Estimating communication skills based on multimodal information in group discussions

This paper focuses on developing a model for estimating communication skills of each participant in a group from multimodal (verbal and nonverbal) features. For this purpose, we use a multimodal group meeting corpus including audio signal data and head motion sensor data of participants observed in 30 group meeting sessions. The corpus also includes the communication skills of each participant, which is assessed by 21 external observers with the experience of human resource management. We extracted various kinds of features such as spoken utterances, acoustic features, speaking turns and the amount of head motion to estimate the communication skills. First, we created a regression model to infer the level of communication skills from these features using support vector regression to evaluate the estimation accuracy of the communication skills. Second, we created a binary (high or low) classification model using support vector machine. Experiment results show that the multimodal model achieved 0.62 in R2 as the regression accuracy of overall skill, and also achieved 0.93 as the classification accuracy. This paper reports effective features in predicting the level of communication skill and shows that these features are also useful in characterizing the difference between the participants who have high level communication skills and those who do not. © 2016, Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence. Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a special type of communication medium through distributed sensor nodes. Popular wireless sensor nodes like ZigBee have splendid interoperability after IEEE 802.15.4 standardization in the domain of wireless personal area network (WPAN). ZigBee has another great feature mobility that makes the ZigBee network more versatile. The mobility feature of ZigBee mobile nodes has a greater impact on network performance than fixed nodes. This impact sometimes turns into more severe because of network structure and mobility model. This study mainly focuses on the performance analysis of the ZigBee mobile node under Random and Octagonal mobility management model with the Tree routing method. The Riverbed academic modeler is used to design, implement and simulate the ZigBee network under certain conditions. This study also presents a competitive performance analysis based on ZigBee mobile nodes transmitter and receiver characteristics under the observation of the mobility model. This indicates that Octagonal mobility model exhibits better performance than the Random mobility model. This study will constitute a new way for further designing and planning a reliable and efficient ZigBee network.

One of the roles of decision support system is that it can assist the decision maker in obtaining the appropriate alternative with the desired criteria, one of the methods that could apply for the decision maker is SMART method with multicriteria decision making. This multi-criteria decision-making theory has meaning where every alternative has criteria and has value and weight, and the author uses this approach to facilitate decision making with a compelling case. The problems discussed in this paper are classified into problems of a variety Multiobjective (multiple goals to be accomplished) and multicriteria (many of the decisive criteria in reaching such decisions).

Transparent solar antenna of 28 GHz using transparent conductive oxides (TCO) thin film

This paper presents the analysis of 28GHz solar patch antenna using the variations of transparent conductive oxides (TCO) thin film as the radiating patch. Solar antenna is basically combining the function of antenna and solar cell into one device and helps to maximize the usage of surface area. The main problem of the existing solar antenna is the radiating patch which made of nontransparent material, such as copper, shadowing the solar cell and degrades the total solar efficiency. Hence, by using the transparent conductive oxides (TCO) thin film as the radiating patch, this problem can be tackled. The TCO thin film used is varied to ITO, FTO, AgHT-4, and AgHT-8 along with glass as substrate. The simulation of the antenna executed by using computer Simulation Technology (CST) Microwave Studio software demonstrated at 28 GHz operating frequency for 5G band applications. The performance of the transparent antennas is compared with each other and also with the nontransparent patch antenna that using Rogers RT5880 as substrate, operating at the same resonance frequency and then, the material that gives the best performance is identified.

In this work, microfluidic channel was explored using dry film resist (DFR) method. Many of previous studies used SU-8 and PDMS as the medium to fabricate microfluidic channel for making a microfluidic chamber. Microscope slides were used as the substrate for the applications with bio components since it is inert and stable. The DFR serves to be the spacer to form the channel. Several processes which include cleaning, drying, prebaking, laminating, UV exposure and finally post-baking were involved in channel making. These processes need to be optimized in order to obtain a good chamber. Silicon rubber and UV glue were used to seal the chamber system to prevent any leakages. © 2015 IEEE.

Hash search is a method that can be used for various search processes such as search engines, sorting, machine learning, neural network and so on, in the search process the possibility of collision data can happen and to prevent the occurrence of collision can be done in several ways one of them is to use Overflow technique, the use of this technique perform with varying length of data and this technique can prevent the occurrence of data collisions.

A visual surveillance system should have the ability to view an object of interest at a certain size so that important information related to that object can be collected and analyzed as the object moves in the area observed by multiple cameras. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for real-time, distributed, multi-object tracking in a PTZ camera network with this capability. In our framework, the user is provided a tool to mark an object of interest such that the object is tracked at a certain size as it moves in the view of various cameras across space and time. The pan, tilt and zoom capabilities of the PTZ cameras are leveraged upon to ensure that the object of interest remains within the predefined size range as it is seamlessly tracked in the PTZ camera network. In our distributed system, each camera tracks the objects in its view using particle filter tracking and multi-layered belief propagation is used for seamlessly tracking objects across cameras. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

This paper presents link prediction of Linked Open Data (LOD) by Multiple Label Propagation Algorithm (MLPA). The current LOD do not have enough links. Therefore, the LOD have not been able to exert so much semantic characteristics. In order to solve this problem, we proposed the MLPA considering semantic distance. The MLPA can expand potential links of each data contained in the LOD. The experimental result of the MLPA shows the good performance and the validity of this algorithm is confirmed.

A new companding function is proposed for non-uniform indexation of a quadratically interpolated LUT predistorter used in digital predistortion under wideband signals. In digital predistortion, lookup table (LUT) predistorters are the most frequently used technique in order to compensate the non-linear effects of a power amplifier. In this paper, a new companding function of a quadratically interpolated LUT predistorter is designed in order to reduce the approximation errors of quadratic interpolation which causes the intermodulation (IMD) distortion. Simulation result shows that the proposed technique provides a better rejection of intermodulation distortion compared to quadratic interpolated LUT, linear interpolated LUT and conventional non-linear interpolated LUT predistorters respectively.
