As the computer data storage capacity increases and technology of digital imaging progresses rapidly, today we can access and manipulate huge image database on the Internet. How to search and access intelligently on content based image database become an important focus in the field of multimedia research. In this study, a preliminary system of grid-distributed, contextual and semantic based, intelligent information access framework for medical images database was designed to integrate with radiology reports and clinical department information. A prototyping was established with a model of intelligent diagnostic and therapeutic decision support for brain degenerative diseases among radiologist and neurologist. Dementia was the first disease selected for implementation. In the future, the system will extend its spectrum of diseases and more clinical specialties. © 2007 IEEE.

This position paper presents an approach to managing such complexity based on a combination of aspect-oriented development techniques, and modeldriven development.

Noise reduction is an important image processing method which has wide applications in different fields. The key to noise reduction is to reduce the noise without deteriorating the important features in the images. Anisotropic diffusion filter is one of the methods which satisfy this need and draws much attention from researchers in the past. However, traditional anisotropic diffusion filter has many disadvantages, such as the sensitivity to the noise. In this paper, an improved anisotropic diffusion filter for preprocessing noised MR images is presented. The improved anisotropic diffusion filter uses adaptive threshold selection and a new gradient computation method, which is robust to noise. The proposed method was applied to real MR images and the results are impressive. © 2007 IEEE.

This paper studies a Directional Antenna Multi-path Location Aided Routing (DA-MLAR) scheme with on demand transmission power support. The targeted application contexts include communications in space networks, where efficient and reliable packet delivery is very challenging due to the high bit error rate, intermittent connectivity, limited bandwidth and energy. This research enhances our DA-MLAR protocol with On Demand Transmission Power (ODTP) capability. By using different transmission power based on the calculated distance from the current sender node to the destination node or the next hop node, DA-MLAR-ODTP gets the best of the directional and omni-directional modes. Compared to DA-MLAR, on demand transmission power mode further improves the packet delivery ratio by up to 37% and dwindles end-to-end delay by up to 57% with more or less the same amount of energy consumption. Simulation experiments show that this is a promising technique for more reliable communications in MANET with energy and other constraints. © 2007 IEEE.

In the oil-gas prediction of seismic reservoir, the traditional method directly classify by attribute. However, the dimension of input information is so large that the calculation is time-consuming, the storage capacity demanding and the network structure complex. Moreover it is easy to be caught in local minimum in the sample learning. Therefore, a method of oil-gas prediction in seismic reservoir based on rough set and PSO algorithm is presented. The main process is to reduce the seismic attributes by the method of attribute reduction in rough set, which can simplify the input structure and reduce the time needed to train those involved. The prediction system of neural network based on PSO algorithm can overcome many disadvantages in traditional BP network, and improve the training process. The simulation experiments and actual examples show the network structure constructed by attribute reduction not only can achieve the prediction precision, but also can save cost, improve process speed and have notable effect on oil-gas prediction. ©2007 IEEE.

Mass-mailing threats have made a serious impact on the Internet. These junk mails consume valuable network resources and possibly are used as carriers for virus/worms, trojans, phishing and DDoS attacks. Through an analysis of a number of mass-mailing spams collected from ISPs (Internet Service Provider), this paper is focused on fundamental mailing behaviors and mail header of mass-mailing spam, it also puts forward a new approach to detecting abnormal host by mining mailing traffic data using the theory of decision trees. The approach can suppress and stop distribution of mass-mailing threats on the Internet. The experiment to apply it to mailing traffic data captured at ISPs indicates that the accuracy rate can be 99% with this approach.

This paper is devoted to stability analysis and anti-windup design for linear time-delay systems subject to actuator saturation. A new Lyapunov-Krasovskii approach is presented, and a direct design algorithm is derived to compute the anti-windup compensator gain, which reduces the conservatism greatly. Both delay-independent asymptotic stability (DIAS) and delay-dependent asymptotic stability (DDAS) are dealt with respectively. Numerical examples are employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

In this study, Kinesio Tape is used in patients with lateral epicondylitis. The ultrasonic image sequences of elbow are recorded dynamically, and then motion tracking is applied to assist in understanding the effect of the therapy. Motion tracking, based on optical flow method, is used to track certain landmark on the ultrasound image, which is very ambiguous, for estimating the motion of muscle. Hierarchical block tracking technique is proposed to perform this task. The motions with and without Kinesio Taping are compared and can be used as quantitative indicators for the treatment. The experimental results show that Kinesio Taping makes the motion of muscle on the ultrasonic images enlarge. It means that the performance of muscle motion gets improve.
