TSCompiler: efficient compilation framework for dynamic-shape models

Today's deep learning models face an increasing demand to handle dynamic shape tensors and computation whose shape information remains unknown at compile time and varies in a nearly infinite range at runtime. This shape dynamism brings tremendous challenges for existing compilation pipelines designed for static models which optimize tensor programs relying on exact shape values. This paper presents TSCompiler, an end-to-end compilation framework for dynamic shape models. TSCompiler first proposes a symbolic shape propagation algorithm to recover symbolic shape information at compile time to enable subsequent optimizations. TSCompiler then partitions the shape-annotated computation graph into multiple subgraphs and fine-tunes the backbone operators from the subgraph within a hardware-aligned search space to find a collection of high-performance schedules. TSCompiler can propagate the explored backbone schedule to other fusion groups within the same subgraph to generate a set of parameterized tensor programs for fused cases based on dependence analysis. At runtime, TSCompiler utilizes an occupancy-targeted cost model to select from pre-compiled tensor programs for varied tensor shapes. Extensive evaluations show that TSCompiler can achieve state-of-the-art speedups for dynamic shape models. For example, we can improve kernel efficiency by up to 3.97× on NVIDIA RTX3090, and 10.30× on NVIDIA A100 and achieve up to five orders of magnitude speedups on end-to-end latency.

Digital and analog semantic communications (SemCom) face inherent limitations such as data security concerns in analog SemCom, as well as leveling-off and cliff-edge effects in digital SemCom. In order to overcome these challenges, we propose a novel SemCom framework and a corresponding system called HDA-DeepSC, which leverages a hybrid digitalanalog approach for multimedia transmission. This is achieved through the introduction of analog-digital allocation and fusion modules. To strike a balance between data rate and distortion, we design new loss functions that take into account long-distance dependencies in the semantic distortion constraint, essential information recovery in the channel distortion constraint, and optimal bit stream generation in the rate constraint. Additionally, we propose denoising diffusion-based signal detection techniques, which involve carefully designed variance schedules and sampling algorithms to refine transmitted signals. Through extensive numerical experiments, we will demonstrate that HDA-DeepSC exhibits robustness to channel variations and is capable of supporting various communication scenarios. Our proposed framework outperforms existing benchmarks in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio and multi-scale structural similarity, showcasing its superiority in semantic communication quality. © 1983-2012 IEEE.

Detection of Perfect Stealthy Attacks on Cyber-Physical Systems Subject to Measurement Quantizations: A Watermark-Based Strategy

In this paper, the attack detection problem is investigated for a class of closed-loop systems subjected to unknownbutbounded noises in the presence of stealthy attacks. The measurement outputs from the sensors are quantized before transmission.A specific type of perfect stealthy attack, which meets certain rather stringent conditions, is taken into account. Such attacks could be injected by adversaries into both the sensor-toestimator and controller-to-actuator channels, with the aim of disrupting the normal data flow. For the purpose of defending against these perfect stealthy attacks, a novel scheme based on watermarks is developed. This scheme includes the injection of watermarks(applied to data prior to quantization) and the recovery of data(implemented before the data reaches the estimator).The watermark-based scheme is designed to be both timevarying and hidden from adversaries through incorporating a time-varying and bounded watermark signal. Subsequently, a watermark-based attack detection strategy is proposed which thoroughly considers the characteristics of perfect stealthy attacks,thereby ensuring that an alarm is activated upon the occurrence of such attacks. An example is provided to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed mechanism for detecting attacks.

The demand for cloud computing has increased manifold in the recent *** specifically,on-demand computing has seen a rapid rise as organizations rely mostly on cloud service providers for their day-to-day computing *** cloud service provider fulfills different user requirements using virtualization-where a single physical machine can host multiple *** virtualmachine potentially represents a different user environment such as operating system,programming environment,and ***,these cloud services use a large amount of electrical energy and produce greenhouse *** reduce the electricity cost and greenhouse gases,energy efficient algorithms must be *** specific area where energy efficient algorithms are required is virtual machine *** virtualmachine consolidation,the objective is to utilize the minimumpossible number of hosts to accommodate the required virtual machines,keeping in mind the service level agreement *** research work formulates the virtual machine migration as an online problem and develops optimal offline and online algorithms for the single host virtual machine migration problem under a service level agreement constraint for an over-utilized *** online algorithm is analyzed using a competitive analysis *** addition,an experimental analysis of the proposed algorithm on real-world data is conducted to showcase the improved performance of the proposed algorithm against the benchmark *** proposed online algorithm consumed 25%less energy and performed 43%fewer migrations than the benchmark algorithms.

