In this paper we describe an extension to the MATLAB Phased Array Toolkit that adds a configurable clutter object to model clutter signals returned along a specified signal path. The clutter model is based on the Simkins Unified Clutter Model[1]. The current implementation supports sea clutter in any of five sea states with configurable polarization, grazing angle, and beam width. We describe the implementation and give examples of modeled clutter returns.

Heart wall myofibers wind as helices around the ventricles, strengthening them in a manner analogous to the reinforcement of concrete cylindrical columns by spiral steel cables [Richart FE, et al. (1929) Univ of Illinois, Eng Exp Stn Bull 190]. A multitude of such fibers, arranged smoothly and regularly, contract and relax as an integrated functional unit as the heart beats. To orchestrate this motion, fiber tangling must be avoided and pumping should be efficient. Current models of myofiber orientation across the heart wall suggest groupings into sheets or bands, but the precise geometry of bundles of myofibers is unknown. Here we show that this arrangement takes the form of a special minimal surface, the generalized helicoid [Blair DE, Vanstone JR (1978) Minimal Submanifolds and Geodesics 13-16], closing the gap between individual myofibers and their collective wall structure. The model holds across species, with a smooth variation in its three curvature parameters within the myocardial wall providing tight fits to diffusion magnetic resonance images from the rat, the dog, and the human. Mathematically it explains how myofibers are bundled in the heart wall while economizing fiber length and optimizing ventricular ejection volume as they contract. The generalized helicoid provides a unique foundation for analyzing the fibrous composite of the heart wall and should therefore find applications in heart tissue engineering and in the study of heart muscle diseases. This paper considers the problem of channel reservation schemes for reservation-based MAC protocols with different priorities in wireless communication networks. A framework for designing such channel reservation protocols based on p-persistent is introduced. This framework allows us to explore several different prioritization mechanisms which are devised to serve different prioritization policies or requirements. This leads to the development of five channel reservation schemes, namely, FPT+MP, FPT+MLT, FPT+SCS, FPT+PCP and FPT+HFF. The average number of successful reservations for users of different priorities is evaluated as a primary performance measure. Unlike other previous works where different priorities exhibit strict differentiation, our success ratio (γ) is defined to illustrate how much different priorities are differentiated. In doing so, we seek for a channel reservation scheme that can satisfy the required γ, while maximizing the channel utilization. Numerical results show that the combined scheme of FPT+MP and FPT+SCS schemes is the most effective scheme, possessing all desirable key features.

In general, Telemedicine refers to the use of information and communication technology to provide health care facilities and support patients in remote area by providing expert consultation. It is also a way to provide medical procedures to remote locations at the time of emergency. Telemedicine can be considered as a way to improve the quality of health care services. It can be implemented to ensure the access to health care services lowering the costs and saving time as well. Many developing countries are implementing telemedicine to provide health care facility to remote area where health care facilities are poor. As a developing country Bangladesh cannot provide all the health care services to its rural people with its limited resources. Implementing a nationwide telemedicine network will help Bangladesh to support its rural population by providing quality health services. In this paper we mention some important factors which are related to implement Telemedicine system in a developing country like Bangladesh. We also propose a prototype portable telemedicine system for rural Bangladesh that can improve health care facilities of the rural people by making a connection between rural people and specialised hospitals in the capital or in a distant location.

This paper presents a solution to the problem of intruder detection applied to control the access to safety-critical infrastructures. The system under consideration exploits the measurements of a radar and some Unattended Ground Sensors (UGS) by means of a multi-sensor multi-target tracking algorithm. Several experiments in real environments validate our proposal showing good results.
