Sport action recognition is an interesting area in computer vision. Categorization of sport actions, representing difficult and complex body postures, is regarded as a fine-grained visual classification problem. The Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have attained enhanced performance over conventional feature descriptors in recognizing various sport activities. In general, though decent improvement has been gained using deep learning for sport action recognition, however, recognition of women’s sport activities is not widely explored. Even, no benchmark dataset depicting women’s sport action with sufficient variations is available yet for study. Hence, fine-grained image classification of diverse sport categories involving female/women athletics requires immediate research attention. To overcome this limitation, this paper proposes an image dataset comprising worldwide popular 50 sport categories of women players only. A simple deep learning model is proposed that extracts the high-level deep features using a backbone CNN. Then, these features are pooled from a collection of regular regions representing local discriminative information. The spatial pyramid pooling is applied for mining semantic information and enhancing feature aggregation for classification. The proposed method has achieved satisfactory performance on the Women Sports dataset using four standard backbone CNNs. Moreover, our method has achieved better accuracy on the Yoga-82 pose recognition dataset with a significant margin, e.g., 11.6% gain using ResNet-50 base CNN. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

— The direct pulsewidth modulation (PWM) ac–ac converters are seeing rapid development due to their single-stage power conversion with reduced footprints, due to the elimination of intermediate dc-link capacitor. However, they only provide unipolar voltage gain and fixed frequency operation and use the bidirectional voltage-blocking devices without natural inductor current free-wheeling path, restricting their practical applications. This article proposes a direct PWM bipolar and step-variable frequency buck–boost ac–ac converter. The proposed converter is fabricated by connecting input–output LC filters and a small value film capacitor to six unidirectional voltage-blocking devices, which are arranged as a three-leg inverter module. It can provide noninverting and inverting buck–boost voltage operations with a symmetric bipolar voltage gain of ±d/(1 − d) and can also change the frequency of output voltage in discrete steps, same as that of single-phase matrix converters (MCs). It has no open-circuit risk of inductor due to the presence of natural current free-wheeling path during PWM dead time. Therefore, it is unaffected by the commutation problem of conventional direct ac–ac converters. The proposed converter can realize high-quality input and output due to the presence of second-order input–output filters with continuous input–output currents. A detailed analysis is provided based on proposed switch modulation strategies and confirmed through extensive experimental tests on a laboratory-fabricated hardware. © 2023 IEEE. This research investigates the disruption caused by insufficient destination resources in Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) networks. The study is based on a case study of service disruptions at a Public Service Company (PSC) where the public experienced dropped calls. The research employs Ribbon Analytics, a big data analytics platform, to measure the concurrent session connection on the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). The observation of the VoIP network followed a specific topology with 22 Session Border Controller (SBC) nodes, 2 Call Detail Record (CDR) servers, and 2 Ribbon Analytics (RA) devices. The results indicate that the call failure occurred because the number of sessions had reached the maximum limit. The solution proposed is to increase the number of sessions;however, this cannot be done immediately due to contractual constraints between the telecom operators and the PSC. An alternative solution is to provide a call answering machine managed by AI. Future work could also use text message in the form of chat prompts from AI. The study highlights the importance of big data analysis in identifying and resolving service disruptions in VoIP networks. © 2024 The Authors.

Hand sign recognition is a vital technology in the human-computer interaction, enabling individuals to communicate with machines naturally and effectively. An innovative approach for real-time hand sign identification with the help of CNN and OpenCV is introduced with the fusion of computer vision and deep learning that can accurately interpret and classify an extensive range of hand signs and gestures. This research contributes significantly to the fields of computer vision and human-computer interaction, offering a practical and efficient solution for hand sign recognition. The combination of CNN and OpenCV presents a promising avenue for enhancing accessibility and communication, especially in environments where verbal communication is limited or non-existent. The model is trained with multiple data so that the system can recognize the hand gestures more precisely. Pre-trained architectures like ResNet and MobileNet are combined with the CNN model using ensemble learning and the performance is improved when compared to all the three CNN architectures individually. The ensemble model provides better accuracy of 96 %. The potential applications of this technology are vast, from assisting the hearing-impaired in understanding sign language to more immersive and intuitive interactions. Overall, the approach holds the promise of bridging the gap between human gestures and machine understanding, opening new doors for meaningful interactions between individuals and intelligent systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Cascaded H-bridge (CHB) MLI have emerged as the preferred choice due to their high quality in output waveforms with low harmonic distortion. However, a key limitation in these inverters lies in the requirement of a dedicated DC source for each bridge. To overcome this challenge, there is a transition towards asymmetrical cascaded H-bridge (ACHB) MLIs, enabling the use of a variable DC source for each bridge. The variability in DC supply is achieved through a high-frequency link. This paper introduces a novel optimized switching technique for asymmetrical cascaded H-bridge (ACHB) MLIs with a single DC input incorporating a high-frequency link (HFL). The effectiveness of the suggested approach in achieving a 27-level asymmetric multilevel inverter is substantiated by experimental outcomes obtained through MATLAB/Simulink simulations. © 2024 IEEE.

