The main knowledge management challenges are to capture, store and reuse contextual knowledge generated during interactions that occur daily in an organization. In this paper, we propose an activity context-aware architecture to support knowledge management in working processes. The required features for this architecture are processing, reasoning and sharing contextual knowledge involving information about activities performed. We also present results from evaluation of our proposal - A-CoBrA - for a specific domain. © 2010 IEEE.

Echolocating bats have long demonstrated the potential for air-coupled sonar to guide agile navigation through complex 3D environments. While air-coupled sonar has been extensively used in mobile ground robotics and a considerable amount of the bat's auditory system has been studied, little work has been done to understand how the neural circuitry of the bat can integrate echoes into a coherent, behaving system. This paper addresses the unique characteristics of bat echolocation and how they impact the design of a neuromorphic VLSI-based echolocation system. By constructing a system to solve bat-specific sensorimotor tasks the authors have encountered a number of interesting issues and questions that commonly face neuromorphic VLSI designers. Successes, problematic issues, and future directions are discussed

The “swarm robotics” is a relatively recent field of study that investigates the ways in which several robot systems interact with one another throughout the course of time. The organization is able to accomplish its goals by delegating work to a large number of robots that are capable of doing activities that are beyond the capabilities of a single robot. This is accomplished via the use of a broad variety of different methods. It is possible to make use of optimization algorithms in robotic swarms in order to discover answers to difficult trans disciplinary challenges that are encountered in real-world environments. The fact that algorithms for swarm intelligence are able to adjust to changing circumstances makes the potential of this happening a reality. In order to achieve the highest possible level of performance, this study analyses a broad range of different swarm optimization algorithms that may be used to robotic swarm scenarios. This category contains a variety of methodologies, including PSO, GPSO, CSO, ACO, and GSO, among others. Within this section, a comprehensive analysis is provided for each of the strategies that came before it, and an inquiry into the potential future course of action for swarm optimization is furthermore carried out. The ramifications of these tactics are also discussed in this section, which is included in the overall debate.

Estimation of obesity levels based on computational intelligence

Obesity is a worldwide disease that affects people of all ages and gender;in consequence, researchers have made great efforts to identify factors that cause it early. In this study, an intelligent method is created, based on supervised and unsupervised techniques of data mining such as Simple K-Means, Decision Trees (DT), and Support Vector Machines (SVM) to detect obesity levels and help people and health professionals to have a healthier lifestyle against this global epidemic. In this research the primary source of collection was from students 18 and 25 years old at institutions in the countries of Colombia, Mexico, and Peru. The study takes a dataset relating to the main causes of obesity, based on the aim to reference high caloric intake, a decrease of energy expenditure due to the lack of physical activity, alimentary disorders, genetics, socioeconomic factors, and/or anxiety and depression. In the selected dataset, 178 students participated in the study, 81 male and 97 female. Using algorithms including Decision Tree, Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Simple K-Means, the results show a relevant tool to perform a comparative analysis among the mentioned algorithms. © 2020 The Authors

In the last decades, studies on swarm robotics have grown significantly, with different new aspects becoming of interest in research. Although the primary interest in swarm robotics should be the application, which is the task that robots should perform, other aspects are also studied. For instance, in a robotic swarm, it may be necessary to select the robots that would perform a given task, aiming at a division of labor among the members. A similar problem is that of robot recruitment, required when a specific robot needs assistance to execute some tasks and thus needs to recruit other robots of the swarm to do so. In this paper, a distributed algorithm, termed the wave algorithm, is exploited to perform the recruitment based mainly on robot message passing to neighboring robots. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

This paper presents a new Rössler chaotic system using exponential nonlinearity and its application to two-channel synchronization. The proposed chaotic system exhibits a chaotic attractor that resembles the original Rössler system with only six-term in three-dimensional ordinary equation systems using the exponential nonlinearity. Chaotic dynamics are described in terms of equilibria, Jacobian matrix, time domain waveforms, chaotic attractors, and bifurcation diagram. The circuit implementation is relatively compact and simple sine the exponential nonlinearity can be achieved by an inherent nonlinearity of single diode. An application to a two-channel secure communication are also demonstrated, showing a fast, low-error and robust synchronization processes.

A network with no infrastructure, multiple hops, and dispersed nodes called a MANET. Nodes can communicate directly or through intermediaries without the need for permanent infrastructure. In dynamic networks like MANETs, routing procedures enhance the overall appearance of the network by ensuring Quality of Service (QoS). A routing protocol may use a composite routing measure to determine the best path for transferring data. Optimal location-based routing for MANETs based on energy-awareness is presented in this paper. Optimal routes are selected using this fast algorithm. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is used instead of location-aided routing to select the normal data transmission route. Last but not least, the network is tested by simulating its packet delivery ratio, its energy level, its delay, and its overhead.

The presence of detailed clinical information in electronic health record (EHR) systems presents promising prospects for enhancing patient care through automated retrieval techniques. Nevertheless, it is widely acknowledged that accessing data within EHRs is hindered by various methodological challenges. Specifically, the clinical notes stored in EHRs are composed in a narrative form, making them prone to ambiguous formulations and highly unstructured data presentations, while structured reports commonly suffer from missing and/or erroneous data entries. This inherent complexity poses significant challenges when attempting automated large-scale medical knowledge extraction tasks, necessitating the application of advanced tools, such as natural language processing (NLP), as well as data audit techniques. This work aims to address these obstacles by creating and validating a novel pipeline designed to extract relevant data pertaining to prostate cancer patients. The objective is to exploit the inherent redundancies available within the integrated structured and unstructured data entries within EHRs in order to generate comprehensive and reliable medical databases, ready to be used in advanced research studies. Additionally, the study explores potential opportunities arising from these data, offering valuable prospects for advancing research in prostate cancer. © 2024 by SCITEPRESS – science and Technology Publications, Lda.

This paper presents a framework for selecting a combination of existing systems to satisfy new, emerging requirements while reusing existing and proven capabilities to ensure mission success. Decision attributes will be considered during the selection process and will be used to measure the networked computer system's effectiveness to accomplish the mission. This approach will enable system stakeholders to make critical, well-informed decisions to address the continuing evolution of missions, threats, budget and technology.

In this proceeding, we present polarization data of sidebands emitted from strongly driven quasiparticles, demonstrate the dependence of these data on various parameters of the external driving field, and describe the data using an analytical expression, dependent on driving field parameters and the effective Hamiltonian of the system. We propose using this method on spin-momentum locked systems, such as altermagnets, to observe and reconstruct sidebands which are influenced by the topology of individual bands. © Optica Publishing Group 2024 © 2024 The Author(s)
