This paper describes the development of an embedded smart home management scheme over the Ethernet network. The platform of the smart home management system is built using bespoke embedded system design. An embedded control module developed by exploiting the Web Services mechanism, consist of 15 monitoring channels based on XML SOAP standards. Each channel is integrated to dedicated smart home management scheme and performs bi-directional real-time control. In the event of server unavailability, a mobile based communication module using GSM has been deployed as an alternate management mechanism. The proposed embedded-enabled solution offers bi-directional real-time management as well as optimized performance for smart home environment.

The invention of turbo codes has attracted many researchers to explore various fields regarding turbo codes since it provides better error rate performance compared to the existing codes. Good error rate performance gives a penalty to the complexity of the codes. It includes the complexity of decoding algorithm and iterative decoding. This paper reviews the history of turbo codes and its structures. This paper also discusses the turbo decoding stopping criteria algorithm and analyses the performance of fixed and cross-entropy (CE) based stopping criteria. From the results, both criteria fail to terminate early in low SNR. However, CE-based stopping criteria outperform the fixed stopping criterion at high SNR and able to save more iteration and delay. This leads to an energy saving preservation while maintaining the performance of turbo codes.

The intensity of fluorescence spectral lines of Rb atoms in the region of 350-1110nm is measured in eletrodeless discharge lamp. The population ratio between the excited states is calculated according to the spontaneous transition probabilities with rate equations. At the same time, the population density of energy level is also obtained. The results provide the potential applications of electrodeless discharge lamp in atomic filter and optical frequency reference at higher excited states without a pumping laser.

This work investigates the fundamental properties of armchair single-wall carbon nanotubes (armchair-SWCNTs) dipole antenna at THz band using Drude method. Due to their metallic conducting properties, the armchair SWCNTs will be utilized in this work. The radiation pattern, s 11 parameters, phase velocity and antenna directivity are presented for this antenna. The results demonstrate that armchair-SWCNTs dipole antenna with a radius of 2.71 nm takes on the resonant frequency properties from 1THz to 18THz, corresponding antenna lengths 1500nm to 50nm. All results in this work can be used for design of CNTs antenna (armchair-SWCNTs antenna) in wide THz band. The evaluation of the antenna's performance was done using computer Simulation Technology (Microwave studio) CST (MWS), which exhibited and analyzed the key parameters of the antenna.

The coating method of carbon nanotubes is one of the fabrication techniques. This review therefore, aims to present a general lid on different kinds of coating methods employed to fabricate new composite materials of carbon nanotubes. Their potential applications are also addressed. The key conditions of preferable coating methods that commensurate with CNT antennas applications are then proposed in this paper.

This paper presents a correction algorithm for metal artefacts in CT images using a novel technique known as dual-step adaptive thresholding (DSAT). The proposed artefact correction algorithm was applied to selected artefactual phantom and clinical CT images. The missing projection data due to metal is detected and extracted by double-thresholding technique. The DSAT-based algorithm allows significant reduction of the artefact and preserves most of the anatomical structures in the corrected CT images.
