The timely detection and classification of biological agents in a hostile environment is critical for increasing protection in critical areas. This paper proposes a strategy for identifying biological agents via distributed sensors with an artificial immune system (AIS). The proposed system is composed of networked sensors and nodes, communicating via wireless or wired connections. Measurements are continually taken via dispersed redundant sensors strategically placed in threat areas. These sensors continually measure and categorize air or liquid samples, alerting surrounding nodes when possible biological agents are detected. Detection is based upon the biological immune system (BIS) model of antigens and antibodies, and alerts are generated when a measured sample is determined to be a valid biological agent (antigen). Biological agent signatures (antibodies) are continually distributed throughout the system to adapt to changes in the environment or to new antigens.

We present a control framework for robot systems to perform dynamic manipulation tasks, with robotic batting as an example. A properly preplanned trajectory for manipulators is recognized to be important to increase the probability of success. A nominal path for a manipulator to travelin a swing motion is computed while optimizing the stochastic dynamic manipulability measure to cope with the unpredictable deviation of the ball. A nominal trajectory along the path is then planned in a minimum-time fashion for the benefit of catching the ball as accurately as possible, thebehavior of which is observed visually and estimated on-line. A control structure consisting interpolatively of a path velocity controller to follow the nominal trajectory and a resolved-acceleration-natured ball-deviation compensating controller, together with a ball motion prediction, isproposed. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is examined using computer simulations. The strategy provided in this paper will be useful to make manipulators perform further task requirements better for a wide range of dynamic manipulations. © VSP and Robotics Society of Japan 1998.

Three-phase four-leg four-wire voltage source inverter (3P4L4W VSI) attracts more attention in many power electronics applications due to its flexibility for both balanced and unbalanced loads, where the power efficiency is a critical point. Conventional Si semiconductor devices suffer from large switching loss due to large parasitic capacitances and thus limit its switching frequency. As a result, it further limits the power density and efficiency improvement. The SiC/Si hybrid switch formed by SiC-MOSFET and Si-IGBT in parallel (SiC/Si HyS) can improve the switching frequency with high efficiency and low cost, which helps to design a power converter with high power density and high efficiency. However, the application of SiC/Si HyS in 3P4L4W faces some challenges, such as the drive circuit design, the proper delay selection, etc.. In this paper, a SiC/Si HyS based 3P4L4W VSI is introduced and the optimal turn-off time delay selection for the SiC/Si HyS used in 3P4L4W VSI is analyzed. A systematical way to calculate the power loss in the SiC/Si HyS is presented. A 5-kW/50kHz 3P4L4W VSI is taken as an example for validating the theory and method. It is found the peak efficiency of the 3P4L4W VSI is 97.5%, and the unbalanced phase load leads to more power loss and degrade the efficiency. The work in this paper provides practical guidance for a SiC/Si HyS based 3P4L4W VSI inverter design. © 2021 IEEE.

DL-SLOT: Dynamic Lidar SLAM and Object Tracking Based On Graph Optimization

Ego-pose estimation and dynamic object tracking are two key issues in an autonomous driving system. Two assumptions are often made for them, i.e. the static world assumption of simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) and the exact ego-pose assumption of object tracking, respectively. However, these assumptions are difficult to hold in highly dynamic road scenarios where SLAM and object tracking become correlated and mutually beneficial. In this paper, DL-SLOT, a dynamic Lidar SLAM and object tracking method is proposed. This method integrates the state estimations of both the ego vehicle and the static and dynamic objects in the environment into a unified optimization framework, to realize SLAM and object tracking (SLOT) simultaneously. Firstly, we implement object detection to remove all the points that belong to potential dynamic objects. Then, LiDAR odometry is conducted using the filtered point cloud. At the same time, detected objects are associated with the history object trajectories based on the time-series information in a sliding window. The states of the static and dynamic objects and ego vehicle in the sliding window are integrated into a unified local optimization framework. We perform SLAM and object tracking simultaneously in this framework, which significantly improves the robustness and accuracy of SLAM in highly dynamic road scenarios and the accuracy of objects' states estimation. Experiments on public datasets have shown that our method achieves better accuracy than A-LOAM. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In the field of wireless industrial automation networks (WIANs), the WirelessHART and ISA100.11a protocols are promoted, which support time division and carriersensing multiple access schemes, channel hopping schemes, and mesh network topology to improve reliability and scalability. However, they work on the 2.4-GHz non-licensed industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) frequency band. This band has become crowded in industrial applications, i.e., ZigBee, Bluetooth and wireless local area networks (WLAN), which has led to coexistence issues. Here, we investigated experimentally the data link layer packet loss rate ofWirelessHART and ISA100.11a protocols coexisting with IEEE 802.15.4 and IEEE 802.11n-based WLAN interference systems. The experimental testbed comprised WirelessHART, ISA100.11a, ZigBee, and IEEE 802.11n-based WLAN systems. During the test, either the WirelessHART or the ISA100.11a served as the system under test and the other systems were used for wireless interferences. WirelessHART and ISA100.11a field devices were developed to set up WirelessHART and ISA100.11a networks systems. All the systems were distributed in a wide and real industrial environment with metal structures and industrial equipment generating interference. Finally, a series of experiments was performed. The experimental results and analysis provide useful information on coexistence issues for system designers and standard developers of WIANs. © 2015 IEEE.

