The skin acts as an important barrier between the body and the external environment, playing a vital role as an organ. The application of deep learning in the medical field to solve various health problems has generated increasing interest. The objective of this research is to create a new model using a deep network with multi-feature fusion that enables accurate identification of various skin diseases. This paper proposes a fully fused network (FFN), which includes an improved single block (ISB) and an improved fusion block (IFB) to achieve optimal performance. To implement this, a convolutional neural network-based model for multi-class recognition of skin images has been developed, in which ISB is used to segment diseases in skin images. The IFB module is designed to enhance the effectiveness of the fused network. The model is built and evaluated using our proprietary dataset (Skin_disease_v1) along with publicly available datasets, namely ISIC2016, ISIC2017, and HAM10000. The highest accuracy achieved in experiments was 86% for ISB, 90% for IFB, and 92% for FFN using HAM10000 (for ResNet101V2), HAM10000 (for Resnet50 + ResNet101V2), and HAM10000 (for Resnet50 + ResNet101V2). This shows an accuracy improvement of 9.2%, 13.2%, and 15.2% compared to the state-of-the-art ISB, IFB, and FFN approaches, respectively. Gas and biosensors are crucial in the modern healthcare system, enabling non-invasive monitoring and diagnosis of various medical conditions. These sensors are used in various applications, including smart home health monitoring devices and critical care units. Common non-imaging sensor types include gas or VOC sensors, diagnostic ECG sensors, blood glucose sensors, pulse oximeters, blood pressure sensors, body temperature sensors, EEG sensors, accelerometers, and imaging sensors like X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, and ultrasounds. Healthcare-related sensors offer numerous advantages, including diagnosing and treating medical conditions, monitoring vital signs, enabling remote patient monitoring, personalized healthcare, and early detection and prevention. However, issues like data accessibility, privacy, comfort, security, and accuracy must be considered when installing sensors in homes. Efficient data sharing and analysis require devices, sensors, and platforms to communicate effectively. Real-time data processing is essential for prompt diagnosis and intervention. In this article, we have put it briefly: medical sensors are transforming the way we track, identify, and manage adverse health conditions. © 2024 IEEE.

With the increase of energy consumption worldwide in several domains such as industry,education,and transportation,several technologies played an inﬂuential role in energy conservation such as the Internet of Things(IoT).In this article,we describe the design and implementation of an IoT-based energy conser-vation smart classroom system that contributes to energy conservation in the edu-cation *** proposed system not only allows the user to access and control IoT devices(e.g.,lights,projectors,and air conditions)in real-time,it also has the capability to aggregate the estimated energy consumption of an IoT device,the smart classroom,and the building based on the energy consumption and cost model that we ***,the proposed model aggregates the estimated energy cost according to the Saudi Electricity Company(SEC)***,the model aggregates in real-time the estimated energy conservation percentage and estimated money-saving percentage compared to data collected when the system wasn't *** feasibility and beneﬁts of our system have been validated on a real-world scenario which is a classroom in the college of computer science and engineering,Taibah University,Yanbu *** results of the experimental studies are promising in energy conservation and cost-saving when using our proposed system.

Enhancing patient-independent detection of freezing of gait in Parkinson’s disease with deep adversarial network

Freezing of gait (FoG) refers to sudden, relatively brief episodes of gait arrest in Parkinson’s disease, known to manifest in the advanced stages of the condition. Events of freezing are associated with tumbles, traumas, and psychological repercussions, significantly impacting the patient’s quality of life. The use of accelerometer data derived from sensors put on a patient’s body to detect FoG has previously been proposed using convolutional neural network (CNN)-based deep learning algorithms. Here, we combine a CNN + Long short-term Memory (LSTM)-attention model to detect FoG episodes—a first for the detection of FoG using the accelerometer data. CNN facilitates automatic feature extraction from the accelerometer data itself. The output from the CNN is fed to the LSTM network, which is known for capturing sequential information. Further, the attention mechanism introduces relative focus on individual sub-sequences during the training of the LSTM network. The proposed model is made patient independent using adversarial training. The proposed model achieved improvements of +7.60% (without adversarial training) and + 8.36% (with adversarial training) in the sensitivity values over state of the art. This is obtained with little or no compromise in specificity values. The corresponding improvements in accuracy values are +3.81 and +2.23%, respectively. These findings imply that the proposed method can detect FoG gaits satisfactorily and can be effective in achieving accurate monitoring and gait assistance for Parkinson’s disease patients during daily life and rehabilitation therapy. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

