Regular monitoring of the maintenance manhole system is imperative to uphold the city's health and cleanliness standards. Our study offers an intelligent manhole that monitors the manhole's condition, water level, and gases. We tested the status, gas, and water levels of our revolutionary, innovative manhole in several places. Our system's Blink app position tracking of our smart manhole is critical. This capability improves monitoring efficiency and speeds up issue resolution. Our work revolutionizes municipal utility maintenance and safety by optimizing manhole performance. Integrating a Node MCU, GPS module, gas sensor, ultrasonic sensor, and Android Blynk software creates a complete real-time monitoring and data-collecting system. Combining these technologies, our Manhole Monitoring system improves safety and streamlines maintenance, making municipal infrastructure more robust and efficient. This paper highlights the promising features of IoT and shows how it may be used to improve the smart manhole. In the future, this creative method may result in a more durable and better intelligent city. © 2024 IEEE.

One of the most critical problems facing the blockchain technology industry right now is how to protect the privacy of users’ data on the blockchain in a way that is both effective and cheap. Based on the Pedersen commitment and the Schnorr protocol, this study comes up with a secure multi-party computing protocol (BPLSM). By making the structure of the protocol and doing formal proof calculations, it has been shown that the protocol can be used in the blockchain network to combine private messages for efficient signing while keeping people’s identities secret. Furthermore, by looking at the nature and security of the protocol, it is also possible to find that the BPLSM protocol on the blockchain has a low cost of computing and a high level of information secrecy. Furthermore, it was found that the BPLSM protocol takes less time to check than the current mainstream BLS signature in a simple multi-party transaction with a fixed number of participants. © 2024 The Author(s).

The high death rate and rapid spread of pneumonia make it a serious global health concern. The precision of traditional diagnostic techniques is often compromised, particularly in resource-limited settings. Existing studies have predominantly focused on either binary or multi-class classification, often relying on limited datasets, which affects the generalizability and robustness of models. Additionally, the interpretability and transparency of deep learning models remain challenging in clinical environments. Addressing these challenges is crucial for advancing diagnostic methodologies to combat pneumonia. This study explores the use of transfer learning to improve the reliability of pneumonia classification using chest X-ray images. An automated classification system was developed, utilizing a combination of image preprocessing techniques, feature extraction with GLRLM, and various machine learning and transfer learning algorithms. Two datasets were employed: the GWCMCx dataset with 5856 chest X-rays and another dataset comprising 9207 chest X-rays. The system was designed for both binary and multi-class classification scenarios. CapsuleNet emerged as the most effective model, achieving an accuracy of 99.02% in binary classification and 90.43% in multi-class classification, significantly outperforming previous studies. Additionally, a user-friendly web application was developed to facilitate the integration of the classification system into clinical workflows, accelerating clinical decision-making. This study demonstrates the potential of transfer learning to automate and improve pneumonia diagnosis, offering a scalable solution that can alleviate radiologists' workload and improve patient outcomes. © 2024 IEEE.

Software vulnerabilities are a major cyber threat and it is important to detect them. One important approach to detecting vulnerabilities is to use deep learning while treating a program function as a whole, known as function-level vulnerability detectors. However, the limitation of this approach is not understood. In this paper, we investigate its limitation in detecting one class of vulnerabilities known as inter-procedural vulnerabilities, where the to-be-patched statements and the vulnerability-triggering statements belong to different functions. For this purpose, we create the first Inter -Procedural Vulnerability Dataset (InterPVD) based on C/C++ open-source software, and we propose a tool dubbed VulTrigger for identifying vulnerability-triggering statements across functions. Experimental results show that VulTrigger can effectively identify vulnerability-triggering statements and inter-procedural vulnerabilities. Our findings include: (i) inter-procedural vulnerabilities are prevalent with an average of 2.8 inter-procedural layers;and (ii) function-level vulner-ability detectors are much less effective in detecting to-be-patched functions of inter-procedural vulnerabilities than detecting their counterparts of intra-procedural vulnerabilities. © 2024 ACM.

