Loss of key personnel has always been a risk for research software projects. Key members of the team may have to step away due to illness or burnout, to care for a family member, from a loss of financial support, or because their career is going in a new direction. Today, though, political and financial changes are putting large numbers of researchers out of work simultaneously, potentially leaving large amounts of research software abandoned. This article presents ten tips to help researchers ensure that the software they have built will continue to be usable after they have left their present job—whether in the course of voluntary career moves or researcher mobility, but particularly in cases of involuntary departure due to political or institutional changes. © 2025, CC BY-SA.

software module clustering is an unsupervised learning method used to cluster software entities (e.g., classes, modules, or files) with similar features. The obtained clusters may be used to study, analyze, and understand the software entities’ structure and behavior. Implementing software module clustering with optimal results is challenging. Accordingly, researchers have addressed many aspects of software module clustering in the past decade. Thus, it is essential to present the research evidence that has been published in this area. In this study, 143 research papers from well-known literature databases that examined software module clustering were reviewed to extract useful data. The obtained data were then used to answer several research questions regarding state-of-the-art clustering approaches, applications of clustering in software engineering, clustering processes, clustering algorithms, and evaluation methods. Several research gaps and challenges in software module clustering are discussed in this paper to provide a useful reference for researchers in this field. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. This work investigates fault-resilient federated learning when the data samples are non-uniformly distributed across workers, and the number of faulty workers is unknown to the central server. In the presence of adversarially faulty workers who may strategically corrupt datasets, the local messages exchanged (e.g., local gradients and/or local model parameters) can be unreliable, and thus the vanilla stochastic gradient descent (SGD) algorithm is not guaranteed to converge. Recently developed algorithms improve upon vanilla SGD by providing robustness to faulty workers at the price of slowing down convergence. To remedy this limitation, the present work introduces a fault-resilient proximal gradient (FRPG) algorithm that relies on Nesterov’s acceleration technique. To reduce the communication overhead of FRPG, a local (L) FRPG algorithm is also developed to allow for intermittent server-workers parameter exchanges. For strongly convex loss functions, FRPG and LFRPG have provably faster convergence rates than a benchmark robust stochastic aggregation algorithm. Moreover, LFRPG converges faster than FRPG while using the same communication rounds. Numerical tests performed on various real datasets confirm the accelerated convergence of FRPG and LFRPG over the robust stochastic aggregation benchmark and competing alternatives. Cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) has become a major experimental technique to determine the structures of large protein complexes and molecular assemblies, as evidenced by the 2017 Nobel Prize. Although cryo-EM has been drastically improved to generate high-resolution three-dimensional (3D) maps that contain detailed structural information about macromolecules, the computational methods for using the data to automatically build structure models are lagging far behind. The traditional cryo-EM model building approach is template-based homology modeling. Manual de novo modeling is very time-consuming when no template model is found in the database. In recent years, de novo cryo-EM modeling using machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) has ranked among the top-performing methods in macromolecular structure modeling. Deep-learning-based de novo cryo-EM modeling is an important application of artificial intelligence, with impressive results and great potential for the next generation of molecular biomedicine. Accordingly, we systematically review the representative ML/DL-based de novo cryo-EM modeling methods. And their significances are discussed from both practical and methodological viewpoints. We also briefly describe the background of cryo-EM data processing workflow. Overall, this review provides an introductory guide to modern research on artificial intelligence (AI) for de novo molecular structure modeling and future directions in this emerging field. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.

Dynamic residential load scheduling based on an adaptive consumption level pricing scheme

Demand response (DR) for smart grids, which intends to balance the required power demand with the available supply resources, has been gaining widespread attention. The growing demand for electricity has presented new opportunities for residential load scheduling systems to improve energy consumption by shifting or curtailing the demand required with respect to price change or emergency cases. In this paper, a dynamic residential load scheduling system (DRLS) is proposed for optimal scheduling of household appliances on the basis of an adaptive consumption level (CL) pricing scheme (ACLPS). The proposed load scheduling system encourages customers to manage their energy consumption within the allowable consumption allowance (CA) of the proposed DR pricing scheme to achieve lower energy bills. Simulation results show that employing the proposed DRLS system benefits the customers by reducing their energy bill and the utility companies by decreasing the peak load of the aggregated load demand. For a given case study, the proposed residential load scheduling system based on ACLPS allows customers to reduce their energy bills by up to 53% and to decrease the peak load by up to 35%. Automatic analysis of colonoscopy images has been an active field of research motivated by the importance of early detection of precancerous polyps. However, detecting polyps during the live examination can be challenging due to various factors such as variation of skills and experience among the endoscopists, lack of attentiveness, and fatigue leading to a high polyp miss-rate. Therefore, there is a need for an automated system that can flag missed polyps during the examination and improve patient care. Deep learning has emerged as a promising solution to this challenge as it can assist endoscopists in detecting and classifying overlooked polyps and abnormalities in real time, improving the accuracy of diagnosis and enhancing treatment. In addition to the algorithm's accuracy, transparency and interpretability are crucial to explaining the whys and hows of the algorithm's prediction. Further, conclusions based on incorrect decisions may be fatal, especially in medicine. Despite these pitfalls, most algorithms are developed in private data, closed source, or proprietary software, and methods lack reproducibility. Therefore, to promote the development of efficient and transparent methods, we have organized the "Medico automatic polyp segmentation (Medico 2020)" and "MedAI: Transparency in Medical Image Segmentation (MedAI 2021)" competitions. The Medico 2020 challenge received submissions from 17 teams, while the MedAI 2021 challenge also gathered submissions from another 17 distinct teams in the following year. We present a comprehensive summary and analyze each contribution, highlight the strength of the best-performing methods, and discuss the possibility of clinical translations of such methods into the clinic. Our analysis revealed that the participants improved dice coefficient metrics from 0.8607 in 2020 to 0.8993 in 2021 despite adding diverse and challenging frames (containing irregular, smaller, sessile, or flat polyps), which are frequently missed during a

The materials of this research are devoted to implementation of the main aspects of the problem, in particular, the analysis of the perception by visitors group of abstract visual objects of modern art with elements of augmented reality. This aspect is associated with the need to take into account the perception of the artefact by a group of visitors with a view to its subsequent transformation in new paintings or understanding of visitors. The approach to assessing the perception of abstract paintings with elements of augmented reality is described. The application of a special clustering method within the framework of the approach is substantiated, which allows reducing the variety of estimates in the formation of the initial data for the verbal semantic differential method (MSD). Application of the approach will make it possible to implement the triad "MSD - technology of collective expert assessment - ontological engineering" will serve as a methodological basis for developing an IoT-system in the form of an intellectual agency, for automatically changing the digital visual object of modern art with augmented reality, in accordance with its reflection in the mass consciousness of the visitors.

The attacks of cyber are rapidly increasing due to advanced techniques applied by hackers. Furthermore, cyber security is demanding day by day, as cybercriminals are performing cyberattacks in this digital world. So, designing privacy and security measurements for IoT-based systems is necessary for secure network. Although various techniques of machine learning are applied to achieve the goal of cyber security, but still a lot of work is needed against intrusion detection. Recently, the concept of hybrid learning gives more attention to information security specialists for further improvement against cyber threats. In the proposed framework, a hybrid method of swarm intelligence and evolutionary for feature selection, namely, PSO-GA (PSO-based GA) is applied on dataset named CICIDS-2017 before training the model. The model is evaluated using ELM-BA based on bootstrap resampling to increase the reliability of ELM. This work achieved highest accuracy of 100% on PortScan, Sql injection, and brute force attack, which shows that the proposed model can be employed effectively in cybersecurity applications.
