Constructing a hybrid activation and parameter-fusion based CNN medical image classifier

In recent years, numerous deep learning models for medical image classification have emerged, with varying accuracies influenced by factors like image quality, content, and the convoluted low-level features. In this article, we aim to identify key features that enhance the precision of convolutional neural networks (CNNs), which are widely employed in this domain. We empirically demonstrate that parameters like activation functions, image augmentation, convolutional layers, filter sizes, and max pooling significantly impact precision, while others like hidden layers, epochs, and batch sizes affect quality and runtime negatively. To validate our proposal, we use a publicly-available dataset of colored Breast Cancer images which comprises 27,751 images distributed over three sub-datasets as follows: 4162 testing images (2980 no cancer and 1182 with cancer), 19,426 training images (13,911 no cancer and 5515 with cancer), and 4163 validation images (2981 no cancer and 1182 with cancer). Multiple experimental runs were conducted, and the outcomes of each run were recorded, taking into account various evaluation metrics and components of the CNN architecture. Results demonstrate that the highest CNN classifier’s accuracy was achieved when coupling RelU and Sigmoid activation functions using a 3 × 3 filter with a batch of size 32 and 20 epochs and 2 hidden layers. A Similar accuracy rate (83.55%) has also been achieved when coupling ReLU and Sigmoid activation functions using the DensNet-201 pre-trained CNN model. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.

Sign language includes the motion of the arms and hands to communicate with people with hearing *** models have been available in the literature for sign language detection and classification for enhanced *** the latest advancements in computer vision enable us to perform signs/gesture recognition using deep neural *** paper introduces an Arabic Sign Language Gesture Classification using Deer Hunting Optimization with Machine Learning(ASLGC-DHOML)*** presented ASLGC-DHOML technique mainly concentrates on recognising and classifying sign language *** presented ASLGC-DHOML model primarily pre-processes the input gesture images and generates feature vectors using the densely connected network(DenseNet169)*** gesture recognition and classification,a multilayer perceptron(MLP)classifier is exploited to recognize and classify the existence of sign language ***,the DHO algorithm is utilized for parameter optimization of the MLP *** experimental results of the ASLGC-DHOML model are tested and the outcomes are inspected under distinct *** comparison analysis highlighted that the ASLGC-DHOML method has resulted in enhanced gesture classification results than other techniques with maximum accuracy of 92.88%.

The constantly rising threats in IT infrastructure raise many concerns for an organization, altering security requirements according to dynamically changing environment, need of midcourse decision management and deliberate evaluation of security measures are most striking. Common Criteria for IT security evaluation has long been considered to be victimized by uncertain IT infrastructure and considered resource hungry, complex and time consuming process. Considering this aspect we have continued our research quest for analyzing the opportunities to empower IT security evaluation process using Real Options thinking. The focus of our research is not only the applicability of real options analysis in IT security evaluation but also observing its implications in various domains including IT security investments and risk management. We find it motivating and worth doing to use an established method from corporate finance i.e. real options and utilize its rule of thumb technique as a road map to counter uncertainty issues for evaluation of IT products. We believe employing options theory in security evaluation will provide the intended benefits. i.e. i) manage dynamically changing security requirements ii) accelerating evaluation process iii) midcourse decision management. Having all the capabilities of effective uncertainty management, options theory follows work procedures based on mathematical calculations quite different from information security work processes. In this paper, we will address the diversities between the work processes of security evaluation and real options analysis. We present an adaptability infrastructure to bridge the gap and make them coherent with each other. This liaison will transform real options concepts into a compatible mode that provides grounds to target IT security evaluation and common criteria issues. We will address ESAM1 system as an example for illustrations and applicability of the concepts. Copyright 2009 ACM.

This paper presents a large gathering dataset of images extracted from publicly filmed videos by 24 cameras installed on the premises of Masjid Al-Nabvi,Madinah,Saudi *** dataset consists of raw and processed images reflecting a highly challenging and unconstraint *** methodology for building the dataset consists of four core phases;that include acquisition of videos,extraction of frames,localization of face regions,and cropping and resizing of detected face *** raw images in the dataset consist of a total of 4613 frames obtained fromvideo *** processed images in the dataset consist of the face regions of 250 persons extracted from raw data images to ensure the authenticity of the presented *** dataset further consists of 8 images corresponding to each of the 250 subjects(persons)for a total of 2000 *** portrays a highly unconstrained and challenging environment with human faces of varying sizes and pixel quality(resolution).Since the face regions in video sequences are severely degraded due to various unavoidable factors,it can be used as a benchmark to test and evaluate face detection and recognition algorithms for research *** have also gathered and displayed records of the presence of subjects who appear in presented frames;in a temporal *** can also be used as a temporal benchmark for tracking,finding persons,activity monitoring,and crowd counting in large crowd scenarios.

