Image-based systems have gained popularity owing to their capacity to provide rich manufacturing status information, low implementation costs, and high acquisition rates. However, the complexity of the image background and various anomaly patterns pose new challenges to existing matrix decomposition methods, which are inadequate for modeling requirements. Moreover, the uncertainty of the anomaly can cause anomaly contamination problems, making the designed model and method highly susceptible to external disturbances. To address these challenges, we propose a two-step strategy anomaly detection method that detects anomalies by identifying suspected patches (Ano-SuPs). Specifically, we propose to detect the patches with anomalies by reconstructing the input image twice: the first step is to obtain a set of normal patches by removing those suspected patches, and the second step is to use those normal patches to refine the identification of the patches with anomalies. To demonstrate its effectiveness, we evaluate the proposed method systematically through simulation experiments and case studies. On Improved Commutation for Moving-Magnet Planar Actuators

The demand for high-precision and high-throughput motion control systems has increased significantly in recent years. The use of moving-magnet planar actuators (MMPAs) is gaining popularity due to their advantageous characteristics, such as complete environmental decoupling and reduction of stage mass. Nonetheless, model-based commutation techniques for MMPAs are compromised by misalignment between the mover and coil array and mismatch between the ideal electromagnetic model and the physical system, often leading to decreased system performance. To address this issue, a novel improved commutation approach is proposed in this paper, which is applicable for general planar motor applications, by means of dynamic regulation of the position dependence of the ideal model-based commutation algorithm, which allows for attenuation of magnetic misalignment, manufacturing inaccuracies and other unmodelled phenomena. Short-circuit problems in unbalanced radial distribution networks have become more common as a result of distributed generation connectivity and smart grid advancements. An accurate and effective strategy for assessing these faults due to short circuits is presented in this study. In contrast to traditional methods, this approach uses relationship matrices that are created expressly to take use of distribution network's radial characteristics. Through the examination of variations in bus voltages, bus current injections, and branch currents during fault conditions, the suggested method formulates the analysis of various fault types. The accuracy of developed method has been validated on IEEE-123 bus modified test network by comparing the obtained results with PSCAD/EMTDC simulation results.

With increasing numbers of mobile robots arriving in real-world applications, more robots coexist in the same space, interact, and possibly collaborate. Methods to provide such systems with system size scalability are known, for example, from swarm robotics. Example strategies are self-organizing behavior, a strict decentralized approach, and limiting the robot-robot communication. Despite applying such strategies, any multi-robot system breaks above a certain critical system size (i.e., number of robots) as too many robots share a resource (e.g., space, communication channel). We provide additional evidence based on simulations, that at these critical system sizes, the system performance separates into two phases: nearly optimal and minimal performance. We speculate that in real-world applications that are configured for optimal system size, the supposedly high-performing system may actually live on borrowed time as it is on a transient to breakdown. We provide two modeling options (based on queueing theory and a population model) that may help to support this reasoning.

systems of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and partial differential equations (PDEs) are extensively used in many fields of science, including physics, biochemistry, nonlinear control, and dynamical systems. On the one hand, analytical methods for solving systems of ODEs/PDEs mostly remain an art and are largely insufficient for complex systems. On the other hand, numerical approximation methods do not yield a viable analytical form of the solution that is often required for downstream tasks. In this paper, we present an approximate approach for solving systems of ODEs/PDEs analytically using solvers like Gurobi developed in Operations Research (OR). Our main idea is to represent entire functions as Bézier curves/surfaces with to-be-determined control points. The ODEs/PDEs as well as their boundary conditions can then be reformulated as constraints on these control points. In many cases, this reformulation yields quadratic programming problems (QPPs) that can be solved in polynomial time. It also allows us to reason about inequalities. This paper discusses and proposes a method for predicting and analyzing the current user interests based on their characteristics including their own recently acquired web content, and it is used. The traditional methods of using cookies on browsers and capturing users’ web activities cannot be used in the future for privacy reasons. It is difficult for anyone other than the users themselves to obtain accurate web activities. Thus, all methods based on the identification of individual users, such as user similarity comparisons between users, are no longer available. This paper focuses on the web content information obtained by users of each web service. Assuming that the web content acquired by each user contains his or her current interests at that point in time, a combinable machine learning model named the fog model is acquired from web content that is similar to these features. The fog models are then combined in the same manner along the most recent web activities. The combined fog models include the features of each web service, which can be considered to be equivalent to the features obtained by accumulating and analyzing the entire content. As an evaluation of the proposed method, the performance of the proposed method is compared to that of the conventional method using cookies on the data from targeted advertisements. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Solar energy is considered one of the best essential energy sources to solve the present power crisis. The solar photovoltaic system has a low conversion efficiency that inflicts maximum power extractions. The non-linear relationship between the voltage and current insists on using a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controller. Perturb and observe (P&O) MPPT controller is popular because of its simple design and cost-effectiveness features;nonetheless, it has drawbacks while operating under partial shading conditions (PSC). The maximum power trapezium (MPT) method modified the P&O algorithm by incorporating an appropriate scanning mechanism for PSC. Despite having good PSC performance, this method's tracking time is much longer than the conventional algorithm in both uniform irradiance conditions (UIC) and PSC. The algorithm proposed in this paper modifies the MPT method with an extra strategy to distinguish between the UIC and PSC. If the pattern is recognized as UIC, the proposed method utilizes the conventional P&O algorithm to track the MPP;otherwise, scanning techniques are being used. The proposed algorithm's operation was tested on simulation using distinct UIC and PSC patterns and worked effectively. © 2022 IEEE.