Recently, third-order cumulants (TOCs) as a non-conventional odd-order statistics, has been introduced to direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation with the third-order nested array (TONA), which significantly increases the number of uniform degrees-of-freedom (uDOFs) and can even be comparable to the fourth-order cumulant approach. In this paper, through analysis of the second-order sum-difference co-array, a third-order sparse linear array (SLA) design scheme suitable for TOCs is proposed, which can extend the commonly used second-order SLAs to the third-order. By selecting an appropriate generator array, the derived third-order SLA has far more uDOFs than the existing TONA, greatly improving its DOA estimation accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.

Due to a shortage of funding and other market challenges, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) face difficulties in adopting new technologies. Numerous technological obstacles negatively impact the long-term commercial achievement of SMEs. The deployment of Industry 4.0hopes to resolve these technological challenges. A sustainable city is a complex structure where economic, societal, and ecological components interact and compete. There is a scarcity of l methodologies for measuring interactions in this complex structure. Industry 4.0 aims to obtain higher performance effectiveness, profitability, and automation. The main goal is to develop a reliable method of evaluating small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) adopting Industry 4.0 technologies, particularly concerning smart city applications. This paper aims to determine the influence of Industry 4.0 in fostering economic efficiency and sustainability amongst these SMEs. The study introduces a multi-criteria decision-making (SC-MCDM) system designed to test an SME’s achievement of their targeted sustainable developmental goals. A technique for computing the interaction between various standards, i.e., (static interactions and dynamical pattern resemblance), as well as the weightage of variables of every indicator generated by the connection, is included within SC-MCDM. Furthermore, applying the suggested technique is validated by assessing the sustainable development goals of twelve Chinese cities within the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) paradigm. From a geographic-temporal viewpoint, spatial variations in city sustainability reveal regional sustainable inequalities. Indicator scores suggest that the most significant factors for most communities are the lack of research spending, falling financing in stationary assets, shortage of financial development, and inadequate shared transit. Most common challenges in Named-entity recognition (NER) require suitable and annotated datasets, tailored to the specific domain of the documents under analysis, for example, legal, medical, and financial documents each require distinct datasets. Reliable identification of named entities within the training set is crucial. Annotations is a vital role in building an effective mechanism. However, creating training sets demands significant human effort, contributing to the high costs associated with NER. High quality training materials are indispensable for evolving machine-learning algorithms, underscoring the importance of dependable training data. Thus, the primary challenge lies in acquiring and managing data rather than in the algorithms themselves. To overcome most common situations of finding new unseen names, this paper proposes a mechanism to detect a new undiscovered name in Thai language based on sentence contexts. The method uses BI-LSTM model to learn sentence structures and predict a new unseen name from its context. Our framework comprises two main tasks. The first one is word entity extraction. The second task is using the model to identify unrecognized named entities. Evaluation of the proposed method is described with a successful rate of accuracy in discovering newly identified entities. This contributes to the expansion of entity recognition capabilities in Thai language processing. © 2024 IEEE.

The aim of this research is to do a CFD investigation on the K-type propeller for enumerating the various performance factors. This paper focuses on the design of rotor blades with the 3D pro-E software and analyzes a K-type rotor in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis to predict the performance parameters such as pressure coefficients, magnitude vector capability, axial velocities, radial velocities, static pressures, and dynamic pressures of the propeller subjected to different loads, and its effect of pitch, rake, and skew formations of the analysis with aluminum material coated with bronze optimized by the K-type inferior design is implemented in this analysis. However, this study proves that aluminum material possesses better exposure to the replacement of conventional rotors to enumerate the dynamic performance. The performance results obtained from the CFD analysis show that the implementation of aluminum bronze with a K-type design gives maximum propulsive efficiency of up to 85% and is nearly 12% better than conventional rotors in terms of noise and cavitation formations. The study also revealed that there is an improvement in thrust coefficient by 5%, torque coefficient by 7%, and improvement in efficiency by 10% as the implementation of K-cap propeller in the field of the marine industry. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
