This article proposes a new multi-level inverter (MLI) based on flying capacitor inverter (FCI), with focused on high-precision positioning control for a voice coil motor (VCM). Multi-level inverters (MLIs) have the characteristic that increasing the number of output voltage levels reduces the output voltage error. However, as the number of levels increases, the number of circuit elements increases, and the circuit becomes more complex. In addition, the output voltage amplitude for each level is constant in conventional inverters. As a result, such as high-precision positioning control of VCM, designing an appropriate inverter for a reference wave that contains a large amount of low-voltage components increases the number of circuit elements. Therefore, this paper proposes a MLI with two unbalanced dc-input voltages, referred to as unbalanced MLIs (UMLIs) hereinafter. This topology uses two different dc-input voltages, and it is possible to reduce the output voltage level in extremely low-voltage range compared to other voltage levels. Simulation results when the high-precision positioning control of the VCM confirm that the proposed UMLIs improves the control performance compared to the conventional FCIs with equal number of output voltage levels and uniform level widths. © 2025 IEEE.

Large Language Models (LLMs) are very large deep learning models, which are pre-trained on vast amounts of data, able to achieve general-purpose language understanding and generation. GPT-4 is an increasingly popular example from OpenAI. We introduce a novel framework called Generative Heuristics, which hybridize (meta)heuristics for its quantitative capabilities with the qualitative proficiency of LLMs. To illustrate this framework, we address a rich version of the Project Portfolio Selection Problem with a Generative Heuristic relying on a Simheuristic Algorithm. Our solving approach explores candidate portfolios, optimizing quantitative outcomes, such as the Net Present Value, while maintaining a focus on non-quantifiable strategic contributions. To maximize realism and applicability, the strategic plan from the LIFE program (EU’s funding instrument for environment and climate action) and project summaries from actual LIFE-funded projects are utilized. A computational experiment is carried out to illustrate the feasibility and potential of our approach, which enhance quantitative search procedures with cognitive capabilities, offering decision-makers both a more comprehensive and versatile set of options. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Segmentation of brain tumors aids in diagnosing the disease early, planning treatment, and monitoring its progression in medical image analysis. Automation is necessary to eliminate the time and variability associated with traditional segmentation methods. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and U-Net architectures have demonstrated their efficiency and effectiveness in segmenting brain tumors from MRI images using deep learning techniques. The paper presents an improved U-Net-based segmentation algorithm that integrates nested skip paths to improve encoder-decoder feature fusion. The performance of segmentation was optimized by utilizing a variety of activation functions and loss functions, including Dice Loss and Intersection over Union (IoU). A high level of accuracy was demonstrated in the proposed model when it was evaluated using the LGG Segmentation Dataset. The proposed approach for segmenting medical images has been shown to be both robust and efficient in a comparative analysis. © 2025 The Authors

Increasingly popular decentralized applications (dApps) with complex application logic incur significant overhead for executing smart contract transactions, which greatly limits public block chain performance. Pre-executing transactions off the critical path can mitigate substantial I/O and computation costs during execution. However, pre-execution does not yield any state transitions, rendering the system state inconsistent with actual execution. This inconsistency can lead to deviations in pre-execution paths when processing smart contracts with multiple state-related branches, thus diminishing pre-execution effectiveness. In this paper, we develop Seer, a novel public block chain execution engine that incorporates fine-grained branch prediction to fully exploit pre-execution effectiveness. Seerpredicts state-related branches using a two-level prediction approach, reducing inconsistent execution paths more efficiently than executing all possible branches. To enable effective reuse of pre execution results, Seer employs checkpoint-based fast-path execution, enhancing transaction execution for both successful and unsuccessful predictions. Evaluations with realistic block chain workloads demonstrate that Seer delivers an average of 27.7× transaction-level speedup and an overall 20.6× speedup in the execution phase over vanilla Ethereum, outperforming existing block chain execution acceleration solutions. © 2025, VLDB Endowment, All rights reserved.

