The cell functions and development are regulated by complex networks of genes, proteins and other components by means of their mutual interactions. These networks are called gene regulatory networks (GRNs). GRNs are used to reveal the fundamental gene regulatory mechanisms, to determine the reasons for many diseases and interactions between drugs and their targets. The introduction of experimental technologies such as microarrays, ChIP-chip which combines chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) with microarrays and ChIP-Seq which combines ChIP with DNA sequencing, has provided a large number of available datasets related to gene expression and transcription factors (TFs) and their interactions. These datasets are basis for further analysis to reveal the gene regulation mechanisms. Many models have been applied to represent gene regulatory networks. We have used the dynamic Bayesian network model which is able to cope with missing data and can include a prior knowledge about transcription factors and their activation/inhibition of corresponding genes. We describe the obtained results and survey the common structure learning algorithms for learning of GRN's structure. We tested the obtained GRN for test datasets with different sizes and in the paper describe obtained dependencies between the ratio of Bayesian score and BIC and dataset size. ©2009 IEEE.

Concrete columns with a circular cross-section have been used since a long time ago due to its better performance and advantages in many ways. The value of axial force in circular column is greater than in square column under the equivalent condition. To date, there has been no study that compares CFST behaviour with spiral concrete columns. This study can fill the gaps in comparative studies in between performance of the two types of columns with axial loading on slenderness variations using finite element modelling. Based on the results of the finite element modelling, with the same material capacity the CFST column has a greater resistance to geometric or bending failure with 8.63% than the spiral concrete column. The CFST column has a larger Critical Buckling Load than the spiral. And in general, with the greater the value of L/D or the slenderer the column is designed, the value of the Critical Buckling Load will tend to decrease and this occurs in both types of columns. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Smart homes can be a potential application which provides unobtrusive support for the elderly or disabled that promote independent living. In providing ubiquitous service, specially designed controller is needed. In this paper, a simple gesture based automating controller for various household appliances that includes simple lightings to complex electronic devices is introduced. The system uses the gesture-based recognition system to read messages from the signer and sends command to respective appliances through the household appliances sensing system. A simple server has been constructed to perform simple deterministic algorithm on the received messages to execute matching exercise which in turn triggers specific events. The proposed system offers a new and novel approach in smart home controller system by utilizing gesture as a remote controller. The adapted method of this innovative approach, allows user to flexibly and conveniently control multiple household appliances with simple gestures. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

Big data has emerged very fast, and this has brought both opportunities and problems that are related to the application of deep learning. This paper explores how deep learning can be implemented using big data and in particular the Apache Mahout library. Unlike most other machine learning tools, Mahout can perform distributed computation, especially while using the MapReduce frameworks including Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark. However, this study does not only focus on the explanation of the need for Mahout's integration and employment but also carries out a high-fidelity argument on how deep learning algorithms can be incorporated in the Mahout framework to optimize the manipulation of large and complicated datasets. Mahout-based contributions include the comparative analysis of key deep learning paradigms including distributed processing, parallel processing and transfer learning. This paper also includes examples of the Mahout deep learning integration use and its application in real contexts. This article describes the challenges that currently organizations face in handling big data and indeed, the potential threats these challenges pose to the success of deep learning techniques when used in organizations' big data processing and analysis. © 2024 IEEE.

Fractional-order binary bat algorithm for feature selection on high-dimensional microarray data

High-dimensional microarray data suffer from the confounding effects of irrelevant, redundant and noisy genes on the scalability and efficiency of classification algorithms. In order for an effective dimensionality reduction and the selection of informative genes, this paper introduces a novel approach using fractional calculus concepts. This study proposes a modified version of binary the bat algorithm named fractional-order binary bat algorithm (FBBA) able to control the convergence process using more historical memory of bat behaviors. The gene selection technique contains a two-stage hybrid filter/wrapper method which employs a new correlation-based feature clustering (CFC) algorithm in the filter stage and the FBBA in the wrapper stage. The CFC-FBBA is evaluated on ten microarray gene expression datasets by employing the support vector machine classifier with a k-fold Monte Carlo cross validation data partitioning model. Furthermore, the results show that the CFC-FBBA, while minimizing the size of the gene subset, achieves the highest classification accuracy in most cases compared to several state-of-art hybrid techniques. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Software cost estimation is a crucial aspect of software project management,significantly impacting productivity and *** research investigates the impact of various feature selection techniques on software cost estimation accuracy using the CoCoMo NASA dataset,which comprises data from 93 unique software projects with 24 *** applying multiple machine learning algorithms alongside three feature selection methods,this study aims to reduce data redundancy and enhance model *** findings reveal that the principal component analysis(PCA)-based feature selection technique achieved the highest performance,underscoring the importance of optimal feature selection in improving software cost estimation *** is demonstrated that our proposed method outperforms the existing method while achieving the highest precision,accuracy,and recall rates.

To evaluate performance of a large scale digital system, the system is modeled by stochastic timed petri nets (STPN) and performance index is estimated through iteration of a petri net simulation. When the performance evaluation is carried out in a large distributed environment, parallel calculation with incidence matrices of STPN can make the petri net simulation more efficient. In this paper, we proposed an ordering method of incidence matrices to reduce the communication costs in the parallel calculation of matrix operations. For this purpose, we first proposed a method for blocking the incidence matrices based on a structure of a system by considering synchronous and asynchronous buses as composing elements. We also proposed a method for converting sub-matrices of incidence matrices to band matrices. This method is based on the bread first search of STPN represented by the sub-matrices. Finally, we demonstrated an effect of the ordering on the time for performance evaluation by carrying out the performance evaluation using incidence matrices generated by the proposed method. In addition, we showed that the ordering method could reduce the communication costs in a large distributed environment by estimating the use rate of calculation nodes. © 2014 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

Were analyzed different cybersecurity proposals to protect information, such as models, prototypes, approaches, frameworks, algorithms and evaluations. The problem is the lack of application of cybersecurity to electoral processes in Ecuador. The objective is to make an appropriate cybersecurity model to apply in an electoral process in Ecuador. The quantitative, descriptive, deductive reasoning was used to analyze the reference documents. It turned out a Conceptual Cybersecurity Model, a Cybersecurity Algorithm and a General Risk Formula. It was concluded that the model strengthens information security in the electoral process and asset risk assessment prioritizes the attention of vulnerabilities. © 2019 ACM.
