The quality of virtual view based on multi-view video (MVD) plus depth format is often evaluated by PSNR or subjectively judged. However, due to synthesizing arbitrary view images, the virtual view images mostly have no reference images and are only assessed using non-reference. Virtual view images synthesized by depth estimation reference software (DERS) and view synthesis reference software (VSRS) often accompanied with blockiness and other distortions on the edge. In addition, matching level for the depth map and the corresponding texture maps of left and right views also affects the quality of the virtual view. This paper compares the edge similarity of the depth and the corresponding texture maps which generate the intermediate virtual view and combined with the virtual view's blockiness which causing blur to evaluate the quality of the virtual view. Experiment results show that the proposed method can reflect the quality of the virtual view better.

Modern days, a robot can be designed based on human needs. In particular, the line tracking robot is a classic introductory robot design and needs minimal amount of material and cost. The aim of this project is to construct a robot that has capability to follow the white line placed on a horizontal smooth surface lighted by LED and the low cost light dependant resistor as the sensor. Rigorous analysis has been applied to determine the optimal configuration for the sensor on the mobile robot. Our findings show that angle of LDR of 30°, the distance between LDR and LED of 2.5cm and height of 2cm is the best configuration. The line tracking robot will detect the light intensity that is rebounded from the white color path.

Depth maps are used for synthesis virtual view in free-viewpoint television (FTV) systems. When depth maps are derived using existing depth estimation methods, the depth distortions will cause undesirable artifacts in the synthesized views. To solve this problem, a 3D video quality model base depth maps (D-3DV) for virtual view synthesis and depth map coding in the FTV applications is proposed. First, the relationships between distortions in coded depth map and rendered view are derived. Then, a precisely 3DV quality model based depth characteristics is develop for the synthesized virtual views. Finally, based on D-3DV model, a multilateral filtering is applied as a pre-processed filter to reduce rendering artifacts. The experimental results evaluated by objective and subjective methods indicate that the proposed D-3DV model can reduce bit-rate of depth coding and achieve better rendering quality.

Skin detection is an essential step for important vision tasks such as the detection, tracking and recognition of face, segmentation of hand for gesture analysis, and person identification. Using skin color as a feature commonly raises problem related to the varying of lighting conditions due to the complex illuminated environment in the real world. Due to this problem, many researchers describe the lighting compensation algorithm as the best solution for such a problem that is indispensable for robust skin-tone color detection. This paper presents a study on the effect of light compensation on a skin color detection model which is based on the 2-dimensional normal distribution of the skin chromatic. A number of images captured in indoor and outdoor environments are used for the experiments to prove the effect of the studied algorithm. The findings show that the lighting compensation technique gives no significant effect on the performance of parametric skin detector model and therefore this problem demands for more research work.

A subcarrier - spectral amplitude coding optical code division multiple access system using the Khazani-Syed code with Complementary subtraction detection technique is proposed. The proposed system has been analyzed by taking into account the effects of phase-induced intensity noise, shot noise, thermal noise and intermodulation distortion noise. The performance of the system has been compared with the spectral amplitude coding optical code division multiple access system using the Hadamard code and the Modified Quadratic Congruence code. The analysis shows that the proposed system can eliminate the multiple access interference using the Complementary subtraction detection technique, and hence improve the overall system performance.

Tone mapping is a process for reproduction of High-Dynamic-Range images (HDR) for Low-Dynamic-Range (LDR) output devices. In this report, author presents a new local tone-mapping operator, derived from the Contrast Limited Adaptive histogram Equalization (CLAHE) technique for displaying high dynamic range image. The CLAHE is a method which was originally developed for medical imaging. This method has effectively expanded the full dynamic range of display and it is fully automatic. Due to different luminance intervals could result in overlapped reaction on the limited response in limited response range of visual system, scene region splitting and merging were used to segment the scaled luminance and perform the image segmentation to segment image into smaller part. After the region splitting and merging, there will be some noise or variation of intensity that may result in holes or over segmentation. As the result, the morphological operation, opening and closing were used to perform the mask to applied different clip limit of the CLAHE operation.

An embedded audio-video synchronous coding scheme based on mode selection is proposed in the paper. In H.264, many mode types are employed to conduct inter prediction for determining the best one to achieve good coding efficiency. In the paper, the audio information is embedded into video stream by modulating the best mode in inter prediction, and then synchronous coding is applied to the mixing video and audio. The modulation is based on the cost function and mapping rules between the mode types and the audio bits. We have verified the proposed scheme based on H.264/AVC using JM 11.0 and evaluated it by four objective indicators: the video quality, the embedded cost, the change of bit-rate and the change of total encoding time. The experimental results show that this scheme has achieved synchronous coding between audio and video with small influence on the above four objective indicators.

Recently, malware attacks have become more serious over the Internet by e-mail, denial of service (DoS) or distributed denial of service (DDoS). The Botnets have become a significant part of the Internet malware attacks. The traditional botnets include three parts - botmaster, command and control (C&C) servers and bots. The C&C servers receive commands from botmaster and control the distributions of computers remotely. Bots use DNS to find the positions of C&C server. In this paper, we propose an advanced hybrid peer-to-peer (P2P) botnet 2.0 (AHP2P botnet 2.0) using web 2.0 technology to hide the instructions from botmaster into social sites, which are regarded as C&C servers. Servent bots are regarded as sub-C&C servers to get the instructions from social sites. The AHP2P botnet 2.0 can evaluate the performance of servent bots, reduce DNS traffics from bots to C&C servers, and achieve harder detection bots actions than IRC-based botnets over the Internet.