Collaborative Service Provisioning for UAV-Assisted Mobile Edge Computing

Unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)-assisted mobile edge computing(MEC), as a way of coping with delaysensitive and computing-intensive tasks, is considered to be a key technology to solving the challenges of terrestrial MEC networks. In this work, we study the problem of collaborative service provisioning(CSP) for UAV-assisted MEC. Specifically, taking into account the task latency and other resource constraints, this paper investigates how to minimize the total energy consumption of all terrestrial user equipments, by jointly optimizing computing resource allocation, task offloading, UAV trajectory, and service placement. The CSP problem is a non-convex mixed integer nonlinear programming problem, owing to the complex coupling of mixed integral variables and non-convexity of CSP. To address the CSP problem, this paper proposes an alternating optimization-based solution with the convergence guarantee as follows. We iteratively deal with the joint service placement and task offloading subproblem, and UAV movement trajectory subproblem, by branch and bound and successive convex approximation, respectively,while the closed form of the optimal computation resource allocation can be efficiently obtained. Extensive simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm compared to three baselines.

The CWA Benchmark: A Seismic Dataset from Taiwan for Seismic research

In recent years, numerous studies have employed deep learning in seismology, with data-driven neural network models increasingly becoming the norm in emerging research paradigms. Alongside advancements in model architectures, several benchmark datasets have also been introduced. However, many of these datasets suffer from imbalanced distributions, particularly a scarcity of large-magnitude events, which can impair the performance of deep learning-based models. Taiwan, situated in a seismically active region experiences a high frequency of earthquakes annually. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) in Taiwan maintains comprehensive records of these seismic events. This study introduces a benchmark dataset, named CWA, specifically compiled from this extensive database. The CWA benchmark includes 331 events with magnitudes greater than five, collected from a high-density seismic network spanning from 2011 to 2021, making it well-suited for training deep learning models. In addition, the CWA benchmark features over 40 attributes and ∼500,000 seismograms, providing valuable data labels for various seismology-related tasks. © Seismological Society of America.

Among various traffic data modeling and predicting methods, graph learning-based models attract more attention, because of their powerful representation ability for modeling spatial and temporal dependencies with graph neural networks. Despite their promising performance, several key problems have not been well addressed: 1) Sensed data are often noisy in many real transportation scenarios. 2) The spatio-temporal correlations of traffic data are complex and dynamic, especially for long-term modeling and predicting. In such cases, existing methods may not lead to satisfactory prediction results. In this paper, we aim at the above problems by exploring a Spatio-Temporal Heterogeneous Graph Neural Network With Multi-View Learning Framework(MVJGL) for traffic prediction. In particular, we first model different types of traffic features and construct multiple graph structures. Then, we design two parallel heterogeneous gated temporal convolution modules to extract long and short-term temporal dependencies from different traffic features, respectively. Moreover, we introduce parallel graph convolutions to cross-characterize the time-varying spatial dependencies of each view. Extensive experiment results on four real traffic datasets show the superior performance grain obtained by the proposed model. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

sEMG-based Sarcopenia risk classification using empirical mode decomposition and machine learning algorithms

Early detection of the risk of sarcopenia at younger ages is crucial for implementing preventive strategies, fostering healthy muscle development, and minimizing the negative impact of sarcopenia on health and aging. In this study, we propose a novel sarcopenia risk detection technique that combines surface electromyography (sEMG) signals and empirical mode decomposition (EMD) with machine learning algorithms. First, we recorded and preprocessed sEMG data from both healthy and at-risk individuals during various physical activities, including normal walking, fast walking, performing a standard squat, and performing a wide squat. Next, electromyography (EMG) features were extracted from a normalized EMG and its intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) were obtained through EMD. Subsequently, a minimum redundancy maximum relevance (mRMR) feature selection method was employed to identify the most influential subset of features. Finally, the performances of state-of-the-art machine learning (ML) classifiers were evaluated using a leave-one-subject-out cross-validation technique, and the effectiveness of the classifiers for sarcopenia risk classification was assessed through various performance metrics. The proposed method shows a high accuracy, with accuracy rates of 0.88 for normal walking, 0.89 for fast walking, 0.81 for a standard squat, and 0.80 for a wide squat, providing reliable identification of sarcopenia risk during physical activities. Beyond early sarcopenia risk detection, this sEMG-EMD-ML system offers practical values for assessing muscle function, muscle health monitoring, and managing muscle quality for an improved daily life and well-being. © 2024 American Institute of Mathematical sciences.
