Feature selection makes machine learning models less complex, more accurate, and more interpretable. The Slime Mould Algorithm (SMA) is a bio-inspired technique that leverages the demeanour of slime moulds to solve optimisation problems efficiently. This survey paper aims to deliver an extensive review of the recent research works involving the application of SMA as well as SMA fused with other optimisation methods to develop a solution for the feature selection problems. This involves summarizing and categorizing relevant research papers, methodologies, and findings. The survey paper consolidates and structures the existing knowledge about how the SMA is applied in the context of feature selection. Personalized Federated Learning (PFL) has recently received significant interest due to its capability of generating customized models for data-heterogeneous clients. Previous work focuses on weight adaptation to fit the data distribution while ignoring the correlation between various data distributions and their corresponding model structures. In this paper, we introduce a new paradigm called data-aware structure personalization, aiming to personalize the model structure according to the data distribution of each client during FL. Specifically, we develop CMoS, a framework to Customize Model Structures for heterogeneous client data in a learning-based manner. The key idea is to gradually learn a data-aware sub-structure from the original model at each federated round, which is achieved by introducing a newly designed binary mask and a sparsity loss during local training. Extensive experiments on multiple scenarios demonstrate the effectiveness of CMoS in generating personalized models with superior performance.

Prior Knowledge-Driven Hybrid Prompter Learning for RGB-Event Tracking

Event data can asynchronously capture variations in light intensity, thereby implicitly providing valuable complementary cues for RGB-Event tracking. Existing methods typically employ a direct interaction mechanism to fuse RGB and event data. However, due to differences in imaging mechanisms, the representational disparity between these two data types is not fixed, which can lead to tracking failures in certain challenging scenarios. To address this issue, we propose a novel prior knowledge-driven hybrid prompter learning framework for RGB-Event tracking. Specifically, we develop a frame-event hybrid prompter that leverages prior tracking knowledge from the foundation model as intermediate modal support to mitigate the heterogeneity between RGB and event data. By leveraging its rich prior tracking knowledge, the intermediate modal reduces the gap between the dense RGB and sparse event data interactions, effectively guiding complementary learning between modalities. Meanwhile, to mitigate the internal learning disparities between the lightweight hybrid prompter and the deep transformer model, we introduce a pseudo-prompt learning strategy that lies between full fine-tuning and partial fine-tuning. This strategy adopts a divide-and-conquer approach to assign different learning rates to modules with distinct functions, effectively reducing the dominant influence of RGB information in complex scenarios. Extensive experiments conducted on two public RGB-Event tracking datasets show that the proposed HPL outperforms state-of-the-art tracking methods, achieving exceptional performance. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

The equipment digital twins (EDTs) for discrete manufacturing should be calibrated quickly to avoid irreversible physical damage to the equipment caused by biased control commands. Therefore, an online credibility assessment method for EDTs is urgently needed. However, existing assessment approaches consume too much time, and thus could not reveal dynamic faults in time. In this paper, the dynamic relationship between online evolution and actual applications of EDTs is investigated. Then, two steps are proposed to accelerate the assessment process significantly. One involves pre-constructing a performance-deviation-agent (PDA), and the other involves dynamically fitting the application-time-window (ATW) probability distribution. The methodology is applicable to discrete manufacturing processes. The dynamic credibility of EDT evolution process can be updated after every iteration of the model evolution. Sorting manufacturing equipment was used as a case study to demonstrate the effectiveness of this method. The time consumption was reduced by 90% compared with traditional assessment methods in the case. © 2025 IEEE.

This work presents an adaptive tracking guidance method for robotic fishes. The scheme enables robots to suppress external interference and eliminate motion jitter. An adaptive integral surge line-of-sight guidance rule is designed to eliminate dynamics interference and sideslip issues. Limited-time yaw and surge speed observers are reported to fit disturbance variables in the model. The approximation values can compensate for the system's control input and improve the robots' tracking ***, this work develops a terminal sliding mode controller and third-order differential processor to determine the rotational torque and reduce the robots' run jitter. Then, Lyapunov's theory proves the uniform ultimate boundedness of the proposed method. Simulation and physical experiments confirm that the technology improves the tracking error convergence speed and stability of robotic fishes.

