This paper aims at performance analysis of MEMO-OFDM system using Space Time Turbo Coding and adaptive beamforming. computer simulations investigate the BER performance of the Space Time Turbo Coded MEVIO-OFDM system. The system model has been tested for BPSK, QPSK, 16 PSK, 256 PSK modulations with an AWGN channel, Rayleigh fading channel and Rician fading channel using LMS and LLMS beamforming algorithms. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method not only has good ability of suppressing interference, but also significantly improves the bit-error rate (BER) performance of MEVIO-OFDM system.

Chromosomal aberrations and somatic mutations constitute key elements of the pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), a clonal hematologic malignancy characterized by cytopenias, a dysplastic bone marrow and propensity to clonal evolution. Next generation sequencing (NGS) enables definition of somatic mutational patterns and clonal architecture as a discovery platform, and for clinical *** systematically applied NGS to 707 cases of MDS and MDS-related disorders. 205 cases (low-risk MDS: N=78, high-risk MDS: N=42, MDS/MPN: N=48 and sAML: N=37) were tested by whole exome sequencing (WES). For validation in an additional 502 patients (low-risk MDS: N=192, high-risk MDS: N=104, MDS/MPN: N=111 and sAML: N=95), targeted deep NGS was applied for 60 index genes which were most commonly affected in the cohort analyzed by WES. For NGS data analysis a statistical pipeline was developed to focus on: i) identification of the most relevant somatic mutations, and ii) minimization of false positive results. We studied serial samples from 21 exemplary informative patients. We also compared somatic mutational patterns to those seen in primary AML TCGA cohort (N=201). Given the size of the cohort, there was, for example, a 87% chance of seeing mutations at a frequency of 1% and a 98% of seeing those with a frequency of 2%. While focusing on the most common events, we observed 1117 somatic mutations in 199 genes. The 88 genes mutated mutated in >1% of cases with MDS carried 388 mutations in MDS+sAML (2.5/case), 128 in MDS/MPN (2.7/case) and 398 in pAML (2.0/case). The average number of mutations per case increased during progression (2.2 in lower-risk, 2.8 in higher-risk MDS, 3.4 in sAML). In MDS, the 30 most frequently affected genes were present at least once in 70% of patients. The 30 most frequently mutated genes in MDS/MPN were mutated in 82% of patients. We characterize the impact of the Cell Broadband Engine architecture, on commonly used radar DSP algorithms. We use the capabilities of the CBE to accelerate several key computational kernels including Matrix Multiplication, Matrix Inversion, and the Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter. These algorithms are implemented and benchmarked as library routines within the X-Midas Toolkit. We observe speedups as large as 1200x for complex matrix multiplication, but speedups of 40x to 60x are more typical. We find that system I/O overhead within the X-Midas toolkit severely limited the performance of the applications.

Artificial bee colony (ABC) is an optimization algorithm inspired on the intelligent behavior of honey bee swarms. It is suitable to be applied when mathematical techniques are impractical or provide suboptimal solutions. As a population-based algorithm, the ABC suffers on large execution times specifically for embedded optimization problems with computational limitations. For that we propose a hardware parallel architecture of the opposition-based ABC algorithm (HPOABC) that facilitates the implementation in Field programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). Numerical simulations using four well-known benchmark problems demonstrate that the opposition-based approach allows the algorithm to improve its functionality, preserving the swarm diversity. Additionally, synthesis results point outs that the HPOABC architecture is effectively mapped in hardware and is suitable for embedded applications. © 2012 IEEE.

Visualizing and exploring a hierarchical structure on a smartphone screen is challenging. On larger screens of PCs and laptops these types of structures are often shown in a tabular view. Due to the width restriction, tabular view is not feasible on smaller screens. This paper presents a visualization technique that displays multiple levels of a hierarchical structure on a single view for small screens and allows users to explore the structure rapidly through touch input. The visualization technique makes full use of the available space and distributes the space fairly among nodes. The system allows selection and display of relevant information based on user query or user habit, while hiding less important items from the view.

