Sequential fusion estimation for multisensor systems with non-Gaussian noises

The sequential fusion estimation for multisensor systems disturbed by non-Gaussian but heavytailed noises is studied in this paper. Based on multivariate t-distribution and the approximate t-filter,the sequential fusion algorithm is presented. The performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed and compared with the t-filter-based centralized batch fusion and the Gaussian Kalman filter-based optimal centralized fusion. Theoretical analysis and exhaustive experimental analysis show that the proposed algorithm is effective. As the generalization of the classical Gaussian Kalman filter-based optimal sequential fusion algorithm, the presented algorithm is shown to be superior to the Gaussian Kalman filter-based optimal centralized batch fusion and the optimal sequential fusion in estimation of dynamic systems with non-Gaussian noises.

This paper presents an analysis of a data set to determine the factors influencing airline passenger satisfaction. The study examines various criteria such as gender, customer type, age, travel type, class, and range to assess their impact on passenger satisfaction. The dataset consists of 25 columns, including attributes like Wi-Fi availability, convenience of online booking, seat comfort, in-flight entertainment, baggage handling, and overall satisfaction. The sample is relatively balanced, with equal representation of men and women, predominantly repeat customers, and a majority flying for business purposes. Key findings include a strong correlation between departure and arrival delays, higher satisfaction among passengers in business class, and positive ratings for Wi-Fi service correlating with overall satisfaction. Correlation analysis reveals interdependencies between different attributes, such as the influence of cleanliness on seat comfort and food and beverage ratings. In addition, a neural network forecasting model is used to estimate the average ratings of passengers, although with low accuracy, which was later excluded. Finally, a decision tree algorithm is utilized to identify the most significant attributes affecting passenger satisfaction words. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The study, published in the journal Nature Medicine, looked at data on 1,000 people from China who were tracked over an average period of six years. The participants were divided into two groups: those who lived in areas with high levels of air pollution and those who lived in areas with low levels of air pollution. The study analyzed data on patients with lung cancer, including their age, gender, exposure to air pollution, alcohol consumption, dust allergy, occupational hazards, genetic risk, chronic lung disease, balanced diet, obesity, smoking, passive smoking, chest pain, cough, hemoptysis, fatigue, weight loss, shortness of breath, wheezing, difficulty swallowing, nail thickening and snoring. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Secure-by-Construction controller Synthesis via control Barrier Functions

In this paper, we propose a secure-by-construction scheme for synthesizing controllers to enforce safety and security properties simultaneously over control systems. As a key insight, we establish a bridge between the desired safety and security properties by leveraging notions of (augmented) control barrier functions. Based on these functions, we show that one can synthesize secure-by-construction controllers for control systems with continuous state and input sets. Additionally, we provide sum-of-square (SOS) conditions under which the desired (augmented) control barrier functions can be constructed. Finally, we demonstrate the applicability of our results on a case study.

In light of the inherently complex and dynamic nature of real-world environments, incorporating risk measures is crucial for the robustness evaluation of deep learning models. In this work, we propose a Risk-Averse Certification framework for Bayesian neural networks called RAC-BNN. Our method leverages sampling and optimisation to compute a sound approximation of the output set of a BNN, represented using a set of template polytopes. To enhance robustness evaluation, we integrate a coherent distortion risk measure—Conditional Value at Risk (CVaR)—into the certification framework, providing probabilistic guarantees based on empirical distributions obtained through sampling. We validate RAC-BNN on a range of regression and classification benchmarks and compare its performance with a state-of-the-art method. The results show that RAC-BNN effectively quantifies robustness under worst-performing risky scenarios, and achieves tighter certified bounds and higher efficiency in complex tasks. The functional structure of the problem-oriented software complex for solving the problem of designing a technological scheme for the multi-product processes for the synthesis of ozone-safe chladones is presented in the article. The inclusion of a customizable relational database of chladone characteristics in the software complex allows selecting equipment (working volumes of reactors) to form a production flow chart based on specified criteria (productivity, energy consumption, output concentrations of the target and by-products, etc.). The mathematical models library is the basis of the software complex. Mathematical models allow performing verification calculations of various reactors for the synthesis of a wide range of chladones in accordance with the technical specification. The advantage of the software complex is the ability to analyze the effect of contact time and process temperature on the output concentrations of by-products and target products with different compositions of the initial reaction mixture. The use of the software complex allows increasing the efficiency of designing chladones synthesis processes by reducing the time spent on selecting the hardware design of processes that ensure high conversion of raw materials and the required selectivity of processes for the target component.