The usage of machine learning and deep learning algorithms have necessitated Artificial Intelligence'. AI is aimed at automating things by limiting human interference. It is widely used in IT, healthcare, finance, and agriculture. It is achieved through several deep learning algorithms that reflect the human brain's intelligence. These AI algorithms can be manipulated according to changing needs and improved efficiency. This paper tries to utilize the developments made in AI technology to classify the images and recognize the objects present in them. One widely used AI algorithm is CNN (Convolutional Neural Networks). The CNN is a deep learning-based algorithm that consists of various layers that extract and filters the parameters present in the images. Some additional layers of ResNet50 and the CNN algorithm are used to extract the parameters to improve image recognition accuracy. The image dataset taken for training and testing the proposed model is imageNet. The images are initially processed before sending them to the proposed model. The proposed model is trained, validated, and tested through the images obtained after the initial processing. The same process is repeated several times until getting the maximum accuracy. The accuracy of the proposed model in terms of image recognition is recorded. The obtained results are compared with other image classification algorithms like VGG16 and VGG19. Instantaneous frequency (IF) serves multiple critical functions in the prognostic and health management of rotating machinery. Current IF estimation methodologies primarily concentrate on enhancing estimation accuracy at the algorithmic level. However, in practical industrial applications, the target signal component is often influenced by varying operating conditions, structural resonances, and background noise, causing it to become submerged or even disappear, ultimately resulting in the failure of conventional IF estimation techniques. To address these challenges, a novel IF estimation approach incorporating signal quality enhancement is developed. First, the complementary multi-source vibration signal is processed by the proposed segmented cepstrum lifting method to overcome the submersion of the resonant frequency band on the target component. Then, processed segmented signals are fused using coherent averaging technology to enhance the amplitude of the target component. Finally, leveraging the first-order approximation capability of the short-time fractional Fourier transform (STFrFT) for nonlinear frequency modulation modes, precise IF estimation is achieved. Verified by field data, the proposed method outperforms mainstream methods in both accuracy and applicability, highlighting its industrial application prospects. © 2025 IEEE.

Stable Stochastic MPC for Uncertain Wind Energy Conversion system Over Whole Operating Regions

The stochastic uncertainty of wind speed presents a great challenge for achieving reliable power control in wind energy conversion system (WECS). Due to the excellence in handling the uncertainties based on probabilistic descriptions, stochastic model predictive control (SMPC) has been regarded as a promising strategy for WECS. However, owing to fluctuation characteristic of wind speed, operating points commonly change in WECS. Thus, an important limitation of applying SMPC to WECS stems from the fact that feasibility and stability of the traditional SMPC can only be ensured at one single predesigned operating point. Regarding this issue, a stable SMPC strategy for uncertain WECS is proposed in this paper to ensure the feasibility and stability of WECS under changing operating points over the whole operating regions. A Luenberger observer is employed to estimate model-plant mismatch introduced by linearization process, while a tube-based control framework is deployed to cope with stochastic wind speed disturbance. The feasibility of SMPC is ensured by incorporating artificial steady targets as optimization variables, while the stability of WECS is guaranteed by modifying the cost function and extending the terminal constraint. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy is validated through simulations and experiments under different scenarios. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

Virtual memory, with the support of address translation hardware, is a key technique in expanding programmability and memory management in GPUs. However, the nature of the GPU execution model heavily pressures its translation hardware, particularly due to a discrepancy in the behavior of page table walkers and thousands of concurrently running threads. In GPU workloads, multiple threads simultaneously access a number of pages necessitating a substantial number of translations whereas each walker handles only a single walk request at a time. Such a limitation significantly increases the queueing latency of walk requests, which we observe as a major bottleneck for servicing page table walks in GPUs. To tackle this challenge, we investigate a design of page walkers that facilitates multiple walk requests to be handled together in batches. Then, we make the following observations: 1) allowing a page walker to issue beyond a single memory request significantly improves the throughput of walkers, and 2) GPU applications tend to concurrently access pages in wide address ranges. By leveraging the above implications, we propose Marching Page Walks (MPW) that effectively mitigate the contention in GPU page table walkers. MPW scans pending walk requests to identify ones that can be grouped together. Then, MPW batches these requests and concurrently handles them by issuing multiple memory instructions. Experiments show that MPW reduces the queueing latency of page walks by 86.7% and improves GPU performance by 55.6% over the baseline design. © 2025 IEEE.

In this study, we propose ferroelectric-based reconfigurable field-effect transistors (FeRFETs) that utilizes the structure of a fully depleted silicon-on-insulator field-effect transistors (FDSOI FETs). In FeRFETs, the non-volatile and reconfigurable electrostatic doping facilitated by ferroelectric enables type conversion. Through the TCAD simulations calibrated with the experimental data, we confirm a reconfigurable high doping level (> 1×1021 cm-3), a clear type conversion and highly tunable performance in FeRFETs. It is also found that carefully tailoring coercive field (EC) is important to maximize the performance of FeRFETs. © 2002-2012 IEEE.