Video forgery is one of the most serious problems affecting the credibility and reliability of video content. Therefore, detecting video forgery presents a major challenge for researchers due to the diversity of forgery types, the modernity of the programs used in forgery operations, and the abundance of information and content present in videos. The seriousness of this issue arises from the widespread use of videos in vital fields that require very high accuracy with no room for doubt or error, such as courtrooms, journalism, and others. Copy-move forgery is one of the most common and dangerous types of video forgery because of the difficulty in identifying it with the naked eye and the great diversity of forgery techniques involved in this particular type. One of the biggest challenges researchers have faced in the past is the complexity of the steps required to detect forgery in videos, leading to significant computational complexity and time consumption. The proposed method also aims to achieve better results than previous methods while reducing computational operations. Ultimately, forgery is detected with great efficiency. Compared to previous methods used for detecting copy-move forgery in the Rewind dataset, the proposed method achieves the highest F1, reaching 0.86, with a significant difference of 0.13 compared to the best result of the previous methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

Stress is a problem with various adverse effects, such as mental disorders and suicide. With these problems arising, a stress detection system is needed as an initial examination of the level of stress experienced. Generally, stress detection is done with a stress test at a hospital. However, medical examinations done in the hospital require high costs. Another alternative to examine stress levels is by using a biosignal electroencephalogram (EEG), which provides more objective and accurate results. In addition, there is a need to develop a portable device that can be used to detect stress. This study tries to detect stress levels using EEG Signals. The data used in this study is primary data that simulates several stress-level activities. In total, 55 subjects participated in this stress detection research. The received signal goes through preprocessing to clean it from noise and artifacts. The data will be extracted using Power Spectral Density (PSD) into power value for each signal frequency. The preprocessed input signals are then classified into indications of stress levels. This study uses Random Forest, SVM, and Decision Tree. The model is stored on a portable system with Raspberry Pi as the main component. EEG signals are taken using electrodes on Muse 2 and sent to the system. The classification model generates predicted stress levels and is displayed on a 16×2 LCD. SVM as the best model test result achieved a testing accuracy of 1, and an average computation time of 0.92. © 2024 IEEE.

An image can convey a thousand words. This statement emphasizes the importance of illustrating ideas visually rather than writing them down. Although detailed image representation is typically instructive, there are several contexts where simplification of image representations may be more informative. One way to provide an abstract representation of an object is via clip art, which is a simple graphic illustration of an object that can be included in documents or presentations. Clip art representation can be utilized in graphic design for concepts expression and daily life objects illustration. Furthermore, clip art had shown remarkable advantages when compared to real images in terms of editing and manipulation since clip art geometry can be easily edited in addition to the feasibility of storing it in a resolution-independent manner. However, it can be difficult to automatically create clip arts that resemble any object. Here, we propose a novel deep learning model, named ClipArtGAN, that utilizes Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to convert a photo of an object to its corresponding clip art. To our knowledge, this is the first GAN model based on Pix2Pix architecture that is capable of automatically generating clip art for any arbitrary object. Three training datasets were collected to train and compare two GAN models based on Pix2Pix and CycleGAN architectures. Our results demonstrate that the mean accuracy obtained using ClipArtGAN utilizing Pix2Pix outperforms that of CycleGAN by 58% and that of Google Images-based search by 54%. Lightweight and privacy-preserving device-to-device authentication to enable secure transitive communication in IoT-based smart healthcare systems

Internet of Things (IoT) devices are often directly authenticated by the gateways within the network. In complex and large systems, IoT devices may be connected to the gateway through another device in the network. In such a scenario, new device should be authenticated with the gateway through the intermediate device. To address this issue, an authentication process is proposed in this paper for IoT-enabled healthcare systems. This approach performs a privacy-preserving mutual authentication between the gateway and an IoT device through intermediate devices, which are already authenticated by the gateway. The proposed approach relies on the session key established during gateway-intermediate device authentication. To emphasizes lightweight and efficient system, the proposed approach employs lightweight cryptographic operations, such as XOR, concatenation, and hash functions within IoT networks. This approach goes beyond the traditional device-to-device authentication, allowing authentication to propagate across multiple devices or nodes in the network. The proposed work establishes a secure session between an authorized device and a gateway, preventing unauthorized devices from accessing healthcare systems. The security of the protocol is validated through a thorough analysis using the AVISPA tool, and its performance is evaluated against existing schemes, demonstrating significantly lower communication and computation costs. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.
