Rock tunnel engineering (RTE) plays a crucial role in modern infrastructure development. The development of artificial intelligence (AI) is able to drive transformative advances in RTE. This review provides an in-depth analysis of the AI application in RTE. Through a comprehensive examination of existing literature, we explore how AI technologies have revolutionised various aspects of RTE, including construction methodology, rock parameter estimation, hazard disaster management during construction, and tunnel operation. In addition, we provide an in-depth study of the synergies between various AI algorithms and related open datasets. This work also outlines promising future research directions for the AI application in RTE, aiming to inspire further advancements in this emerging field. In conclusion, this review underscores the positive influence of AI on RTE, emphasising its capacity to elevate efficiency, accuracy, and safety standards throughout various phases of tunnel projects. The convergence of AI with RTE holds immense promise for advancing the field and ensuring the success and sustainability of future tunnel infrastructure endeavours.

A Generalized Binary Tree Mechanism for Differentially Private Approximation of All-Pair Distances

We study the problem of approximating all-pair distances in a weighted undirected graph with differential privacy, introduced by Sealfon [Sea16]. Given a publicly known undirected graph, we treat the weights of edges as sensitive information, and two graphs are neighbors if their edge weights differ in one edge by at most one. We obtain efficient algorithms with significantly improved bounds on a broad class of graphs which we refer to as recursively separable. In particular, for any n-vertex Kh-minor-free graph, our algorithm achieve an additive error of Õ(h(nW)1/3), where W represents the maximum edge weight;For grid graphs, the same algorithmic scheme achieve additive error of Õ(n1/4√W). Our approach can be seen as a generalization of the celebrated binary tree mechanism for range queries, as releasing range queries is equivalent to computing all-pair distances on a path graph. In essence, our approach is based on generalizing the binary tree mechanism to graphs that are recursively separable. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The methodologies based on neural networks are substantial to accomplish sentiment analysis in the Social Internet of Things (SIoT). With social media sentiment analysis, significant insights can produce efficient and intelligent applications. Neural networks such as recurrent neural networks (RNNs) and convolution neural networks (CNNs) have been considered widely in many text classification tasks. However, RNNs are computationally expensive and require complex training to capture contextual information and long-term dependencies. Similarly, traditional CNNs must stack multiple convolutional layers, requiring massive computations and additional parameters. To address these problems, this work initialized the novel architecture, in which contextual representations (CRs) based on the textual framework are proposed at the initial step. In CRs, state-of-the-art word representation models, such as GloVe (global vectors) and FastText (subword information), collectively produce word representations upon the input sequence using a weight mechanism. Secondly, a unique way is introduced: a three-parallel layered dilated convolutional network with global mean pooling. The experimental results show that the proposed methods when compared with baseline methods, the dilation in CNNs following CRs significantly increases the accuracy from 72.45 to 98.98% and reduces computational resources. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Ethical decision-making is a unique aspect of human behavior. When confronted with situations that require careful deliberation over multitude of options that have ethical implications, human behavior tends to resolve dilemmas by resorting to a range of heuristics and principles that view the situation from different perspectives. While constraint and utility-driven decision-making strategies are relevant, the incompatibility among these perspectives can invalidate the underlying premises of models of probabilistic utility-based decisions that rely on classic Kolmogorov axioms. In this paper, it is posited that quantum cognition models can provide an alternative and credible representation of human behavior modeling in simulations that involve ethical decision-making.

In a green environment, air quality is among the prominent aspects to be considered to prevent pollution and in turn maintain safe air. Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) and Building Related Illness (BRI) are the problems that must be encountered by building occupants. Existing devices are quite expensive, and more attention is needed on monitoring air quality. Therefore, this paper discusses a software-hardware architecture proposal to overcome the existing IAQ data retrieval performance problem. The objective of this work is to analyse the most recent IAQ sensing device developed by the researcher, to evaluate the performance attribute, and to implement the software-hardware architecture based on the Performance-Driven software Architecture Refactoring (PDSAR) method. In order to assess the overall performance of the architecture proposed, the prototype of the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) sensing device was developed. The testing was performed during a period of six months. The results demonstrate that the average performance for 540 readings is 76.67%. This shows that the architecture can be accepted as a generic IAQ sensing device development structure. The device act as an alternative, cheaper and safer device which can be employed by all building owners in the future. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The healthcare sector in Ukraine has long been in need of change, and many opportunities of blockchain technology can help it lead the transformation of this sector and ensure compliance with the requirements of the efficiency, safety, novelty, and economic benefits. State-of-the-art on known decisions on the use of blockchain technologies in the information technology for medical data management showed that, despite a large number of different solutions, effective methods and solutions for medical data management based on blockchain technologies are currently lacking. Therefore, improving the efficiency of medical data management by developing methods of medical data management based on blockchain technologies is currently an urgent problem. The paper developed a method for assessing the sufficiency of medical data, which provides: the ability to analyze a variety of medical data for their sufficiency;the ability to quantify the sufficiency of medical data;in case of insufficiency of the medical data, formation of recommendations on supplementing the medical data to be able to upload them to the "Block Data" section of the blockchain block. The paper developed a method of performing transactions on medical data, which consists of the stages of entering information into the blockchain and obtaining information from the blockchain. The developed method of performing transactions on medical data provides the ability to decide on the addition of transactions and medical data from the patient to the blockchain;the ability to decide on the issuance of data from the blockchain on request from a doctor. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

A decentralized computational infrastructure for grid-based parallel asynchronous iterative applications

Parallel asynchronous iterative algorithms relax synchronization and communication requirements, and can potentially extend Desktop Grids beyond embarrassingly parallel applications to support a broader class of parallel iterative applications. This paper presents the design and implementation of CometG, a decentralized (peer-to-peer) computational infrastructure that extends Desktop Grid environments to support these applications. CometG provides a decentralized and scalable tuple space, efficient communication and coordination support, and application-level abstractions that can be used to implement Desktop Grid applications based on parallel asynchronous iterative algorithms using the master-worker/BOT paradigm. The deployment and evaluations of CometG and a CometG-based application in a wide-area environment using the PlanetLab [7] test bed, as well as a campus network are presented. © Springer Science + Business Media, Inc. 2006.

Beside commercial games there are so-called educational games. When the main purpose of the game is to educate - then it is called educational game. In that kind of games the main focus of modelling is on design of learning elements around given educational course or around existing real-world educational curriculum. Educational games employed large variety of genres and it is difficult to be classified purely in one style, and often game is combination of different styles. For successful adaptive learning with game elements is necessary to research and specify different gaming styles, mapped to learning styles. This paper proposes a model of so called learmer (learner mapped with gamer style) and model of the educational game structures using and identifying the objects which are relevant for the domain of study and describing connecting relationships among these objects. © 2011 ACM.
