systems on Chips (SoCs) architecture complexity is result of integrating a large numbers of cores in a single chip. The approaches should address the systems particular challenges such as reliability, performance, and power constraints. Monitoring became a necessary part for testing, debugging and performance evaluations of SoCs at run time, as On-chip monitoring is employed to provide environmental information, such as temperature, voltage, and error data. Real-time system validation is done by exploiting the monitoring to determine the proper operation of a system within the designed parameters. The paper explains the common monitoring operations in SoCs, showing the functionality of thermal, voltage and soft error monitors. The different architectures that are approached by the research community until now are discussed.

Dangerous goods transportation (DGT) is a relevant safety and security issue that has been treated in many papers in the last decades. Considering the significant damages that a DGT accident can cause, a DGT routing strategy is to avoid the worst case accident scenario, following a risk-averse behaviour. Game-theory is very useful in this context. Taking into account a DGT flow on a road network and the technologies for vehicle/infrastructure communication which are nowadays available, the overall context can be modelled as a system of systems, where a team of road segments concurs to find an optimal strategy to minimise the maximum risk on the territory. Two problems related to DGT are presented and preliminary formulations, at operational and at real-time level, are described. A solving method based on linear matrix inequalities is shown and first results are shown.

The new paradigm in mobile services lies in providing a location-based user experience and here lies the tremendous scope for expansion of location-based services (LBS). One of the key approaches that have been recognized as an enabler of such a view is policy-based management, which has been mostly acknowledged as a methodology that provides adaptability and support to automatically assign network resources, control Quality of Service and security, by considering administratively specified rules. Whilst current research focuses mostly on rules for low-level device configuration, significant challenges remain to be addressed in order to provide dynamic adaptation of policy in response to changes and ensure that policies will lead to a feasible implementation within the managed environment. In this paper, the emphasis is on building the described environment using today's existing technologies. We use our policy-based framework PobMC to combine mobile (location-based) services, ubiquitous and autonomic computing concepts. The goal is to bring the kind of informationrich environment, which is currently limited to computer screens, to the real world. This is achieved by constructing an architecture based on existing wireless network technologies and Web applications. Location information of destinations and users is computed by the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) values of the Wi-Fi sensors, to provide adaptive services over wireless Web. The users use their mobile devices to access these location-based services.

Image segmentation is the most important step and a key technology in image processing which directly affect the next processing. In human blood cell segmentation cases, many methods were applied for obtaining better results. It is basically an improved visualization to observe blood cell under blood smear process. This paper will present an approach for red blood cell (RBC) segmentation which is a part of study to perform automated counting for RBC. The methods involve are Ycbcr color conversion, masking, morphological operators and watershed algorithm. The combination of Ycbcr color conversion and morphological operator produce segmented white blood cell (WBC) nucleus. Then it is being used as a mask to remove WBC from the blood cell image. Morphological operators involve binary erosion diminish small object like platelet. The resulted RBC segmentation is passing through marker controlled watershed algorithm which handles overlapping cells. The improvement need to be done for both segmentation and overlapped cell handling to obtain better result in the future.

A new multi-cell joint channel estimation technique for uplink TD-SCDMA system is proposed. The Channel impulse responses of the serving cell and the effective neighboring cell users will process jointly. The new technique adopts the singular value decomposition criterion to reduce the rank order of the system channel matrix. Depending on a limited number of the real parameters that need it to describe the channel matrix, the estimation process will be efficient and the reduced rank technique can significantly improve the channel estimation accuracy. Simulation results show clearly that the proposed reduced rank estimator can significantly improve the channel estimation accuracy for multi-cell networks under rank-deficient consideration. The mean square error (MSE) measure has shown the validity performance of the proposed estimator over the conventional estimators. In addition, the correlation coefficient measures of the reduced rank estimators have shown slightly the superiority of the proposed technique.

The increased penetration of renewable energy sources and the concept of a dynamic and highly distributed Smart Grid which can intelligently integrate production units, storage systems and connected users opened new challenges in the application of optimization techniques. In this work, a dynamic optimization problem is formulated on a power grid characterized by wind and photovoltaic production units, conventional power plants, biomass co-generation and storage systems. A Model Predictive Control (MPC) scheme is adopted in the dynamic decision model for real time purposes. The decision problem takes into account the network load flows constraints and a state equation related to the state of charge (SOC) of the batteries. Different issues (economic, technical, environmental, security) have been taken into account for the formalization of the objective function. Numerical results are finally reported and discussed.
