We present a O(n3) algorithm for solving the Distance Geometry Problem for a complete graph (a simple undirected graph in which every pair of distinct vertices is connected by a unique edge) consisting of n+ 1 vertices and non-negatively weighted edges. It is known that when the solution of the problem exists, the dimension of the Euclidean embedding is at most n. The algorithm provides the smallest possible dimension of the Euclidean space for which the exact embedding of the graph exists. Alternatively, when the distance matrix under consideration is non-Euclidean, the algorithm determines a subset of graph vertices whose mutual distances form the Euclidean matrix. The proposed algorithm is an exact algorithm. If the distance matrix is a Euclidean matrix, the algorithm provides a geometrically unambiguous solution for the location of the graph vertices. The presented embedding method was illustrated using examples of the metric traveling salesman problem that allowed us in some cases to obtain high dimensional partial immersions. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In this study, a computational fluid-structure interaction (FSI) framework for characteristic deformations in insect's wings is proposed. The proposed framework consists of a pixel wing model using a structured shell finite element mesh, a projection method for the monolithic FSI monolithic equations using an algebraic splitting, and the FSI dynamic similarity law to measure dynamic similarity between model's and actual insect's flights. It is shown that the proposed framework can directly simulate passive feathering and cambering in insect's wings caused by the FSI, whose magnitudes are very close to those of actual insects. © 2021 9th International Conference on Computational Methods for Coupled Problems in Science and Engineering, COUPLED PROBLEMS 2021. Various algorithms are used to reconstruct the 3D shape of object surfaces using visible light cameras: stereo reconstruction, shape from motion, shape from shadow, and others. Special attention is paid to the shape from polarization algorithm, which is based on the physics of light reflection and changes in the degree of polarization. However, all of these methods are based on light reflection, not radiation. The paper presents a method for reconstructing the 3D shape of hot metal surfaces using a modification of the shape from the polarization algorithm.

Changes in coal seam hardness cause fluctuations in the feed resistance at the drill bit during the drilling process, leading to unstable feeding speed. This paper proposes a robust dynamic output feedback controller to suppress disturbances caused by the variations in coal seam hardness in the feed system. Firstly, an unknown parameter measuring coal seam hardness is introduced, and an uncertain model of the feeding system is established based on the finite element model of the drill string. By designing weighted functions based on industrial field requirements and constructing a generalized plant, the controller achieves loop shaping, reducing the low-frequency impact of coal seam hardness variations on the feed system and suppressing the systems resonance peak. Simulation results demonstrate that the controller effectively suppresses parameter variations and external disturbances caused by changes in coal seam hardness, achieving stable control of the drilling speed.

Existing asynchronous distributed optimization algorithms often use diminishing step-sizes that cause slow practical convergence, or use fixed step-sizes that depend on and decrease with an upper bound of the delays. Not only are such delay bounds hard to obtain in advance, but they also tend to be large and rarely attained, resulting in unnecessarily slow convergence. This paper develops asynchronous versions of two distributed algorithms, Prox-DGD and DGD-ATC, for solving consensus optimization problems over undirected networks. In contrast to alternatives, our algorithms can converge to the fixed point set of their synchronous counterparts using step-sizes that are independent of the delays. We establish convergence guarantees for convex and strongly convex problems under both partial and total asynchrony. We also show that the convergence speed of the two asynchronous methods adjusts to the actual level of asynchrony rather than being constrained by the worst-case. In this paper, we solve the inter-agent collision avoidance problem in an arbitrary n-dimensional Euclidean space using reciprocal safety velocity cones (RSVCs). We propose a decentralized feedback control strategy that guarantees simultaneously asymptotic stabilization to a reference and collision avoidance. Our algorithm is purely decentralized in the sense that each agent uses only local information about its neighbouring agents. Moreover, the proposed solution can be implemented using only inter-agent bearing measurements. Therefore, the algorithm is a sensor-based control strategy which is practically implementable using a wide range of sensors such as vision systems and range scanners. Simulation results in a two dimensional environment cluttered with agents shows that the number of possible deadlocks is marginal and decrease with the decrease in the clutteredness of the workspace.

Intelligent automation is a term that can be applied to the more complex field of workflow automation, consisting of robotic workplace automation, robotic process automation, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Depending on the type of business, companies often use one or more types of automation to improve efficiency or effectiveness. As you move from process-driven automation to more flexible data-driven automation, additional costs arise in the form of training datasets, technical development, infrastructure, and expertise. But the potential benefits in terms of new ideas and financial development can increase significantly. The development of mechanized oil production in recent years has been accompanied by significant achievements in the field of digitalization. Machine learning, as an important element of digitalization, can successfully solve many production problems. The paper describes the application of some machine learning algorithms for solving the problem of classifying and predicting failures of hydrocracking process equipment that occur during oil refining and diesel fuel production. The application of random forest, principal component analysis and hyperparameter tuning methods is considered. The effectiveness of their application is compared. © 2022 IEEE.

Reputation-based consensus methods have gained significant attention in distributed systems to mitigate the impact of malicious agents and ensure reliable decision-making. However, privacy concerns arise when sensitive information is shared among participants. In this paper, we propose a reputation-based consensus method that incorporates resilience and differential privacy guarantees, providing a balance between preserving participants' privacy and maintaining the accuracy of the resilient consensus process. Our approach leverages the notion of differential privacy to add noise to the agents' states, ensuring that individual contributions are masked while still enabling the detection of malicious behavior. We present a detailed analysis of the privacy-accuracy trade-off and demonstrate the effectiveness of our method through simulations. The results show that our reputation-based consensus method with differential privacy guarantees offers robustness against attacks while preserving the privacy of participants, making it a promising solution for privacy-conscious resilient distributed systems. © 2024, The Authors. In this paper, we present the synthesis of secure-by-construction controllers that address safety and security properties simultaneously in cyber-physical systems. Our focus is on studying a specific security property called opacity, which characterizes the system’s ability to maintain plausible deniability of its secret behavior in the presence of an intruder. These controllers are synthesized based on a concept of so-called (augmented) control barrier functions, which we introduce and discuss in detail. We propose conditions that facilitate the construction of the desired (augmented) control barrier functions and their corresponding secure-by-construction controllers. To compute these functions, we propose an iterative scheme that leverages iterative sum-of-square programming techniques. This approach enables efficient computation of these functions, particularly for polynomial systems. Moreover, we demonstrate the flexibility of our approach by incorporating user-defined cost functions into the construction of secure-by-construction controllers. Finally, we validate the effectiveness of our results through two case studies, illustrating the practical applicability and benefits of our proposed approach. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. This paper introduces a new variational Gaussian filtering approach for estimating the state of a nonlinear dynamic system. We first assume that the predictive distribution of the state is Gaussian and derive an iterative method for updating the state posterior in the natural parameter space through KullbackLeibler divergence minimization. The obtained update rule is the same as that of the conjugate-computation variational inference technique in Bayesian learning. The derivation here is simpler and more insightful. We then impose a Wishart prior on the inverse of the state prediction covariance to take into account the impact of approximating the state predictive distribution using a Gaussian density on the state posterior estimation. The prediction covariance is identified jointly with the state using variational inference and the established state posterior update rule to achieve the desired Gaussian filtering. Simulation study examines the performance of the proposed filtering framework in target tracking based on bearing and range measurements.