In recent years there has been a growing trend in the application of Memetic Algorithms for solving numerical optimization problems. They are population based search heuristics that integrate the benefits of natural and cultural evolution. In this paper, we propose an Adaptive Memetic Algorithm, named LA-DE which employs a competitive variant of Differential Evolution for global search and Learning Automata as the local search technique. During evolution Stochastic Automata Learning helps to balance the exploration and exploitation capabilities of DE resulting in local refinement. The proposed algorithm has been evaluated on a test-suite of 25 benchmark functions provided by CEC 2005 special session on real parameter optimization. Experimental results indicate that LA-DE outperforms several existing DE variants in terms of solution quality.

An approach for image segmentation based on visual saliency is proposed in this paper. First lowlevel visual features of the image are extracted. Local saliency, global saliency and rarity saliency are computed for each feature figure to get the feature conspicuity figures. Then these conspicuity figures are integrated to generate the saliency figure. The saliency figure is segmented using a threshold and a binary mask figure is obtained. Finally the foreground and background of the original image are separated by adding the binary figure to the original image. The proposed model has been tested on many natural images. Experimental results show that the proposed approach is valid and the segmentation results are consistent with human visual system.

Marine robots are an increasingly attractive means for observing and monitoring the ocean, but underwater acoustic communications remain a major challenge. The channel exhibits long delay spreads with frequency-dependent attenuation;moreover, it is time-varying. We consider the minimum energy wireless transmission problem [MET], augmented by the practical condition that constraints on link power must be satisfied in probability. For this, we formulate the robust counterpart of the multicommodity mixed-integer linear programming (MDLP) model from Haugland and Yuan [1], and derive scaled power levels that account for uncertainty. Our main result is that the deterministic formulation with these scaled power levels recovers exactly the optimal robust solution in the absence of correlations, and therefore allows for efficient solution via MILP. This approach achieves significant power improvements over heuristics, and naturally lends itself to vehicle networks.

This paper deals with the statistical modeling of uplink inter-cell interference (ICI) considering greedy scheduling with power adaptation based on channel conditions. The derived model is implicitly generalized for any kind of shadowing and fading environments. More precisely, we develop a generic model for the distribution of ICI based on the locations of the allocated users and their transmit powers. The derived model is utilized to evaluate important network performance metrics such as ergodic capacity, average fairness and average power preservation numerically. Monte-Carlo simulation details are included to support the analysis and show the accuracy of the derived expressions. In parallel to the literature, we show that greedy scheduling with power adaptation reduces the ICI, average power consumption of users, and enhances the average fairness among users, compared to the case without power adaptation.

Digital subcarrier cross-connect (DSXC) is a circuit switching node which offers bandwidth flexibility, improved transmission performance, and electric power efficiency in transport networks. In contrast to the time division multiplexing-based optical transport network (OTN) architectures, DSXC makes use of frequency division multiplexing to perform cross-connection operation of individual subcarrier channels, which can be established to provide end-to-end dedicated circuits with flexible data rates between edge node pairs. By leveraging digital subcarrier multiplexing (DSCM), spectral guard-bands between adjacent channels are not necessary in DSXC, thus yielding good bandwidth efficiency when multiplexing subcarrier channels onto the same wavelength. In addition, digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms can be implemented to perform compensation of fiber transmission impairments in the electronic domain, thus ensuring good signal integrity. As discussed in this paper, the power consumption needed by DSXC to perform subcarrier channel cross-connection operations is estimated to be approximately one third of that required by today's OTN digital cross-connects. As illustrated in a companion paper [1] multiple DSXCs can be arranged together to build digital subcarrier optical networks (DSONs), which is a promising energy efficient alternative to currently available transport network solutions, e.g., OTN/SONET/SDH/MPLS-TP. This paper introduces the concept, the basic building blocks and the key functionalities of DSXC.
