracy of text produced by generative AI;and uncovering the ethical and legal issues in using generative AI across different contexts. © 2023 The Authors

Ensemble super-resolution with a reference dataset

By developing sophisticated image priors or designing deep(er) architectures, a variety of image Super-Resolution (SR) approaches have been proposed recently and achieved very promising performance. A natural question that arises is whether these methods can be reformulated into a unifying framework and whether this framework assists in SR reconstruction? In this paper, we present a simple but effective single image SR method based on ensemble learning, which can produce a better performance than that could be obtained from any of SR methods to be ensembled (or called component superresolvers). Based on the assumption that better component superresolver should have larger ensemble weight when performing SR reconstruction, we present a Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) estimation framework for the inference of optimal ensemble weights. Specially, we introduce a reference dataset, which is composed of High-Resolution (HR) and Low-Resolution (LR) image pairs, to measure the super-resolution abilities (prior knowledge) of different component super-resolvers. To obtain the optimal ensemble weights, we propose to incorporate the reconstruction constraint, which states that the degenerated HR image should be equal to the LR observation one, as well as the prior knowledge of ensemble weights into the MAP estimation framework. Moreover, the proposed optimization problem can be solved by an analytical solution. We study the performance of the proposed method by comparing with different competitive approaches, including four state-of-the-art non-deep learning based methods, four latest deep learning based methods and one ensemble learning based method, and prove its effectiveness and superiority on three public datasets.