MaxCUCL: Max−Consensus with Deterministic Convergence in Networks with Unreliable Communication Links

In this paper, we present a novel distributed algorithm (herein called MaxCUCL) designed to guarantee that max−consensus is reached in networks characterized by unreliable communication links (i.e., links suffering from packet drops). Our proposed algorithm is the first algorithm that achieves max−consensus in a deterministic manner (i.e., nodes always calculate the maximum of their states regardless of the nature of the probability distribution of the packet drops). Furthermore, it allows nodes to determine whether convergence has been achieved (enabling them to transition to subsequent tasks). The operation of MaxCUCL relies on the deployment of narrowband error-free feedback channels used for acknowledging whether a packet transmission between nodes was successful. We analyze the operation of our algorithm and show that it converges after a finite number of time steps. Finally, we demonstrate our algorithm’s effectiveness and practical applicability by applying it to a sensor network deployed for environmental monitoring. © 2024, CC BY.

Automatic program repair plays a crucial role in the software development and implementation. While deep learning-based approaches have made significant progress, one inherent challenge is the inefficiency in code representation, which hampers accurate patch generation. Furthermore, the training data used by these data-driven approaches may be limited, and they may not be able to capture the subtle differences between vulnerabilities and patches. To address these issues, FixGPT, we propose a three-tier deep learning model in the study. Specifically, a generative pre-trained transformer model is designed in the first tier to capture code characteristics and programming patterns. The second tier integrates a generation model based on the structure of neural machine translation, for the purpose of generating potential patches. Finally, a contrast model is introduced in the last tier to differentiate between the vulnerability and the patch. We also incorporate the Byte Pair Encoding approach to reduce the search space by converting identifiers into subwords. Detailed experimental studies have been carried out to evaluate the performance of FixGPT on two well-known benchmarking datasets: QuixBugs and Defects4J. The results demonstrated significant improvements in the effectiveness and accuracy in comparison with existing solutions. We complement these findings through the analysis of two case studies. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper constructs a non-cooperative/cooperative stochasticdifferential game model to prove that the optimal strategies trajectory ofagents in a system with a topological configuration of a Multi-Local-Worldgraph would converge into a certain attractor if the system’s configuration isfixed. Due to the economics and management property, almost all systems aredivided into several independent Local-Worlds, and the interaction betweenagents in the system is more complex. The interaction between agents inthe same Local-World is defined as a stochastic differential cooperativegame;conversely, the interaction between agents in different Local-Worldsis defined as a stochastic differential non-cooperative game. We construct anon-cooperative/cooperative stochastic differential game model to describethe interaction between agents. The solutions of the cooperative and noncooperativegames are obtained by invoking corresponding theories, and thena nonlinear operator is constructed to couple these two solutions *** last, the optimal strategies trajectory of agents in the system is proven toconverge into a certain attractor, which means that strategies trajectory arecertainty as time tends to infinity or a large positive integer. It is concluded thatthe optimal strategy trajectory with a nonlinear operator of cooperative/noncooperativestochastic differential game between agents can make agentsin a certain Local-World coordinate and make the Local-World paymentmaximize, and can make the all Local-Worlds equilibrated;furthermore, theoptimal strategy of the coupled game can converge into a particular attractorthat decides the optimal property.

In order to improve the security and efficiency of image encryption systems comprehensively an image encryption based on enhanced design of Blowfish scheme is proposed. The proposed system is employed block based image encryption technique combined with chaotic map properties. Firstly the digital image is scrambled and decomposed into several key based blocks randomly to decorrelated the relationship between original and processed image then each block is passed through an enhanced blowfish algorithm. The enhancement in design is to gain advantage of the strong facility, which is maintained by blowfish algorithm by overcoming its flaws, which leads to a significant improvement in security/performance. As a result the proposed system offers good performance for image encryption. The proposed algorithm is 320-bit Blowfish-like block cipher, where cascaded looking composition of F-functions is used instead of rounds. The key is accepted a variable length up to 400 bytes. The pragmatic aim of the proposed system is to decrease memory requirements and execution time while keeping the cipher simple and highly adaptable to future demands. To ensure improved encryption algorithm, the implementation of both techniques has been carried out for experimental purposes which is showed that the original image has a flat histogram after encrypted, a decreasing correlation between adjacent pixels in all color components and increasing entropy for the cases studied. The proposed algorithm has a sufficiently large key space and a very high sensitivity to the key. A comparative study with previous Blowfish algorithm shows the superiority of the modified algorithm. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