Streaming graph processing needs to timely evaluate continuous queries. Prior systems suffer from massive redundant computations due to the irregular order of processing vertices influenced by updates. To address this issue, we propose ACGraph, a novel streaming graph processing approach for monotonic graph algorithms. It maintains dependence trees during runtime, and makes affected vertices processed in a top-to-bottom order in the hierarchy of the dependence trees, thus normalizing the state propagation order and coalescing of multiple propagation to the same vertices. Experimental results show that ACGraph reduces the number of updates by 50% on average, and achieves the speedup of 1.75~7.43× over state-of-the-art systems.

Device connectivity has been redefined by the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT) technology, enabling diverse applications in areas such as smart cities, smart homes, and healthcare. These applications produce massive amounts of data, making it a significant challenge to offload tasks to cloud servers. However, the physical distance between devices often leads to latency issues for IoT systems, impacting time-sensitive applications. Fog computing tackles this issue by processing data closer to IoT devices. However, a high user density can strain the capacity of a macro base station, potentially leading to congestion. Drone Base Stations (DBSs) provide a flexible solution by acting as mobile relays to reduce latency and traffic burden. To address this issue, this work proposes a drone-assisted load distribution strategy in IoT networks. In our proposed approach, we deploy DBS efficiently using a greedy optimization technique. However, after the deployment of DBS, an optimal base station assignment framework dynamically connects user equipment to the most suitable base station, helping to minimize latency and enhance network performance. This dual-phase approach provides a scalable and practical solution for realtime IoT applications. Through extensive simulations, ensures that our proposed approach achieves a more balanced assignment compared to baseline algorithms.

This paper proposes a new hybrid algorithm, combining FA, SSO, and the N-R method to accelerate convergence towards global optima, named the Hybrid Firefly Algorithm and Sperm Swarm Optimization with Newton-Raphson (HFASSON). The performance of HFASSON is evaluated using 23 benchmark functions from the CEC 2017 suite, tested in 30, 50, and 100 dimensions. A statistical comparison is performed to assess the effectiveness of HFASSON against FA, SSO, HFASSO, and five hybrid algorithms: Water Cycle Moth Flame Optimization (WCMFO), Hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization and Genetic Algorithm (HPSOGA), Hybrid Sperm Swarm Optimization and Gravitational Search Algorithm (HSSOGSA), Grey Wolf and Cuckoo Search Algorithm (GWOCS), and Hybrid Firefly Genetic Algorithm (FAGA). Results from the Friedman rank test show the superior performance of HFASSON. Additionally, HFASSON is applied to Cognitive Radio Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (CR-VANET), outperforming basic CR-VANET in spectrum utilization. Placement is a critical task with high computation complexity in VLSI physical design. Modern analytical placers formulate the placement objective as a nonlinear optimization task, which suffers a long iteration time. To accelerate and enhance the placement process, recent studies have turned to deep learning-based approaches, particularly leveraging graph convolution networks (GCNs). However, learning-based placers require time- and data-consuming model training due to the complexity of circuit placement that involves large-scale cells and design-specific graph statistics. This paper proposes GiFt, a parameter-free technique for accelerating placement, rooted in graph signal processing. GiFt excels at capturing multi-resolution smooth signals of circuit graphs to generate optimized placement solutions without the need for time-consuming model training, and meanwhile significantly reduces the number of iterations required by analytical placers. Experimental results show that GiFt significantly improving placement efficiency, while achieving competitive or superior performance compared to state-of-the-art placers. In particular, compared to DREAMPlace, the recently proposed GPU-accelerated analytical placer, GF-Placer improves total runtime over 45%. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s).

While the collection of users’ live or periodic electricity consumption data brings significant advantages for the operation of smart grids, it also heightens the risk of user privacy leakage. Numerous data aggregation schemes have been proposed to address this issue. However, most of these schemes either fail to accommodate the need for multifunctional data analysis or rely on a trusted third party (TTP). Given the efficient data processing capabilities offered by fog computing, we propose a blockchain-based privacy-preserving data aggregation (BPRM) scheme supporting multifunctionality for fog-assisted smart grid without TTP. This scheme ensures data confidentiality and data integrity while providing various statistical functions. In addition, we implement a consensus mechanism between smart meters, further enhancing the security and robustness of the smart grid system. Moreover, not only does the proposed the batch verification reduce the authentication costs but also support error detection in signatures. With BPRM, data center can calculate multiple statistical functions, achieving a win-win strategy. Extensive security and performance analyses demonstrate that BPRM can withstand various security threats and effectively protect user privacy while maintaining efficiency in both computational and communication overhead. © 2014 IEEE.
