This article introduces a new medical internet of things(IoT)framework for intelligent fall detection system of senior people based on our proposed deep forest *** cascade multi-layer structure of deep forest classifier allows to generate new features at each level with minimal hyperparameters compared to deep neural ***,the optimal number of the deep forest layers is automatically estimated based on the early stopping criteria of validation accuracy value at each generated *** suggested forest classifier was successfully tested and evaluated using a public SmartFall dataset,which is acquired from three-axis accelerometer in a *** includes 92781 training samples and 91025 testing samples with two labeled classes,namely non-fall and *** results of our deep forest classifier demonstrated a superior performance with the best accuracy score of 98.0%compared to three machine learning models,i.e.,K-nearest neighbors,decision trees and traditional random forest,and two deep learning models,which are dense neural networks and convolutional neural *** considering security and privacy aspects in the future work,our proposed medical IoT framework for fall detection of old people is valid for real-time healthcare application deployment.

Car-following is the most common driving scenario where a following vehicle follows a lead vehicle in the same lane. One crucial factor of car-following behavior is driving style which affects speed and gap selection, acceleration pattern, and fuel consumption. However, existing car-following research used limited categories of driving style through pre-defined patterns and failed to encode driving style into data-driven car-following models. To address these limitations, we propose the Aggressiveness Informed Car-Following (AICF) modeling approach, which embeds driving style as a dynamic input feature in data-driven car-following models. In detail, We design driving aggressiveness tokens using four physical quantities (jerk, acceleration, relative speed, and relative spacing) to capture the heterogeneity of driving aggressiveness. These tokens were then embedded into a physics-informed Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) based car-following model for trajectory prediction. To evaluate the effectiveness of our approach, we conducted extensive experiments based on 12,540 car-following events extracted from the HighD dataset and 24,093 events from the Lyft dataset. Compared to models devoid of considerations for driving aggressiveness levels, AICF exhibits superior efficacy in mitigating the Mean Square Error (MSE) of spacing and collision rate. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to directly incorporate real-time driving aggressiveness tokens as input features into data-driven car-following models, enabling a more comprehensive understanding of aggressiveness in car-following behavior. Current trends of digitalization and automation in the automotive industry have increased the complexity of computer clusters in different domains of vehicular ecosystems, which are required to support new features. This has led to redundancy in resource usage in specific use cases, resulting in increased production costs and manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) markups for the finalized products. The average retail price of a new vehicle in the United States increased by 13.4% between 2015 and 2020. Considering the global chip shortage of 2020 and current global inflation, the average price of a new vehicle in the United States reached 49,500 in 2023 [1]. With the electrification of current automotive platforms underway, as well as the move to centralized system architectures, new approaches to inter-domain communication are expected. This paper proposes a solution of a distributed AUTOSAR Adaptive system that can establish communication with the In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) domain. The proof of concept implemented in a controlled environment proves viable for inter-domain communication, as it provides good scalability and adaptability to different scenarios. The use of a distributed approach facilitates the applicability of distributed system principles, allowing for the implementation of a stable system. © 2023 IEEE.

To minimize the disturbance of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) cutterhead on the surrounding rock during the coal mine roadway excavation process and ensure that the cutterhead rotation speed achieves fast tracking performance with minimal overshoot, we propose a direct adaptive robust control method for the cutterhead rotation speed hydraulic system based on inversion design. This method considers the strong disturbances such as loads and motion affecting the cutterhead hydraulic drive system, as well as the uncertainties in the cutterhead model. We establish the nonlinear model of the cutterhead hydraulic drive system and employ virtual control to reduce the model order. Using Lyapunov functions, we ensure the stability of the entire system and derive the control law for the cutterhead rotation speed controller, along with parameter-adaptive laws acting as parameter estimators. We validate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy through joint simulation using AMESim and Simulink. The results show that the designed cutterhead rotation speed controller achieves high tracking accuracy and good adaptability. © 2024 IEEE.

