TOI-2015 is a known exoplanetary system around an M4 dwarf star, consisting of a transiting sub-Neptune planet in a 3.35-day orbital period, TOI-2015 b, accompanied by a non-transiting companion, TOI-2015 c. High-precision radial-velocity measurements were taken with the MAROON-X spectrograph, and high-precision photometric data were collected, primarily using the SPeCULOOS, MUSCAT, TRAPPIST and LCOGT networks. We collected 63 transit light curves and 49 different transit epochs for TOI-2015 b. We recharacterized the target star by combining optical spectra obtained by the MAROON-X, Shane/KAST and IRTF/SpeX spectrographs, Bayesian model averaging (BMA) and spectral energy distribution (SeD) analysis. The TOI-2015 host star is a K = 10.3 mag M4-type dwarf with a subsolar metallicity of [Fe/H] =-0.31 ± 0.16, and an effective temperature of Teff ≈ 3200 K. Our photodynamical analysis of the system strongly favors the 5:3 mean-motion resonance and in this scenario the planet b (TOI-2015 b) has an orbital period of Pb = 3.34 days, a mass of Mp = 9.02-0.36+0.32M⊕, and a radius of Rp = 3.309-0.011+0.013R⊕, resulting in a density of ρp = 0.25 ± 0.01 ρ⊕ = 1.40 ± 0.06 g cm-3;this is indicative of a Neptune-like composition. Its transits exhibit large (> 1 hr) timing variations characteristic of an outer perturber in the system. We performed a global analysis of the high-resolution radial-velocity measurements, the photometric data, and the TTVs, and inferred that TOI-2015 hosts a second planet, TOI-2015 c, in a non-transiting configuration. Our analysis places it near a 5:3 resonance with an orbital period of Pc = 5.583 days and a mass of Mp = 8.91-0.40+0.38M⊕. The dynamical configuration of TOI-2015 b and TOI-2015 c can be used to constrain the system's planetary formation and migration history. We present Open Review, a web-based platform aimed at stimulating executable papers by means of post-publication peer-review. Its goal is to bring computer science researchers to collaboratively build their work upon previous research results, in such a way that transparency, reproducibility and sustainability of research results are greatly improved. The main design goals of the platform are clarity, conciseness, and reproducibility. Its main features are to: (i) provide incentives for making research communities to participate, (ii) make papers executable by means of boards’ annotations, without necessarily involving the authors of an article, and (iii) give snapshots of the current research state on any given article.

We consider a problem of quantitative static elastography, the estimation of the Lamé parameters from internal displacement field data. This problem is formulated as a nonlinear operator equation. To solve this equation, we investigate the Landweber iteration both analytically and numerically. The main result of this paper is the verification of a nonlinearity condition in an infinite dimensional Hilbert space context. This condition guarantees convergence of iterative regularization methods. In this paper we present a new antithetic multilevel Monte Carlo (MLMC) method for the estimation of expectations with respect to laws of diffusion processes that can be elliptic or hypo-elliptic. In particular, we consider the case where one has to resort to time discretization of the diffusion and numerical simulation of such schemes. Motivated by recent developments, we introduce a new MLMC estimator of expectations, which does not require simulation of intractable Lévy areas but has a weak error of order 2 and achieves the optimal computational complexity. We then show how this approach can be used in the context of the filtering problem associated to partially observed diffusions with discrete time observations. We illustrate with numerical simulations that our new approaches provide efficiency gains for several problems relative to some existing methods. © 2024, CC BY.

This paper considers the reconstruction problem in Acousto-electrical Tomography, i.e., the problem of estimating a spatially varying conductivity in a bounded domain from measurements of the internal power densities resulting from different prescribed boundary conditions. Particular emphasis is placed on the limited angle scenario, in which the boundary conditions are supported only on a part of the boundary. The reconstruction problem is formulated as an optimization problem in a Hilbert space setting and solved using Landweber iteration. The resulting algorithm is implemented numerically in two spatial dimensions and tested on simulated data. The results quantify the intuition that features close to the measurement boundary are stably reconstructed and features further away are less well reconstructed. We study the problem of unbiased estimation of expectations with respect to (w.r.t.) π a given, general probability measure on (Rd,B(Rd)) that is absolutely continuous with respect to a standard Gaussian measure. We focus on simulation associated to a particular class of diffusion processes, sometimes termed the Schrödinger-Föllmer Sampler, which is a simulation technique that approximates the law of a particular diffusion bridge process {Xt}t∈[0,1] on Rd, d ∈ N0. This latter process is constructed such that, starting at X0 = 0, one has X1 ∼ π. Typically, the drift of the diffusion is intractable and, even if it were not, exact sampling of the associated diffusion is not possible. As a result, [10, 15] consider a stochastic euler-Maruyama scheme that allows the development of biased estimators for expectations w.r.t. π. We show that for this methodology to achieve a mean square error of O(Ε2), for arbitrary Ε > 0, the associated cost is O(Ε−5). We then introduce an alternative approach that provides unbiased estimates of expectations w.r.t. π, that is, it does not suffer from the time discretization bias or the bias related with the approximation of the drift function. We prove that to achieve a mean square error of O(Ε2), the associated cost is, with high probability, O(Ε−2|log(Ε)|2+δ), for any δ > 0. Sequential Markov Chain Monte Carlo for Lagrangian Data Assimilation with Applications to Unknown Data Locations

We consider a class of high-dimensional spatial filtering problems, where the spatial locations of observations are unknown and driven by the partially observed hidden signal. This problem is exceptionally challenging as not only is high-dimensional, but the model for the signal yields longer-range time dependencies through the observation locations. Motivated by this model we revisit a lesser-known and provably convergent computational methodology from [4, 11, 28] that uses sequential Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) chains. We extend this methodology for data filtering problems with unknown observation locations. We benchmark our algorithms on Linear Gaussian state space models against competing ensemble methods and demonstrate a significant improvement in both execution speed and accuracy. Finally, we implement a realistic case study on a high-dimensional rotating shallow water model (of about 104 - 105 dimensions) with real and synthetic data. Committed minorities are suggested to be responsible for the emergence of collective behaviors in many physical, social, and biological systems. Using evolutionary game theory, we address the question whether a finite fraction of zealots can drive the system to large-scale coordination. We find that a tipping point exists in coordination games, whereas the same phenomenon depends on the selection pressure, update rule, and network structure in other types of games. Our study paves the way to understand social systems driven by the individuals' benefit in the presence of zealots, such as human vaccination behavior or cooperative transports in animal groups.
