This research paper introduces a sophisticated arm movement tracking system, leveraging a multi-sensor fusion approach for enhanced precision and versatility. The comprehensive system comprises various components, including a dedicated cabinet, six Leap Motion sensors, six microcomputers, a Kinect depth camera, a KVM switcher, a router, and flex sensors. In addition to the aforementioned components, the integration of flex sensors enhances the system's capability to capture nuanced movements and gestures of the human arm. Flex sensors contribute valuable data to the multi-sensor fusion, further refining the arm movement tracking and providing a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies involved. By quantifying the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) for each filtering technique, including the data from flex sensors, we gained valuable insights into the accuracy and precision achieved by Particle Filtering in refining data from the specified angles. This approach ensures a thorough validation of Particle Filtering's superior performance when compared to Existing filtering Methods. The systematic evaluation of RMSE serves as a robust method for assessing the effectiveness of Particle Filtering, affirming its potential as a high-performing solution for precise angle estimation and tracking within the context of the presented arm movement tracking system that incorporates flex sensors.

XAI refers to the techniques and methods for building AI applications which assist end users to interpret output and predictions of AI models. Black box AI applications in high-stakes decision-making situations, such as medical domain have increased the demand for transparency and explainability since wrong predictions may have severe consequences. Model explainability and interpretability are vital successful deployment of AI models in healthcare practices. AI applications' underlying reasoning needs to be transparent to clinicians in order to gain their trust. This paper presents a systematic review of XAI aspects and challenges in the healthcare domain. The primary goals of this study are to review various XAI methods, their challenges, and related machine learning models in healthcare. The methods are discussed under six categories: Features-oriented methods, global methods, concept models, surrogate models, local pixel-based methods, and human-centric methods. Most importantly, the paper explores XAI role in healthcare problems to clarify its necessity in safety-critical applications. The paper intends to establish a comprehensive understanding of XAI-related applications in the healthcare field by reviewing the related experimental results. To facilitate future research for filling research gaps, the importance of XAI models from different viewpoints and their limitations are investigated. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

In this white paper, we synthesize key points made during presentations and discussions from the AI-Assisted Decision Making for Conservation workshop, hosted by the Center for Research on Computation and Society at Harvard University on October 20-21, 2022. We identify key open research questions in resource allocation, planning, and interventions for biodiversity conservation, highlighting conservation challenges that not only require AI solutions, but also require novel methodological advances. In addition to providing a summary of the workshop talks and discussions, we hope this document serves as a call-to-action to orient the expansion of algorithmic decision-making approaches to prioritize real-world conservation challenges, through collaborative efforts of ecologists, conservation decision-makers, and AI researchers. This paper presents a summary of the Competition on Face Presentation Attack Detection Based on Privacy-aware Synthetic Training data (SynFacePAD 2023) held at the 2023 International Joint Conference on Biometrics (IJCB 2023). The competition attracted a total of 8 participating teams with valid submissions from academia and industry. The competition aimed to motivate and attract solutions that target detecting face presentation attacks while considering synthetic-based training data motivated by privacy, legal and ethical concerns associated with personal data. To achieve that, the training data used by the participants was limited to synthetic data provided by the organizers. The submitted solutions presented innovations and novel approaches that led to outperforming the considered baseline in the investigated benchmarks.

Global adoption of wind energy continues to increase, while improving the efficiency of turbine settings requires reliable wind speed (WS) models. The latest models rely on artificial intelligence (AI) optimizations which constructs tests on a range of novel hybrid models to examine the reliability. Gradient Boosting (GB), Random Forest (RF), and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) are used in new combinations for data pre-processing. A Time Varying Filter-based Empirical Mode Decomposition (TVFEMD) model is coupled with the GB and LSTM standalone models, to create TVFEMD-GB and TVFEMD-LSTM hybrids, which are run in competition with each other. Eventually, a preferred hybrid form is established, simultaneous hybridization of TVFEMD with GB and LSTM. This study is the first to hybridize these fundamental systems, and create a TVFEMD-GB-LSTM model that can forecast WS. This study finds that the novel hybrid models exhibit superior performance to standalone GB and LSTM models, opening the pathway to alternative WS prediction techniques. © 2024 The Authors

