Material informatics-driven insights into brain cancer nanocarriers: A bibliometric comparison of PLGA vs. liposomes

This study explores a comparative analysis of PLGA nanoparticles and liposomes as potential carriers for brain cancer drug delivery, with a special focus on how material informatics enhances their design, biocompatibility, and drug release profiles to improve treatment efficacy and contribute to sustainable health outcomes. The investigation employed a bibliometric analysis using Scopus and VOSviewer to uncover the role of material informatics in optimizing these nanocarriers. The analysis revealed that material informatics, particularly through the application of machine learning and molecular dynamics simulations, significantly optimizes the performance of both PLGA nanoparticles and liposomes. The results highlighted distinct strengths of each nanocarrier: PLGA nanoparticles excel in biodegradability, while liposomes offer superior drug encapsulation capabilities. However, material informatics techniques bridged these enhancing drug release kinetics, stability, and biocompatibility. These improvements are crucial for effective delivery across the blood-brain barrier, a major challenge in brain cancer treatment. The integration of computational modelling, machine learning, and high-throughput screening enabled by material informatics is shown to be a key factor in advancing the design and optimization of these nanocarriers. By leveraging these tools, researchers can develop more personalized and efficient drug delivery systems tailored to address the specific challenges of glioblastoma therapy, ultimately contributing to sustainable health outcomes © 2024 The Author(s)

A semi-analytical finite element method(SAFEM),based on the two-scale asymptotic homogenization method(AHM)and the finite element method(FEM),is implemented to obtain the effective properties of two-phase fiber-reinforced composites(FRCs).The fibers are periodically distributed and unidirectionally aligned in a homogeneous *** framework addresses the static linear elastic micropolar problem through partial differential equations,subject to boundary conditions and perfect interface contact *** mathematical formulation of the local problems and the effective coefficients are presented by the *** local problems obtained from the AHM are solved by the FEM,which is denoted as the *** numerical results are provided,and the accuracy of the solutions is analyzed,indicating that the formulas and results obtained with the SAFEM may serve as the reference points for validating the outcomes of experimental and numerical computations.

In the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics, autonomous object manipulation has emerged as a pivotal research domain, finding applications in sectors as diverse as manufacturing and healthcare. While significant strides have been made in object identification, trajectory planning, and manipulation tasks, these advancements often fall short in real-world, dynamic settings, revealing a critical research gap in algorithmic adaptability and computational efficiency. This paper addresses the gap by applying YOLOv4, a state-of-the-art object detection AI algorithm, within the context of the RoboCup Autonomous Robot Manipulation (ARM) Challenge - a competitive platform designed to simulate real-world complexities in autonomous systems. The research objectives are twofold: firstly, the performance of YOLOv4 in object detection and classification under dynamically changing conditions is rigorously evaluated, employing varied training strategies in both simulated and real-world scenarios. Secondly, the robustness and adaptability of the algorithm in object manipulation tasks are scrutinized and facilitated by the real-world dynamics inherent to the competition. Empirical results demonstrate the algorithm's high accuracy, efficiency, and robustness in dynamic environments, substantiating its broader applicability in the development of autonomous systems. © 2023 IEEE.

Circular dichroism(CD)spectroscopy has been widely demonstrated for detecting chiral ***,the determination of chiral mixtures with various concentrations and enantiomeric ratios can be a challenging *** solve this problem,we report an enhanced vibrational circular dichroism(VCD)sensing platform based on plasmonic chiral metamaterials,which presents a 6-magnitude signal enhancement with a selectivity of chiral *** by coupled-mode theory,we leverage both in-plane and out-of-plane symmetry-breaking structures for chiral metamaterial design enabled by a two-step lithography process,which increases the near-field coupling strengths and varies the ratio between absorption and radiation loss,resulting in improved chiral light-matter interaction and enhanced molecular VCD ***,we demonstrate the thin-film sensing process of BSA andβ-lactoglobulin proteins,which contain secondary structures a-helix andβ-sheet and achieve a limit of detection down to zeptomole ***,we also,for the first time,explore the potential of enhanced VCD spectroscopy by demonstrating a selective sensing process of chiral mixtures,where the mixing ratio can be successfully differentiated with our proposed chiral *** findings improve the sensing signal of molecules and expand the extractable information,paving the way toward label-free,compact,small-volume chiral molecule detection for stereochemical and clinical diagnosisapplications.

