In recent years, virtual reality educational game has gained much attention and has been applied for learning abstract and complex subject like chemistry. However, the study of the virtual reality educational game integrating authentic manipulation and situated learning assisting chemistry experiment learning is still limited. To improve the understanding of how VR can assist learning. This study developed a VR integrated educational game – VR Crystal Chamber for learning chemistry filtration and evaporation procedure. To evaluate the game, thirty students of a senior high school in northern Taiwan participated in this study. Preliminary results suggested that the game could be helpful in enhancing students' learning performance. In addition, students' flow state revealed positive game engagement. In terms of gender differences, the result showed there were no significant gender differences in male and female students' flow state as well as their learning performance. These preliminary findings suggested that VR Crystal Chamber could be an effectively tool in learning chemistry experiment procedure. © 2018 Asia-Pacific Society for computers in Education..All Rights Reserved.

In this paper, a reinforcement learning based control law is proposed to solve the attitude synchronization problem of the leader-following multi-quadrotor systems. The overall system is composed of a team of quadrotors, modeled with highly nonlinear and coupled dynamics. An optimal control solution is obtained by solving an augmented HamiltonJacobi-Bellman equation. A reinforcement learning approach is used to learn the optimal control law. simulation results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

A Minor Incident is a personal creation of animated short film that reflects upon the essence of human integration. Through the comparison and combination of individual differences in existential values, this film investigates the essence of group integration. Interactions among various ethnic and cultural groups in Taiwan are presented with a metaphorical story where personification is applied in narration. Regarding the theme, decades of interaction between the indigenous peoples in Taiwan and the late comers to this Island are explored extensively in a mild tone. Concerning the visual expression of the animation film, a multitude of ethnic and group issues are unfolded with metaphors in bright colors to enable the idea of the film to communicate with the audience's affective and cognitive abilities. This film intends to provide the audience with spiritual stimuli to trigger thinking or actions in them after viewing. Thus, film-making and film-watching become a meaningful process, where communication with others is achieved through a motion graphic-based visual work. © 2017 IEEE.

Throughout its history, Operational Research has evolved to include a variety of methods, models and algorithms that have been applied to a diverse and wide range of contexts. This encyclopedic article consists of two main sections: methods and applications. The first aims to summarise the up-to-date knowledge and provide an overview of the state-of-the-art methods and key developments in the various subdomains of the field. The second offers a wide-ranging list of areas where Operational Research has been applied. The article is meant to be read in a nonlinear fashion. It should be used as a point of reference or first-port-of-call for a diverse pool of readers: academics, researchers, students, and practitioners. The entries within the methods and applications sections are presented in alphabetical order. The authors dedicate this paper to the 2023 Turkey/Syria earthquake victims. We sincerely hope that advances in OR will play a role towards minimising the pain and suffering caused by this and future catastrophes. © 2023, CC BY.

The article is devoted to the investigation of seismic responses from probable oil-bearing formations. The three-dimensional geological model of the Bazhenov formation situated at Western Siberia is constructed. It is based on the elastic two-dimensional cross-section with curvilinear boundaries between different layers. For this purpose, logging and seismic data were processed jointly. To describe correctly the internal structure of mudstones the novel continuum model of media with interlayer slippage and delamination was utilized. The grid-characteristic method was used to solve numerically the govern system of the linear elasticity. The non-linearity of the model is incorporated with the appropriate explicit-implicit approximation procedure. For increasing the reliability of obtained synthetic seismograms the presence of the static rock pressure was taken into account. Reasonable computational time was achieved with the help of the parallelization based on the Message Passing Interface (MPI) technology. To analyze the structure of seismic responses wave patterns for the model with different parameters were presented. The influence of fractured layer on registered seismic traces were estimated. The proposed numerical approach may be used for simulation of complex geological objects.

We are a year into the development of a software tool for modeling and simulation (M&S) of 1D and 2D kinematics consistent with Newton’s laws of motion. Our goal has been to introduce modeling and computational thinking into learning high-school physics. There are two main contributions from an M&S perspective: (1) the use of conceptual modeling, and (2) the application of Finite State Machines (FSMs) to model physical behavior. Both of these techniques have been used by the M&S community to model high-level "soft systems" and discrete events. However, they have not been used to teach physics and represent ways in which M&S can improve physics education. We introduce the NSF-sponsored STEPP project along with its hypothesis and goals. We also describe the development of the three STEPP modules, the server architecture, the assessment plan, and the expected outcomes. © 2019 Association of Computing Machinery.

To evaluate the operational benefits of ADS-B based surveillance, a China Airspace Capability Model (CACM) is defined to measure the flight separation with safety constraint. The CACM represents airspace constraints by imposing in trail separation on dense routes and output delay metrics enable the user to quantify the impacts of changes. We use Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) system to estimate the delay savings associated with ADS-B equipage in two scenarios, one with 15 minutes in trail procedure used in current Air Traffic Center (ATC) and one with 5 minutes in trail which ADS-B supported procedure. The initial data comes from CAAC central and southern region flights of 2010. With ADS-B equipage scenario, we select ADS-B to use for airborne separation assurance application and utilize CACM to calculate minimum airborne safety separation. We simulate the complex interplay of the air traffic system, which provides a timeframe to study the interactions among the different ATM participants as they interact over the course of an entire day. After all data processing, the affected data are recorded and computed based on CACM model. In this way, we quantify the relationship between surveillance system performance and flight delay that reflect on benefit directly. The preliminary result shows that the deployment of ADS-B surveillance would reduce annual operational delay in the China airspace. simulations show significant reductions in operational delay attributed to the ADS-B. The largest reduction in delay was recorded by the ATFM where 35 percent of the average delay savings were realized.

Over the past years, firms around the world have implemented enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to have a standardized information system in their respective organizations and to re-engineer their business processes. Based on the business pressures force to take more powerful reactions, like as cost down the supply chain, slash stock, shorten manufacturing time, increase product category, promise the lead-time, provide better customer service, continue improving product quality, and coordinate globalize service efficiently. Hence, how to integrate EPR systems inner business has become the essential tool for business to face the variable world. Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems have been used in integrating information and accelerating its distribution across functions and departments with the aim to increase organizations operational performance. Based on the view of BSC (Balanced Scorecard), this study mainly attempts to build and to construct the electronic performance management system(finance, customer, company internal process, and learn-growth) to make “performance indicators” evaluation by doing questionnaire analysis against company vision, blueprint, and mission. The case study is based on implementation of an ERP system on the steel industry in Taiwan. By the case, investigate into the key successful factors and the performances to implement the ERP system, the conclusion that discuss to gain according to the case, with provide the reference to the domestic enterprise in implementation of ERP system, hope it will make the enterprise more competitive and to create the biggest value for the customers.
