The reconstruction of electrical current densities from magnetic field measurements is an important technique with applications in materials science, circuit design, quality control, plasma physics, and biology. Analytic reconstruction methods exist for planar currents, but break down in the presence of high-spatial-frequency noise or large standoff distance, restricting the types of systems that can be studied. Here, we demonstrate the use of a deep convolutional neural network for current density reconstruction from two-dimensional images of vector magnetic fields acquired by a quantum diamond microscope . Trained network performance significantly exceeds analytic reconstruction for data with high noise or large standoff distances. This machine learning technique can perform quality inversions on lower-signal-to-noise-ratio data, significantly reducing the data collection time and permitting reconstructions of weaker and three-dimensional current sources.

In this paper we present the architecture for the Personal Autonomic Desktop Manager, a self managing application designed to act on behalf of the user in several aspects: protection, healing, optimization and configuration. The overall goal of this research is to improve the correlation of the autonomic self* properties and doing so also enhance the overall self-management capacity of the desktop (autonomicity). We introduce the Circulatory Computing (CC) model, a self-managing system initiative based on the biological metaphor of the cardiovascular system, and use its concepts in the design and implementation of the architecture.

We report the observation of electrically induced changes in transmissivity in Fabry-Perot devices consisting of spin-cast azo-dye/polymer films deposited between gold mirrors. In poled samples the observed modulation shows a linear dependence on the applied modulating voltage. The ratio of the transmissivity modulation observed using incident transverse magnetic polarization to that observed using transverse electric polarization is used to demonstrate that the electrooptic effect dominates the modulation. This is, to our knowledge, the first reported use of a polymeric thin film linear electrooptic material in a Fabry-Perot structure and demonstrates the use of etalons to enhance electrooptic effects in very thin films.