Finite-difference time-domain is a numerical method used for modelling of computational electrodynamics. The method is resource intensive, especially regarding memory usage since multiple memory accesses are required per single computation. In other words, memory, or more precisely its speed, is a limiting factor for the overall performance. Existing solutions focus either on structures with great parallelism such as graphical processing units or custom designs. The former have issues with underutilized resources, while the latter require significant time and effort to achieve similar or slightly better performances. The approach taken during this research was to target the memory itself and find a way to improve the efficiency of memory usage across multiple platforms. The main contribution of the paper is using block floating-point in a novel way regarding the finite-difference time-domain method. The presented solution is a verification of earlier research, proving that the performance of this algorithm can indeed be improved using the suggested methods. © 2023 IEEE.

As devices around us get more intelligent, new ways of interacting with them are sought to improve user convenience and comfort. While gesture-controlled systems have existed for some time, they either use additional specialized imaging equipment, require unreasonable computing resources, or are simply not accurate enough to be a viable alternative. In this work, a reliable method of recognizing gestures is proposed. The built model correctly classifies hand gestures for keyboard typing based on the activity captured by an ordinary camera. Two models are initially developed for classifying video data and classifying time-series sequences of the skeleton data extracted from a video. The models use different strategies of classification and are built using lightweight architectures. The two models are the baseline models which are integrated to form a single multi-modal model with multiple inputs, i.e., video and time-series inputs, to improve accuracy. The performances of the baseline models are then compared to the multimodal classifier. Since the multimodal classifier is based on the initial models, it naturally inherits the benefits of both baseline architectures and provides a higher testing accuracy of 100% compared to the accuracy of 85% and 75% for the baseline models respectively. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2024.

In the last three years, a new partner has emerged for teachers and educators in the field of education. The mushrooming of applications based on large language models has greatly shaped the educational development fields of the present era. The use of various AI applications has become commonplace among students and teachers alike. Many questions are being raised by researchers in this field. What does the rapid development of AI applications bring to the field of pedagogy? Should the products of such applications be compared with human performance? The form presented in this thesis seeks to answer similar questions. What is the impact of frequent use of these applications on the literacy level of individuals? In which areas do students tend to use these applications? The results indicate that half of the students believe their literacy levels will decrease with the mass emergence of AI applications, while 36% feel it will not change. However, 88 % of students have already dealt with AI-based applications, with 64 % using them several times or more, suggesting a high level of integration into their educational processes. © 2024 IEEE.

During the COVID19 epidemic, people of all ages from all walks of life around the world have become inevitably familiar with and almost dependent on the digital tools of the age and the opportunities they offer. A change had to take place very quickly that was unprecedented. This process has also affected education. During the time of the reading lock-in, there was a proliferation of digital curricular content. The second time around, online education came to the fore, thanks to less or well-functioning online platforms, and has since become part of everyday teaching. What is the effectiveness and usefulness of sharing knowledge in this way? Is literacy still needed at all? Can online and hybrid (a controlled mix of face-to-face and online) education replace the well-established contact and face-to-face education? The study show that the respondents believe that online education has had an impact on literacy and that it is perceived to have a positive impact. The results indicate that online education has a positive impact on the literacy levels of students, as it facilitates knowledge acquisition and enhances digital literacy skills. © 2024 IEEE.

the optimal control problem on a finite-time interval for a nonlinear system with state-dependent coefficients is considered in this paper. The most common method for such systems is the state-dependent Riccati equation (SDRE) method. Ehe implementation of SDRE in a finite-time interval requires the solution of the state-dependent Riccati differential equation (SDDRE). Since the initial conditions for the SDDRE are set at a final time moment, the numerical solution requires integration from right to left. The lack of information about the system state at future time points does not allow this integration to be performed. This complexity can be overcome through an approximate solution based on the state-dependent Lyapunov differential equation. However, this approximate solution may be less accurate, for example, compared to Riccati Sequence Approximate Method (ASRE). A modification of the SDRE method based on preliminary calculations of the system matrices by solving an auxiliary terminal control problem on the inverse time interval is presented. In such a situation, the backward integration of the auxiliary problem on the specified time interval will take place in direct time for the original problem. Two examples of the application of this method in nonlinear problems are shown. © 2022 IEEE.