As hybrid power plants (HPPs), such as photovoltaic (PV) and battery combinations, become increasingly important in power systems with high renewable energy penetration to address PV variability and ensure grid stability. This paper focuses on the urgent need to model the coordination between PV and battery systems in HPPs while accounting for battery degradation. We present a generation scheduling model that explicitly incorporates PV-battery hybridization in the unit commitment problem. Moreover, the cost function of the HPP scheduling problem endogenously considers battery degradation with adjustable weights to strike a balance between minimizing production costs and prolonging battery life, particularly when providing energy arbitrage and ancillary services. Using a realistic island system simulation, we demonstrate that accounting for battery degradation in the scheduling problem can significantly extend battery life with only minor additional production costs. © 2023 IEEE.

User Experience (UX) evaluation has a significant importance for any interactive application. Mobile device applications have additional limitations to convey good user experiences (UX) due to the usage and features of mobile devices in ubiquitous computing contexts. There are a lot of automated tools available for evaluating, such applications particularly developed for Android and iOS. Automated UX evaluation provides a number of strengths which are able to overcome the limitations of non-automated (moderated) counterparts. Automated UX evaluation is regarded as unexplored field, especially when it is adopted for the UX evaluation of complex mobile application. Despite these, automated UX evaluation tools are unexplored and should only be used in coupling with traditional UX evaluation techniques. Hence, this study aims to discuss the literature in automated UX evaluation and to highlight the UX measurements that merit further investigation. This paper presents the most fre-quently used automated UX evaluation tools for mobile applications. Therefore, the study analyzes existing automated UX tools and frameworks and identifies which UX attributes and measurements of automated UX evaluation are likely to be of use in future research. Moreover, we discuss the strengths and limitations of automated UX evaluation methods for mobile applications. Finally, the paper provides an overview of automated UX evaluation techniques and tools. Resistive pressure sensors such as strain gauge's have immense industrial applications due to low-cost and moderate to high sensitivity. Their applications have grown recently with the advancement in flexible resistive pressure sensors. However, the resistance of these sensors is highly affected by drift and offset resistance. Conventionally, voltage dividers and Wheatstone bridge-based circuits have been used for interfacing such sensors. However such interfacing circuits need calibration for offset resistance compensation. But the problem due to drift in resistance is still present. In this paper, a novel circuit is proposed to compensate for the offset and drift of these sensors. The proposed circuit detects the change in resistance using auto-zeroing feedback loop. The proposed circuit is tested with a fabricated thread-based pressure sensor for touch detection. Experimental results show that R variations as low as 10 Ω can be detected with a wide range of sensor resistance measurement. The error of measurement in sensor resistance is less than 1%. © 2023 IEEE.

Wireless communication via unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has drawn a great deal of attention due to its flexibility in establishing line-of-sight (LoS) communications. However, in complex urban and dynamic environments, the movement of UAVs can be blocked by trees and high-rise buildings that obstruct directional paths. This problem can be effectively addressed by employing reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS). To achieve this goal, accurate channel estimation in RIS-assisted UAV-enabled wireless communications is crucial. This paper proposes an accurate channel estimation model using long short-term memory (LSTM) for a multi-user RIS-assisted UAV-enabled wireless communications system. Simulation results showed that LSTM can effectively improve the channel estimation performance of RIS-assisted UAV-enabled wireless communications. © The Institution of engineering & technology 2023.

A novel deep learning-based face mask detection system is designed to enhance public safety in various environments. With the ongoing global health concerns, the need for efficient and accurate methods to identify individuals wearing or not wearing face masks has become crucial. By utilizing convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and transfer learning techniques, proposed model achieves impressive accuracy while maintaining high-speed processing capabilities. This paper outlines the architecture, training process, and performance evaluation of the proposed deep learning-based face mask detection system, highlighting its promising role in contributing to a safer and healthier society. The development of a vision-based safety system, the transfer of a small YOLO object detection model, and the creation of a CNN-based classification model are the key objectives of this study. According to experimental findings, proposed system is capable of real-time face mask detection and classification with an accuracy of over 98%. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