Occupants' comfort is the primary target in a building operation. However their efforts are often neglected and ruled out from traditional control strategies of energy-efficient building management systems. Occupant-engaged control strategies have recently attracted many research attentions and demonstrated great potentials for energy saving. With them, occupants' behavior is incorporated into the closed-loop control methods in which their initiatives actively contribute to building services and energy utility by explicitly expressing their preferences. This work proposes an occupant-engaged demand response (DR) strategy for building automation in which occupants are actively engaged to adapt their energy consumption in response to incentive opportunities designed by facility managers. A model-based study and a Nash-Equilibrium-based solution are provided to assist facility managers with the design of social incentive policies to promote occupant participation, along with the guarantee of lucrativeness for a DR event.

The detection of S100 Calcium Binding Protein A6, a useful cholangiocarcinoma marker, has been demonstrated for the first time using silicon nitride photonic resonator sensor. The sensor was designed and fabricated by low-cost 500 nm technology. Label-free sensing results based on the reactions between anti-S100A6 antibody and S100A6 antigen, showed good sensitivity and specificity. This sensing technique has potential in low-cost and low-level detection of the biomarker, deserving further study. © 2022 IEEE.

With the rapid development of service-oriented computing (SOC) and service-oriented architecture (SOA), the number of services is rapidly increasing. How to organize and manage services effectively in repositories to improve the efficiency of service discovery and composition is important. This paper proposes three categorization rules to classify services for a large scale repository to form a relational taxonomy. The service retrieve scope can be drastically narrowed by this taxonomy. Therefore, the efficiency of service discovery and service composition can be greatly improved. We evaluate and compare the performance of the proposed method and other related ones via a publicly available test set, ICEBE05. The experimental results validate the effectiveness and high efficiency of the proposed one.

Identifying vulnerabilities in binary code with precision is a critical area of study in the field of software security. Most existing techniques fail to pinpoint the vulnerability's exact location, due to the extensive labelled data requirement and lack of targeted approach to improve on the problematic code. In this paper, we introduce VulPin, a system specifically designed to pinpoint vulnerabilities in binary code. This framework uses a hierarchical attention network that analyze program slices along with a vulnerability position matrix. Experimental outcomes indicate that our framework not only outperforms existing approaches but also pinpoints vulnerabilities more rapidly with a high Accuracy and a very low rate of false positives.

The Emory Knee Radiograph (MRKR) dataset is a large, demographically diverse collection of 503,261 knee radiographs from 83,011 patients, 40% of which are African American. This dataset provides imaging data in DICOM format along with detailed clinical information, including patient-reported pain scores, diagnostic codes, and procedural codes, which are not commonly available in similar datasets. The MRKR dataset also features imaging metadata such as image laterality, view type, and presence of hardware, enhancing its value for research and model development. MRKR addresses significant gaps in existing datasets by offering a more representative sample for studying osteoarthritis and related outcomes, particularly among minority populations, thereby providing a valuable resource for clinicians and researchers. © 2024, CC BY-SA.