Innovative safety in the workplace is vital as the high safety risks associated with electrical engineering construction can lead to injuries or even fatalities. Using computer vision technology, we experimented with scenarios such as 'normal operations' and 'unexpected incidents' to enhance safety measures. We integrated an Internet of Things system into the setup, enabling the system to quickly detect and alert to unexpected events in real-time, thereby improving workplace safety. © 2024 IEEE.

Fantasy Sports has a current market size of ${\$}$27B and is expected to grow more than ${\$}$84B in less than a decade. The intent is to create virtual teams that somehow reflect what would happen if the constituent players actually played in a team. Using individual player and team statistics, models can be trained to predict an outcome. But fans are left wanting more. To achieve a more realistic outcome, aspects of what makes live teams win need to be included: (1) transforming player statistics to reflect their relative importance with respect to a player position;(2) team chemistry (TC). In this work, we show a novel characterization of relative position statistics and a new description of TC. Drawn from the NBA's API, we form a data set to determine whether a fantasy team makes the playoffs using almost two dozen features, including TC. Various Machine Learning models are trained on this data and the best-performing model is offered to the users through a web service. Users can not only inspect fantasy teams and their TC but can also simulate their match-ups with existing 2023 NBA teams and utilize performance visualizations to help improve their team creation process. Most group activity recognition models focus mainly on spatio-temporal features from the players in sports games. Often they do not pay enough attention to the game object, which heavily affects not only individual action but also a group activity. We propose a new group activity recognition model for sports games that incorporates players' motion information and game object positional information. The proposed method uses a transformer encoder for temporal feature extraction and a 'simple' conventional convolutional neural network for extracting spatial features and fusing them with the relative ball position-embedded features. The experimental results show that our model achieved comparable results to state-of-the-art methods on the Volleyball dataset by using only one transformer encoder block and the ball position. © 2022 The authors and IOS Press.

This work discusses the nonlinear modeling of healthy and cancer cell population growth under the influence of radiotherapy, and proposes predictive control techniques to determine the optimal dose for tumor control, while sparing surrounding healthy tissue. Radiation effects are modelled by a linear-quadratic formalism, coupled with a novel population-specific delayed dose response. Numerical simulations of the open- and closed-loop system are conducted, and robustness against model uncertainty is studied. Results illustrate the controller’s performance when dealing with imperfect information and unexpected system behavior, and how it can be tuned to produce the desired treatment outcome. However, optimal operation is conditioned by a limited prediction horizon, as well as strict adherence to treatment schedules and dose restrictions. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2024.

The rise of global temperatures, over the past few decades, has disrupted the usual balance of nature. As a result of increasing temperatures, wildfires have destroyed millions of acres of land, thousands of structures, and homes. The pollution and toxic gases produced by the wildfires are carried out to thousands of miles, thus threatening the lives all around the world. Most wildfires occur due to anthropogenic factors, which cannot be predicted solely based on climate conditions. Henceforth, to detect wildfires before escalating, we propose iDrone, which is a wildfire detection system equipped with an end-to-end CNN image classification model: XtinguishNet, trained on a wildfire imagery dataset to detect the possible flames or smokes in an image. In addition, our approach also acquires the weather data and the intensity of the fire. Contrasting with existing wildfire detection systems, our proposed solution is a fusion of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Deep Learning, aiming to provide a one-stop solution for all the needs required to minimize the damage caused by wildfires. When validated and tested using various benchmark datasets, video surveillance, iDrone acquired a high accuracy of 98.36% with the least computational power. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
