The main goal of the paper is to develop automatic control design methods for flexible aircraft. The motivation for the research is that such automatic control generation enables the inclusion of the control design algorithms into the multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) of aircraft design. In such an extended MDO framework, called co-design, the sizing, structural dynamics, aerodynamics and the controllers of the aircraft are optimized in one single step. This way control technologies can be included early-on in the preliminary design stage of aircraft design. Since the control design is model based, first a control oriented aeroservoelastic (ASE) model needs to be developed. The modeling is done via the bottomup modelling approach. The model generation also needs to be automatic due to parameter changes resulting from the MDO process. The research focuses on flexible aircraft, therefore, the control algorithms include baseline, manoeuvre load alleviation, gust load alleviation and flutter suppression controllers. All of these algorithms needs to be developed in such way that they can automatically executed in the MDO process. The overall MDO framework is implemented in the Remote Component Environment (RCE) and the aircraft investigated is the T-Flex demonstrator of the FLIPASED project. The paper presents the main concepts of the modeling and control synthesis, analysis for the above mentioned four controllers and the most important aspects of integrating such automatic control design methods into the RCE environment. © 2023, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. Clustering algorithms are crucial in uncovering hidden patterns and structures within datasets. Among the density-based clustering algorithms, DBSCAN (Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise) has gained considerable attention for its effectiveness in various applications. However, determining appropriate parameter values for this algorithm remains a challenging task. This paper presents a novel methodology for eps parameter estimation for an improved DBSCAN, namely SS-DBSCAN. The experimental results across nine datasets demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed method in accurately determining clusters with eps value from SS-DBSCAN algorithm. The clusters identified using estimated eps values by SS-DBSCAN align well with the inherent structure of the datasets, yielding better cluster results than the manually set parameters and other methods used for automatic estimations of the eps for DBSCAN. Our approach adapted well to the peculiarities of each dataset, whether dealing with different scales, dimensions, or densities;it proved the versatility and robustness across various datasets, thereby emphasizing its generalizability and potential for broader applications. © 2023 IEEE.

The electromagnetic interference (EMI) problem caused by power electronic switching devices and pulse width modulation (PWM) affects the normal operation of the motor drive system. In this paper, a random PWM based on unified modulation is proposed for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive system. The theoretical basis of unified modulation and the implementation scheme of random modulation are analyzed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed random PWM is verified by simulation. © 2024 IEEE.

Distributed Nash equilibrium for pursuit-evasion game with one evader and multiple pursuers

This paper investigates the pursuit-evasion problem involving one evader and multiple pursuers with limited sensing capability, where the evader tries to maximize the distance with the pursuers, while the pursuers have different objectives based on whether they can receive the information of the evader. The subgroup of pursuers who can observe the evader(called leaders) tries to be close to the evader, and the other subgroup of pursuers(called followers) tries to synchronize with their neighbors. When the subgraph formed by all leaders is complete, sufficient conditions are given to guarantee that the pursuers capture the evader and the pursuit-evasion game composed of the evader and leaders reaches Nash equilibrium. Furthermore, for the incomplete subgraph case, the distributed observers are proposed to estimate the relative positions between the evader and all leaders. It is shown that the distributed control strategy based on the observers converges exponentially to the Nash equilibrium solution, and makes the pursuers capture the evader. Finally, simulation examples are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategies.

In recent years, wide bandgap semiconductor devices such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) have been increasingly applied in electric drive systems, effectively enhancing system power density. However, the high-frequency and high-speed characteristics of SiC devices exacerbate electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues within the system. Additionally, the cables in electric drive systems exhibit significant antenna effects, radiating conducted EMI into the surrounding space, thereby affecting the normal operation of other sensitive equipment. Therefore, it is essential to research motor drive system topologies that can actively suppress EMI and predict radiated interference in motor drive systems. The topology of a four-module motor paired with parallel inverters can achieve active suppression of EMI at the source. This paper conducts a simulation-based prediction of radiated interference for a parallel inverter-driven four-module motor system. It analyzes the coupling mechanisms of common mode and differential mode radiated interference and validates the radiated interference from both DC and AC cables through simulations, predicting the impact on surrounding sensitive equipment in practical systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Wind turbines are an important component of the global strategy for the transition to renewable energy sources and the fight against climate change. Their implementation contributes to sustainable development and to improving the ecological situation of the planet. Detecting and elimination of defects helps reduce the wear of the components and prevent premature failure. This can significantly extend the life of wind turbines, which is economically beneficial for owners and operators. The use of UAVs allows for minimizing the risks for personnel, as inspection and diagnosis of defects can be carried out without the need to lift people to great heights or stay in dangerous areas. This is especially important for turbines located in places of difficult access. The images taken by the UAV contain many extraneous objects and fuzzy data. Fuzzy logic allows you to create models for pattern recognition and object classification in images, taking into account uncertainty and variation in the data. This increases the accuracy and reliability of pattern recognition systems. This article proposes an image processing system to detect wind turbine defects, with a fuzzy system module that selects images from a video stream for further processing. © 2024 IEEE.

Power electronic switching devices and pulse width modulation (PWM) not only improves the performance of motor drive systems, but also brings about common-mode voltage (CMV) issues, that challenging the normal operation of the system. This article proposes a zero common-mode voltage modulation strategy based on unified voltage modulation for a 60° Y-connected six-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor system driven by a dual three-phase inverter. The theoretical basis and zero common-mode implementation scheme of unified modulation are analyzed, and the effectiveness of the proposed zero common-mode voltage modulation strategy is finally verified through simulation. © 2024 IEEE.

Nowadays, information and knowledge represent the fundamental wealth of an organisation. Enterprises try to utilise this wealth to gain advantage when making decisions such as a project’s acceptance. After a project finishes, a quality management plan defines its quality level. The business intelligence theories help the individual to evaluate the proposed plan in order to target the project’s results. But, do all the evaluation methods have the same reliability? We check the project’s quality by using paper and online questionnaire administration. Although the scope is the same, there are differences, giving different results. So, we intelligently investigated the quality of the university educational process. The results show that the administration method has a significant effect on overall results. Thus, the quality check of a project using questionnaires needs to have an attentive design, avoid points that introduce uncertainties and able to show the real opinion of the respondents. Evaluation is a process that compares the results with the target, an initial situation with the final one. ‘Evaluate’ means making an assessment based on some measure or information and referring to some criteria. The Formative evaluation is a process which is used by trainers and trainees and provides feedback on updating current teaching and learning methods in order to improve trainer’s achievement in relation of teaching goals. In this case study a research was carried out using the technique of formative evaluation in order to evaluate two thematic areas with the cooperation of the program’s leaders. The aim of the study was to extract conclusions and opinions about the program’s value, the achievement goals and the organisation implementation requirements and how all this results will been feed backed to program managers and policymakers with the appropriate information which are necessary to adopt appropriate corrective interventions for programs quality improvement.
