Majority voting is a simple mathematical function that returns the value that appears most often in a set. As a popular decision fusion technique, the majority voting function (MVF) finds applications in resolving conflicts, where a number of independent voters report their opinions on a classification problem. Despite its importance and its various applications in ensemble learning, data crowd-sourcing, remote sensing, and data oracles for blockchains, the accuracy of the MVF for the general multi-class classification problem has remained unknown. In this paper, we derive a new upper bound on the accuracy of the MVF for the multi-class classification problem. More specifically, we show that under certain conditions, the error rate of the MVF exponentially decays toward zero as the number of independent voters increases. Conversely, the error rate of the MVF exponentially grows with the number of independent voters if these conditions are not met. We first explore the problem for independent and identically distributed voters where we assume that every voter follows the same conditional probability distribution of voting for different classes, given the true classification of the data point. Next, we extend our results for the case where the voters are independent but non-identically distributed. Using the derived results, we then provide a discussion on the accuracy of the truth discovery algorithms. We show that in the best-case scenarios, truth discovery algorithms operate as an amplified MVF and thereby achieve a small error rate only when the MVF achieves a small error rate, and vice versa, achieve a large error rate when the MVF also achieves a large error rate. In the worst-case scenario, the truth discovery algorithms may achieve a higher error rate than the MVF. Finally, we confirm our theoretical results using numerical simulations. With the use of composite materials rising steadily in major industries such as the automotive and aerospace, a strong effort is put into structural health monitoring (SHM) and damage detection methods for these components. Nondestructive testing (NDT) techniques such as laser Doppler vibrometry (LDV) provide a valuable experimental setting for making measurements with dense grids of points without mass loading the structure. The use of machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques for the subsequent classification of defects has the potential of creating a reliable and automated framework for damage detection. In this work, different ML and DL approaches were assessed for the task of detecting defects on a carbon fiber plate by using frequency response data. The approaches were enriched by considering simulated datasets (created with Finite Element Analysis) in a transfer learning framework. Simulation data is easier to generate than experimental, meaning any added value provided with simulation data is advantageous. A description of the obtained results of damage detection is presented, along with a comparative overview of the different techniques. © 2022, The Society for Experimental Mechanics, Inc.

Phase Re-service in Reinforcement Learning Traffic Signal Control

This article proposes a novel approach to traffic signal control that combines phase re-service with reinforcement learning (RL). The RL agent directly determines the duration of the next phase in a pre-defined sequence. Before the RL agent’s decision is executed, we use the shock wave theory to estimate queue expansion at the designated movement allowed for re-service and decide if phase re-service is necessary. If necessary, a temporary phase re-service is inserted before the next regular phase. We formulate the RL problem as a semi-Markov decision process (SMDP) and solve it with proximal policy optimization (PPO). We conducted a series of experiments that showed significant improvements thanks to the introduction of phase re-service. Vehicle delays are reduced by up to 29.95% of the average and up to 59.21% of the standard deviation. Markov models of reliability of fault-tolerant computer systems are proposed, taking into account two stages of recovery of redundant memory devices. At the first stage, the physical recovery of memory devices is implemented, and at the second, the informational one consists in entering the data necessary to perform the required functions. Memory redundancy is carried out to increase the stability of the system to the loss of unique data generated during the operation of the system. Data replication is implemented in all functional memory devices. Information recovery is carried out using replicas of data stored in working memory devices. The model takes into account the criticality of the system to the timeliness of calculations in real time and to the impossibility of restoring information after multiple memory failures, leading to the loss of all stored replicas of unique data. The system readiness coefficient and the probability of its transition to a non-recoverable state are determined. The readiness of the system for the timely execution of requests is evaluated, taking into account the influence of the shares of the distribution of the performance of the computer allocated for the maintenance of requests and for the entry of information into memory after its physical recovery. © 2022 IEEE.

Nowadays, road accidents occur owing to the distractions of people who drives the vehicles by Internal or External factors. Using of Mobile phones and driving continuously for several hours are some of the reasons of driver distraction. Among these, the main distractions faced by drivers are drowsiness. Specifically, a driver turns to sleep while driving causes an accident. Latest studies reveal that approximately 20% of vehicle hits have caused by drowsy drivers. And now, these types of accidents can be detected by using modern software technologies. In that, Deep learning is a category of Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts, which imitate the way humans, gain certain types of knowledge. Deep Learning plays a vital role in health care industry also. The main characteristic of deep learning is, it can built a model automatically by self-learning. In deep learning, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is a type of deep neural networks, which is applied to investigate visual imagery. In this research work, a CNN model will be built to identify the drowsiness of the driver by observing the driver's face reactions. The driver drowsiness dataset is downloaded from data-flair website and trained with CNN architecture. In this work, an image of driver's face will be captured through web camera and compared with trained images .If matches occur, an alarm will be given to make awareness to the driver and to avoid accidents.