Next generation Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) needs seamless connectivity with high level of quality of services (QoS) and high data rates services. The complexity of VANET raises concern about the QoS and the reliability of the communication handover which refer to the connectivity and operation of conveying an ongoing call or data session between Vehicles to Vehicles (V2V) and Vehicles to Infrastructure (V2I) in VANET communication mode. This communication faces a huge challenge. The vehicles are moving so fast and highly dynamic that may cause frequent handover which may cause signal delay and communication loss. This paper provides an up-to-date literature of handover schemes for VANET over LTE-A wireless network. A discussion on thumbnail of the key decision parameters to be used in the handover algorithm and comparative summary of selected scheme for VANET over LTE-A concludes this work. This study, thus contributes to the understanding of the available options and gaps for further studies and standardization activities to this area of research. © 2018 IEEE.

Construct Protein-Protein Interaction Network by Mining Domain-Domain Interactions

Domain-domain interactions are important clues to inferring protein-protein interactions. Although about 8 000 domain-domain interactions are discovered so far,they are just the tip of the iceberg. Because domains are conservative and commonplace in proteins,domain-domain interactions are discovered based on pairs of domains which significantly co-exist in proteins. Meanwhile,it is realized that:( 1) domain-domain interactions may exist within the same proteins or across different proteins;( 2) only the domain-domain interactions across different proteins can mediate interactions between proteins;( 3) domains have biases to interact with other domains. And then,a novel method is put forward to construct protein-protein interaction network by using domain-domain interactions. The method is validated by experiments and compared with the state- of-art methods in the field. The experimental results suggest that the method is reasonable and effectiveness on constructing Protein-protein interactions network.

An upper bound on bit error rate for concatenated convolutional code

This paper presents a new upper bound on overall bit error rate (BER) for a concatenated code which consists of an inner convolutional code and an outer interleaved Reed-Solomon code. The upper bound on BER is derived based on a lower bound on the effective minimum distance of the concatenated code. This upper bound can be used for the cases when the interleaver size is small such that the conventional upper bound is not applicable.

Peer-to-Peer(P2P)electricity trading is a significant research area that offers maximum fulfilment for both prosumer and *** also decreases the quantity of line loss incurred in Smart Grid(SG).But,uncertainities in demand and supply of the electricity might lead to instability in P2P market for both prosumer and *** recent times,numerous Machine Learning(ML)-enabled load predictive techniques have been developed,while most of the existing studies did not consider its implicit features,optimal parameter selection,and prediction *** order to overcome fulfill this research gap,the current research paper presents a new Multi-Objective Grasshopper Optimisation Algorithm(MOGOA)with Deep Extreme Learning Machine(DELM)-based short-term load predictive technique i.e.,MOGOA-DELM model for P2P Energy Trading(ET)in *** proposed MOGOA-DELM model involves four distinct stages of operations namely,data cleaning,Feature Selection(FS),prediction,and parameter *** addition,MOGOA-based FS technique is utilized in the selection of optimum subset of ***,DELM-based predictive model is also applied in forecasting the load *** proposed MOGOA model is also applied in FS and the selection of optimalDELM parameters to improve the predictive *** inspect the effectual outcome of the proposed MOGOA-DELM model,a series of simulations was performed using UK Smart Meter *** the experimentation procedure,the proposed model achieved the highest accuracy of 85.80%and the results established the superiority of the proposed model in predicting the testing data.

Heating in the ocean has continued in 2024 in response to increased greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere,despite the transition from an El Ni?o to neutral conditions. In 2024, both global sea surface temperature(SST) and upper2000 m ocean heat content(OHC) reached unprecedented highs in the historical record. The 0–2000 m OHC in 2024exceeded that of 2023 by 16 ± 8 ZJ(1 Zetta Joules = 1021 Joules, with a 95% confidence interval)(IAP/CAS data), which is confirmed by two other data products: 18 ± 7 ZJ(CIGAR-RT reanalysis data) and 40 ± 31 ZJ(Copernicus Marine data,updated to November 2024). The Indian Ocean, tropical Atlantic, Mediterranean Sea, North Atlantic, North Pacific, and Southern Ocean also experienced record-high OHC values in 2024. The global SST continued its record-high values from2023 into the first half of 2024, and declined slightly in the second half of 2024, resulting in an annual mean of 0.61°C ±0.02°C(IAP/CAS data) above the 1981–2010 baseline, slightly higher than the 2023 annual-mean value(by 0.07°C ±0.02°C for IAP/CAS, 0.05°C ± 0.02°C for NOAA/NCEI, and 0.06°C ± 0.11°C for Copernicus Marine). The record-high values of 2024 SST and OHC continue to indicate unabated trends of global heating.
