A cooperative control of two robots by remote operation is proposed. The two slave robots are controlled simultaneously by another remote master robot that is manipulated by a human operator. Force-reflection bilateral control method is adopted in the master and slave robots control to make the operator manipulate the robots smoothly. In order to make the two slave robots act cooperatively to catch, carry and set an object, two methods of hybrid control and impedance control are used and compared to control the two slave robots.

A graph is pancyclic if it contains all cycles from lengths 4 to |V(G)|. An n-dimensional crossed cube, an important variation of hypercube denoted as CQ/sub n/, has been proved to be pancyclic because it contains all cycles whose lengths range from 4 to |V(CQ/sub n/)|. Since vertex and edge faults may occur when a network is used, it is practical and meaningful to evaluate the performance of a faulty network. Moreover the vertex fault-tolerant Hamiltonicity and the edge fault-tolerant Hamiltonicity measure the performances of the Hamiltonian properties in the faulty networks. From this fault-tolerant concept, we propose using the fault-tolerant pancyclicity of networks to measure the performance of faulty networks. In this paper we consider a faulty crossed n-cube with vertex and/or edge faults here. Let the faulty set F be a subset of V(CQ/sub n/)/spl cup/E(CQ/sub n/). We prove that any cycle of length l(4/spl les/l/spl les/|V(CQ/sub n/)|-f/sub /spl nu//) can be embedded into a faulty crossed n-cube CQ/sub n/-F with dilation 1, where |F|=f/sub /spl nu//+f/sub e/ is less than n-2, f/sub /spl nu// is the number of faulty vertices of F, f/sub e/ is the number of faulty edges of F, and n is greater than 2. The results can readily be used in the optimum embedding of a ring of the specified length in a faulty crossed cube.

A multi-function phased array radar must search and track suspicious targets in its surveillance space in a real-time fashion. This paper targets one of the most important issues in the design of modern phased array radars: real-time dwell scheduling. We propose a rate-based approach to schedule radar dwells in a real-time fashion. We show how to reserve radar resources to guarantee the minimum radar operation without sacrificing the stability of the system. The strength of our approach is verified by a series of simulation experiments based a real phased array radar for air defense frigates.

This paper proposes an intelligent diagnosis method for plant machinery using wavelet transform (WT) genetic programming (GP) and possibility theory. The WT is used to extract feature spectra of each machine state from measured vibration signal for distinguishing faults. Excellent symptom parameters (SP) for detecting fault states are automatically generated by GP. The membership functions of symptom parameters are established using possibility theory for resolving the ambiguous diagnosis problems. The methods proposed in this paper are verified by applying them to the fault diagnosis of gear equipment.

Decision tree induction is one of the widely used classification approaches. It constructs a tree in which an internal node is split based on values of a selected attribute. Depending on the attribute selected at each level of the tree, a training dataset could lead to many different trees. Consequently, it is possible that an unseen case is classified into different and conflict classes using different trees. On the other band, recently developed association role based classifications are able to generate more interesting and useful rules than decision trees. However, the large number of rules without appropriate data structure brings the issue of efficiency. In this paper, we propose to unify decision tree classification with association-based classification using generalized decision trees (GDT). GDT generalizes the concept of decision tree to encode all interesting classification rules discovered based on association in a tree form. it inherits the merits of both approaches and removes their drawbacks. The data structure and related algorithms are discussed. Results of an experimental study are presented to indicate the advantages of GDT.

We present the impact of technology scaling on mixed PTL/static circuits and compare the results with that of domino and conventional static CMOS. The state-of-the-art technologies of 0.18 /spl mu/m, 0.13 /spl mu/m, and 0.1 /spl mu/m were used in the study with V/sub dd/ being scaled accordingly. The benchmark suite consists of 10 circuits of varying complexities and they are actual circuits used in a state-of-the-art 64-bit microprocessor in the form of either dynamic or static CMOS circuits. The objective of this work is to determine how performance and power consumption scales with technology scaling. Our experimental results show that the mixed PTL/static circuit style is a promising alternative in power and power-delay product while achieving comparable delay to the dynamic circuit style.

A storage area network (SAN) is a high-speed special-purpose network (or subnetwork) that interconnects different kinds of data storage devices with associated data servers on behalf of a larger network of users. In SAN, computers service local file requests directly from shared storage devices. Direct device access eliminates the server machines as bottlenecks to performance and availability. Communication is unnecessary between computers, since each machine views the storage as being locally attached. SAN provides us to very large physical storage up to 64-bit address space, but traditional file systems can't adapt to the file system for SAN because they have the limitation of scalability. In this paper we propose a new mechanism for file system using dynamic bitmap assignment. While traditional file systems rely on a fixed bitmap structures for metadata such as super block, inode, and directory entries, the proposed file system allocates bitmap and allocation area depend on file system features. Our approaches give a solution of the problem that the utilization of the file system depends on the file size in the traditional file systems. We show that the dynamic bitmap mechanism this improves the efficiency of disk usage in file system when compared to the conventional file systems.

An abstract multimedia semantic model called the multimedia augmented transition network (MATN) model is proposed to model the RTSP-based (real-time streaming protocol) multimedia presentation systems. RTSP provides a set of methods to support the functionality of "VCR-like" remote control on the client side so that users are allowed to control playback of the streaming media. The MATN model is used to model RTSP actions as well as temporal relations and synchronization control of the media streams. The advantages of using the MATN model are its simplicity, effectiveness, and ease of modification. Furthermore, a formal definition of the MATN model and modeling of RTSP actions using the MATN model are presented in detail.

There is a growing recognition that current manufacturing enterprises must be agile, and the use of virtual enterprise (VE) is becoming increasingly prevalent in recent years. It is a very important and difficult activity in forming a virtual enterprise to select appropriate business partners, because each enterprise considers not only pursuing its profit but also sharing the risk to join the virtual enterprise. At first we propose a VE coalition algorithm based on multi-agent paradigm. Then we develop a computer simulation model to evaluate the proposed method by forming a virtual enterprise through multiple negotiations amongst several potential members in the negotiation domain. Finally, we clarify the coalition dynamism with the negotiation process. The effectiveness of the proposed concept in the agile manufacturing is discussed with several simulation experiments.

The electron delay time associated with the electron propagation across the FET gate barrier layer under high positive gate bias is expected to induce a dynamic negative differential conductance and enhance the growth of plasma waves in the channel. This dynamic negative conductance is related to the phase shift between the current and voltage waveforms caused by the electron time delay during the electron tunneling through the gate barrier. We present experimental investigations of the plasma wave detector responsivity at 200 GHz and 600 GHz radiation for long channel AlGaAs/GaAs and AlGaInN/GaN based HEMTs at 8 K and 300 K. The appearance of detector response correlated with an increase of the injected gate current under the forward gate bias is reported for both types of the investigated devices. Our results confirm that a large gate current can enhance the excitation of plasma waves.