Recent trends in Network Function Virtualization (NFV) combined with Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G applications have reshaped the network service offering. In particular, Service Function Chains (SFCs) can associate network functions with physical and virtual resources towards providing a complete network service. Concurrently, the management of a continuously expanding network and the fulfillment of the applications’ requirements pave the way for autonomic network solutions. Intent Based Networking (IBN) is a novel paradigm that aims to achieve the automatic orchestration of network services and the assurance of their performance. Accordingly, in this paper, we propose a novel automated network assurance model, based on Model Predictive Control, to guarantee the Quality of Service (QoS) and security requirements of multi-tenant and IBN-enabled SFCs. In this context, corrective decisions are proactively taken, in the form of incoming intent relocations among the SFCs. The results reveal that our model can assure with high probability the application requirements and minimize QoS violations.

The options for ensuring timely delivery of packages to the addressee in networks with duplication of communication paths with the addressee for some subscribers are analyzed. Connecting subscribers to two communication routes with the addressee allows you to load-balance routes and carry out duplicated transmissions aimed at increasing the probability of delivering at least one copy of the transmitted packet in the required time. The possibilities of using route switch nodes for traffic management and replication of transmitted packets are analyzed. At the same time, two variants of duplicated transmissions are considered. For the first option, new replicas and ways of their transmission to the addressee are formed in one of the nodes connecting the existing paths by the first accepted replica. The replica coming in second is destroyed. For the second option, changing the transmission paths of replicas generated from the source in the nodes linking the paths is not carried out. The area of effectiveness of the proposed variants of duplicated transmissions is shown. The influence of the location of route switches on the timeliness of package delivery from subscribers connected to one or two communication paths with the addressee is investigated. The existence of an optimal arrangement of route switches is shown. © 2022 IEEE.

An approach to substantiating the choice of a discipline for the maintenance of a redundant computer system, with the possible use of node resources saved after failures, is considered. The choice is aimed at improving the reliability and profitability of the system, taking into account the operational costs of restoring nodes. Models of reliability of systems with service disciplines are proposed, providing both the possibility of immediate recovery of nodes after failures, and allowing degradation of the system when using node resources stored after failures in it. The models take into account the conditions of the admissibility or inadmissibility of the loss of information accumulated during the operation of the system. The operating costs are determined, taking into account the costs of restoring nodes for the system maintenance disciplines under consideration © 2022 IEEE.

EcoWeedNet: A Lightweight and Automated Weed Detection Method for Sustainable Next-Generation Agricultural Consumer Electronics

Sustainable agriculture plays a crucial role in ensuring world food security for consumers. A critical challenge faced by sustainable precision agriculture is weed growth, as weeds share essential resources with the crops, such as water, soil nutrients, and sunlight, which notably affect crop yields. The traditional methods employed to combat weeds include the usage of chemical herbicides and manual weed removal methods However, these could damage the environment and pose health hazards. The adoption of automated computer vision technologies and ground agricultural consumer electronic vehicles in precision agriculture offers sustainable, low-carbon solutions. However, prior works suffer from issues such as low accuracy and precision and high computational expense. This work proposes EcoWeedNet, a novel model with enhanced weed detection performance without adding significant computational complexity, aligning with the goals of low-carbon agricultural practices. Additionally, our model is lightweight and optimal for deployment on ground-based consumer electronic agricultural vehicles and robots. The effectiveness of the proposed model is demonstrated through comprehensive experiments on the CottonWeedDet12 benchmark dataset reflecting real-world scenarios. EcoWeedNet achieves performance close to that of large models yet with much fewer parameters. (approximately 4.21% of the parameters and 6.59% of the GFLOPs of YOLOv4). This work contributes effectively to the development of automated weed detection methods for next-generation agricultural consumer electronics featuring lower energy consumption and lower carbon footprint. In recent years, many crowdsourcing platforms have emerged, using the resources of recruited workers to perform diverse outsourcing tasks, where the video analytics attracts much attention due to its practical implications. For maximum profits, platforms carefully choose the workers and determine the video analytics configurations to ensure accuracy;meanwhile, workers possess the flexibility to tailor the configurations for their indivi-dual gains, which makes it hard for platforms to optimize their profits considering the platform-worker conflicts. In this paper, we design an incentive mechanism for Multi-leader game-based video Analytics upon CROwdsourcing, named MACRO, to over-come the above situation. Under that mechanism, we first formu-late the utility optimization problems for platforms and workers, respectively. We then propose a dual ascent-based method to op-timally determine the video analytics configurations for a multi-platform game, ensuring Pareto efficiency. Moreover, in the context of a multi-leader game involving platform-worker conflicts, we design an incentive function with its incentive factor update strategy and propose an ADMM-based approach for maximizing incentives that motivate workers to contribute to the platforms' profits. Rigorous proofs demonstrate the linear convergence of the MACRO to the multi-leader Stackelberg equilibrium. Trace-driven experiments show that MACRO improves the Pareto efficiency by 26.3%, outperforming other approaches. © 2024 IEEE.