Internet of Vehicles (IoV) frameworks integrate smart vehicles, roads, network infrastructures, and users into one system, enhancing environmental awareness, increasing efficiency, and reducing accidents. Although IoV is widely adopted, it has resulted in an increase in global energy demand, necessitating more robust and reliable energy solutions. In order to meet this growing demand, both traditional and distributed energy generation technologies have been developed, particularly renewable energy sources (RES). In order to ensure seamless operation of smart vehicles and related infrastructure, integrating renewable energy into existing grid infrastructure is essential. This enables stable and efficient power supply to IoV systems, especially during time periods of high demand. As part of this shift, it is important to accurately forecast the energy generation load of individual prosumers—entities that both produce and consume energy—because of their intermittent and dynamic nature. Therefore, we propose Block-FeST, a blockchain-based Federated Learning (FL) framework designed to predict the energy generation patterns of RES prosumers while preserving their private and sensitive data. Within this Block-FeST framework, a Sparse Transformer model is used to forecast energy generation among prosumer clients. Additionally, blockchain technology is integrated into the Block-FeST framework to enable distributed aggregation and securely validate and record the local parameters shared by clients. The results indicate that Block-FeST is superior to the second-best baseline method, with improvements of 20.4% in the mean square error (MSE), 13.7% in mean absolute error (MAE) and 19.3% in root mean square error (RMSE) for a long sequence length of 128. © 2014 IEEE.

Whereas the reception task is a promising application domain for social robots, knowledge is lacking about how to design the appropriate re-usable communication styles for a reception robot. This paper presents the use and evaluation of an iterative interaction-design (ID) method with which task- and person-oriented multi-modal communication styles have been designed for such a robot. First, we report on an evaluation study of the ID-method with Industrial Design students (N =13) who designed these two communication styles for a Pepper robot. This provided a set of distinct designs of the two styles, for which the differences in design parameters were in line with social science theory. The task-oriented style showed a more formal, shorter and less chatty communication. Second, we present findings from a Mechanical Turk study conducted to evaluate the perception of these style designs. Participants (N =301) were presented with videos showing the robot acting as a receptionist and were asked to rate their perception of the robot, the service experience and the orientation of the designs. Overall, the interaction with the robot was appreciated well. The robot with a person-oriented style was perceived to be more animate and likeable. Analysis showed that chit-chat was the main contributor to the perceived difference between the person-oriented and task-oriented styles. This is an important finding as it gives interaction designers a validated best-practice approach to make interaction style more or less personal.

Satellite high aerial platform terrestrial integrated networks have become the hot topic these years, which have been regarded as the major part of the intelligence of things for future networks. During this work, we investigate the secrecy performance for rate-splitting multiple access-assisted satellite high aerial platform terrestrial integrated networks. Besides, imperfect hardware and channel estimation errors are considered in the secrecy networks. Moreover, to enhance the energy utilization efficiency, rate-splitting multiple access scheme is utilized into the considered network, which is prior to that of the non-orthogonal multiple access scheme. What's more, to enhance the satellite transmission, multiple high aerial platforms are used to forward the transmission along with multiple eavesdroppers. In addition, the direct transmission link is not considered in the secrecy networks due to the heavy fading and obstacles. Relied on the former considerations, the exact and asymptotic analysis for the secrecy performance is further obtained to confirm the rightness of the analysis.