The novel coronavirus or officially known as SARS-CoV 2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2) has caused a severe pandemic over the world affecting not only the economy of the countries but also the lifestyle of the people worldwide. As on 31.12.2020, Covid-19 (coronavirus disease) has infecting more than 10266674 people and causing about 148738 deaths in India. It has been seen through various statistics of various countries that the number of Covid-19 cases grows exponentially as the number of test increases then after some period, the rate of new cases decreases. In this research paper, researchers have created deep learning-based model to predict the curve of the new Covid-19 cases vs the total number of tests conducted in India. There is still lockdown in some part of the country while some states have partially relaxed the rules and some states totally lifted the lockdown. Predicting the number of new cases and their trend can help in deciding what is the optimal time to release the lockdown. It will also help in determining when the coronavirus will loosen its grip from India. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

A semi-supervised methodology for fishing activity detection using the geometry behind the trajectory of multiple vessels

Automatic Identification System (AIS) messages are useful for tracking vessel activity across oceans worldwide using radio links and satellite transceivers. Such data plays a significant role in tracking vessel activity and mapping mobility patterns such as those found during fishing activities. Accordingly, this paper proposes a geometric-driven semi-supervised approach for fishing activity detection from AIS data. Through the proposed methodology, it is shown how to explore the information included in the messages to extract features describing the geometry of the vessel route. To this end, we leverage the unsupervised nature of cluster analysis to label the trajectory geometry highlighting changes in the vessel's moving pattern which tends to indicate fishing activity. The labels obtained by the proposed unsupervised approach are used to detect fishing activities, which we approach as a time-series classification task. We propose a solution using recurrent neural networks on AIS data streams with roughly 87% of the overall F-score on the whole trajectories of 50 different unseen fishing vessels. Such results are accompanied by a broad benchmark study assessing the performance of different Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) architectures. In conclusion, this work contributes by proposing a thorough process that includes data preparation, labeling, data modeling, and model validation. Therefore, we present a novel solution for mobility pattern detection that relies upon unfolding the geometry observed in the trajectory. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

We present a sheaf-theoretic construction of shape space-the space of all shapes. We do this by describing a homotopy sheaf on the poset category of constructible sets, where each set is mapped to its Persistent Homology Transforms (PHT). Recent results that build on fundamental work of Schapira have shown that this transform is injective, thus making the PHT a good summary object for each shape. Our homotopy sheaf result allows us to "glue" PHTs of different shapes together to build up the PHT of a larger shape. In the case where our shape is a polyhedron we prove a generalized nerve lemma for the PHT. Finally, by re-examining the sampling result of Smale-Niyogi-Weinberger, we show that we can reliably approximate the PHT of a manifold by a polyhedron up to arbitrary precision. © 2022, CC BY.

Patient outcomes improve if breast cancer is discovered early. Although many deep learning methods have been studied for breast cancer identification, the efficacy of many has been limited. It presents a new method encompassing the Quasi Cross Focused Transformer Guided Quantum Network with Lotus Optimization (QCFT-GQNet-LO) which is novel to resolve these issues. This technique uses Quasi-Cross Filtering (QCF) for image pre-processing, which improves image quality by reducing noise and artefacts. It was evaluated on histopathological images from the MIAS (Mammographic Image Analysis Society) dataset. A Focused Transformer with U-Net (FTUNet) is utilized to precisely segment malignant regions, guaranteeing precise identification of crucial places. The Self-Guided Quantum Network with Triple Attention (SGQNet-TA) controls classification and feature extraction, significantly improving the model's diagnostic abilities. The whole system is optimized using the Lotus Effect Optimization Algorithm (LEOA) to improve the efficiency and robustness. The QCFT-GQNetLO approach is shown to outperform other approaches, with experimentally demonstrated accuracy of 99.9%, and recall rate of 99.8% on the MIAS dataset. This significantly improves diagnostic precision of lesion type categorization and early breast malignancy diagnosis in histopathological images.
