The synthesis and second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of a new family of optically nonlinear coumarin dye-containing polymers is reported. Polymerizable coumaromethacrylate (CMA) monomers having various alkyl spacers (C2 to C5) between the polymerizable group and the chromophore were prepared and copolymerized with methylmethacrylate (MMA) and other vinyl monomers. The CMA copolymers had high chromophoric content (up to 18 × 1020) and glass transitions as high as 132°C. Spin cast films were prepared on BK7 substrates and oriented by corona-onset poling at elevated temperatures (COPET). The poled CMA copolymer films were characterized for spectroscopic absorption and second harmonic properties. A comparison of the nonlinear optical properties of poled CMA-MMA copolymers to poled guest-host systems is made. Relative to guest/host systems, CMA-MMA copolymer films exhibit larger and much more stable second-order nonlinear optical properties.

A new multiuser scheduling scheme is proposed and analyzed in this paper. The proposed system combines features of conventional full-feedback selection-based diversity systems and reduced-feedback switch-based diversity systems. The new hybrid system provides flexibility in trading-off the channel information feedback overhead with the prospected multiuser diversity gains. The users are clustered into groups, and the users' groups are ordered into a sequence. Per-group feedback thresholds are used and optimized to maximize the system overall achievable rate. The proposed hybrid system applies switched diversity criterion to choose one of the groups, and a selection criterion to decide the user to be scheduled from the chosen group. Numerical results demonstrate that the system capacity increases as the number of users per group increases, but at the cost of more required feedback messages.

This paper presents a framework, aiming to develop the mass customization for textile and apparel industries in Thailand. The developed model as presented is the relationship of the connection pertaining to customers’ needs at industrial levels, most of which are Original Design Manufacturer (OEM), a type of textile and apparel business. The outstanding of OEM is the presentation of newly created designs to customers with a variety of products. Importantly, in order to gain such effective production management, an appropriate administrative system with high flexibility, efficient production (Small Lot Size), and punctual delivery is crucially required. This paper addresses the clinically challenging problem of hairline mandibular fracture detection from a sequence of Computed Tomography (CT) images. A hairline fracture of critical clinical importance, can be easily missed due to the absence of sharp surface and contour discontinuities and the presence of intensity inhomogeneity in the CT image, if not scrutinized carefully. In this work, the 2D CT image slices displaying a mandible with hairline fractures are first identified within an input CT image sequence of a fractured craniofacial skeleton. This is achieved via an intensity-based image retrieval scheme using Kolmogorov-Smirnov distance as the measure of similarity and an unbroken mandible as the reference image. Since a hairline fracture is essentially a discontinuity in the bone contour, we model it as a minimum cut in an appropriately weighted flow network. The existing graph cut-based segmentation schemes are enhanced with a novel construction of the flow network, guided by the geometry of the human mandible. The Edmonds-Karp refinement of the classical Ford-Fulkerson algorithm is employed next to obtain a minimum cut, which represents the hairline fracture in the already identified CT image slices. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The effects of the isoelectronic Al-doping of GaN grown by metal organic chemical vapor deposition were investigated for the first time using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Hall measurements, photoluminescence (PL), and time-resolved PL. When a certain amount of Al was incorporated into the GaN films, the room temperature photoluminescence intensity of the films was approximately two orders larger than that of the undoped GaN. More importantly, the electron mobility significantly increased from 130 for the undoped sample to 500 cm2/Vs for the sample grown at a TMAl flow rate of 10 ?mol/min, while the unintentional background concentration only increased slightly relative to the TMAl flow. The incorporation of Al as an isoelectronic dopant into GaN was easy during MOCVD growth and significantly improved the optical and electrical properties of the film. This was believed to result from a reduction in the dislocation-related non-radiative recombination centers or certain other defects due to the isoelectronic Al-doping.
