Intravenous (IV) therapy has been included as an integral part of nurse's professional practice. Although it is an effective curing technique, it has some complications. Air embolism is one of such complications which may cause death of patients in some cases. In this paper, we have proposed an efficient, economic and reliable air embolism protecting system to save precious lives in case of air bubble insertion. The proposed system monitors the IV tube and when an air bubble even in fraction of millimeter gets introduced into the tube, detects it, indicates emergency and blocks the fluid flow to protect entrance of the air bubble into the human body. The proposed system has been evaluated on various IV solutions;results are very promising as the accuracy is more than or equal to 99% in every case thus supporting the implementation of the solution. Therefore, the system can be used for any type of IV solution.

The main deficiency of standard TCP and all existing variations in ad hoc mobile network arises in its inability to classify packet losses. Conventional TCP diagnoses all losses due to congestion since non-congestion losses are rare and ignorable in wired network. However, these losses are generated frequently in MANET due to signal attenuation, interference and node's mobility. In order to prevent TCP form invoking congestion control over non-congestion loss and vice versa, Packet loss classification with high accuracy is desirable. This paper proposes an end-to-end sender-side approach which aims to classify congestion loss, wireless channel loss and link failure loss using queue usage estimation. Relative One-way Trip Time is key factor in calculating queue usage. Packet losses with queue usage rate greater than predefined threshold is always interpreted as congestion loss no matter how loss recognized. However, queue usage less than threshold signify presence of non-congestion losses. Non-congestion loss which recognized by three duplicate ack labels loss due to wireless channel error since it is indication of route existence between communicating end point that duplicate ACKs moved along. However Non-congestion loss which recognized after retransmission timer expiration has been probably due to link failure. Different approaches efficiency are evaluated based on loss classification's accuracy under different conditions such as various flow numbers, various wireless loss rates and variable speed for nodes. Simulations illustrate that obtained accuracy of enhanced scheme is the highest among proposed methods. © 2011 IEEE.

We present a theory of the multi-threshold second-order phase transition,and experimentally demonstrate the multi-threshold secondorder phase transition *** carefully selected parameters,in an external cavity diode laser system,we observe secondorder phase transition with multiple(three or four) thresholds in the measured power-current-temperature three dimensional phase *** controlled death and revival of second-order phase transition sheds new insight into the nature of ubiquitous secondorder phase *** theory and experiment show that the single threshold second-order phase transition is only a special case of the more general multi-threshold second-order phase transition,which is an even richer phenomenon.

Robust and efficient vision systems are essential in such a way to support different kinds of autonomous robotic behaviors linked to the capability to interact with the surrounding environment, without relying on any a priori knowledge. Within space missions, above all those involving rovers that have to explore planetary surfaces, vision can play a key role in the improvement of autonomous navigation functionalities： besides obstacle avoidance and hazard detection along the traveling, vision can in fact provide accurate motion estimation in order to constantly monitor all paths executed by the rover. The present work basically regards the development of an effective visual odometry system, focusing as much as possible on issues such as continuous operating mode, system speed and reliability.

Vision Based qualitative localization or in the other word place recognition is an important perceptual problem at the center of several fundamental robot procedures. Place recognition approaches are utilized to solve the global localization problem. These methods are typically performed in a supervised mode. In this paper an appearance-based unsupervised place clustering and recognition algorithm are introduced. This method fuses several image features using Speedup Robust Features (SURF) by agglomerating them into the union form of features inside each place cluster. The number of place clusters can be extracted by investigating the SURF based scene similarity diagram between adjacent images. Experimental results show that this method is robust, accurate, efficient and able to create topological place clusters for solving the global localization problem with acceptable performance by the factor of clustering error and recognition precision. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper proposes a novel waveguide intersection separating two H-plane waveguide systems from each other. If a four-port network in a four-fold rotational symmetry is completely matched, it has necessarily intersection properties. The proposed waveguide intersection consists of a square H-plane waveguide planar circuit connected four input/ output waveguide ports in a four-fold rotational symmetry, and several metallic posts inserted at the junction without destroying the symmetry to realize a perfect matching. By optimizing the circuit parameters, high isolation properties are obtained in a relatively wide frequency band of about 8.6% for return loss and isolation better than 20 and 30 dB, respectively, for a circuit designed at 10 GHz. The proposed waveguide intersection can be analyzed by H-plane planar circuit approach, and possess advantages of compactness, simplicity, and high-power handling capability. Furthermore, an SIW intersection is designed by applying H-plane planar circuit approach to a waveguide circuit filled with dielectric material, and high isolation properties similar to H-plane waveguide intersection can be realized. Video piracy has become an increasing problem particularly with the proliferation of media sharing through the advancement of internet services and various storage technologies. Thus, research in copyright protection mechanisms, where one of which includes digital watermarking has been receiving an increasing interest from scientists especially in designing a seamless algorithm for effective implementation. Basically digital watermarking involves embedding secret symbols known as watermarks within video data which can be used later for copyright detection purposes. This paper presents the state of the art in video watermarking techniques. It provides a critical review on various available techniques. In addition, it addresses the main key performance indicators which include robustness, speed, capacity, fidelity, imperceptibility and computational complexity.

In this paper, a model to support optimal decisions in a network of microgrids is formalized as an original discrete and centralized problem defined here as cooperative network of smart power grids problem. The control variables are the instantaneous flows of power in the network of microgrids, which can be obtained from the solution of a linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) problem on a fixed time horizon. The state is represented by the energy stored in each microgrid. The goal is to minimize the variations of the energy stored in each storage device from a reference value, as well as to minimize the exchange of power between the microgrids. An application of the model is proposed taking into account wind and solar data in three sites in Liguria region (Castellari, Capo Vado and Savona). It is assumed that each microgrid is composed by a renewable hybrid energy system, a cluster of 100 households and a storage device.

In this paper, an optimization model of Green Hydrogen Refuelling Station (GHRS) is presented. The GHRS is powered completely by a wind farm to satisfy predefined hydrogen fuel and electrical energy demands. The model based on a mathematical programming is developed to control both energy and hydrogen flows exchanged among the system components. The optimization model has been applied on one week basis to a case study in the province of Savona, Italy. Optimal results are reported taking into account the presence of an additional hydrogen industrial market and a connection with the electrical network.
