In pursuit of new revenue opportunities and improving market competitiveness, network service providers are offering new value-added services, such as voice over IP (VoIP), video on demand (VoD), IPTV, and so on. Nonlinear effects in actively mode-locked fiber lasers are presented. A laser model including a gain media, a band pass filter, optical fiber and an intensity modulator is introduced to investigate the performance of the laser under nonlinear effects. Lasers in both working conditions, non-detuning and detuning, are studied. We find that the nonlinear effects compress the pulse through the self phase modulation (SPM) effect. However, there is a trade of between pulse shortening and large detuning range. Laser with shorter pulse has narrower detuning range and vise versa.

An operon is a fundamental unit of transcription and contains specific functional genes for the construction and regulation of networks at the whole genome level. The prediction of operons is critical for understanding gene regulation and functions in newly sequenced genomes. As experimental methods for operon detection tend to be non-trivial and time-consuming, various methods for operon prediction have been proposed in the literature. In this study, a complementary binary particle swarm optimization (CBPSO) is used for operon prediction in bacterial genomes. We used complementary operation to improve the initialization procedure, and then used the intergenic distance, the metabolic pathway and the cluster of orthologous groups (COG) to design a fitness function. The proper values were trained on the Escherichia coli genome. Experimental results show that the prediction accuracy of this method reached 92.6%, 93.6%, 95.8% and 96.3% on Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa PA01, Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis genomes, respectively. The proposed method predicted operons with high accuracy for the four test genomes.

Compact and simple bandpass filter (BPF) structure using microstrip isosceles triangular patch resonator (ITPR) is proposed. The new filter design technique is based on two main ideas: Firstly, cutting the corners of the triangular structure, to make the filter size more compact. Secondly, etching slit in staircase form near the base of the triangle, in order to improve the filter performances. The proposed filter was designed and fabricated on Taconic CER-10 substrate with a relative dielectric constant of 10 and a thickness of 0.64mm using standard photolithography process. The final dimension of the proposed filter is measured at 5.7mm × 7.6 mm. Measured S-parameters showed that the filter achieves a 3-dB fractional bandwidth of 55% at center frequency of 10.36 GHz, with measured insertion loss of 2.08 dB and measured return loss better than 10 dB. The measured results are in good agreement with the simulated results.

It is getting important that applies social network of collaborative learning to intelligent distance learning system. In this paper, we used the Rule-Space Model to infer reasonable Blue-Red trees of learning performance and their definitions. We can derive nine learning groups of social network grouping algorithms and classify particular Blue-Red Trees that belong to specific learning group from previous definitions. They include the general formula for one-to-one complementary collaborative learning group algorithms of strong learning and illustration distribution. Therefore, we use these algorithms to build a social network learning system and social network learning methods with learning performance of Blue-Red trees. Finally, an example for a course with the Rule-Space Model analysis of learning objects is illustrated and proved. From this example, they can be created thirty-six learning performances of Blue-Red trees that are grouped under nine learning groups of social network and inferred one-to-one complementary collaborative learning group algorithms of strong learning. So, the algorithms within the system will recommend those specific Blue-Red trees that satisfy one-to-one complementary collaborative learning group of strong learning.

In this paper, a novel design method for two band antenna using monopole antenna with Sperrtopf for mobile communication and Digital communications System is presented. We made a trial two-band antenna, with operating frequencies of 800MHz and 2.04 GHz, and examined the design method by the comparing measured VSWR of the antenna with the simulation results using simulation soft WIPL-D Microwave and Nec-2. This paper calculates the optical power budget and power margin for designing a conventional passive optical network (PON)-based Fiber-To-the-Home (FTTH) and Intelligent Fiber-To-the-Home (i-FTTH) with different link length of drop fiber and optical power splitting ratio of 1×N passive optical splitter. A simple calculation is used to determine how much loss and power are available for each individual fiber link in both networks with different type of signals. The cost estimation for both networks including the additional optical monitoring, switching, and protection systems are calculated and compared.
