The rapid advancement of deepfake technology has introduced significant challenges and opportunities across various domains. This article proposes a robust deepfake detection pipeline utilising a combination of attention mechanisms, pre-trained Vision Transformers (ViTs), and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks. The initial phase of the pipeline involves preparing photos and videos, potentially using optional facial detection to enhance accuracy. Vision Transformers derive features by capturing the global dependencies of input data. Long short-term memory (LSTM) networks address inter-frame temporal dependencies, whereas multi-head and traditional attention processes focus on essential elements. Ultimately, fully connected layers are employed for classification within the ensemble architecture, which consolidates the outcomes of several models. To ensure generalisability, assessment and regularisation approaches are employed to train the model using labelled datasets. Given the escalating threat of deepfakes, the findings indicate that the pipeline can consistently distinguish between genuine and fabricated information. © 2025 The Authors

American Sign Language (ASL) recognition aims to recognize hand gestures, and it is a crucial solution to communicating between the deaf community and hearing people. However, existing sign language recognition algorithms still have some drawbacks, such as difficulty recognizing hand movements and low recognition accuracy for most sign language recognition. A Modified Convolutional Neural Network (MCNN) deep residual 101 classifier-based American Sign Language identification system has been developed to address this problem. There are three main parts presents in the method. The first part is pre-processing the images to remove the noise, enhance the contrast of the picture, adjust the contrast level and smoothen the picture using various filters. The second part is the segmentation, and it’s used to partition the image using a modified canny edge detection method by removing all weak edges present in the image. Finally, classification will be done using the Modified CNN deep residual 101 classifiers. By classifying the image, the American Sign Language is accurately identified. This process is conducted through images. The outcome shows that the suggested approach has a 0.97% accuracy and a 0.05% False Positive Rate. Other CNN architectures such as resNet 50 and resNet 18 reached 0.90% and 0.80% accuracy, respectively, which is lower than our proposed method. In addition, the resNet 101 classifier effectively recognizes the difficult hand gestures through the image data. It obtains high recognition accuracy for 36 signs is 0 to 9 numbers and a to z alphabets from American Sign Language. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have found extensive applications across various fields, significantly enhancing the convenience in our daily lives. Hence, an in-creasing number of researchers are directing their attention toward the performance of sensor nodes, with a particular emphasis on addressing the coverage challenges in WSNs. Node coverage plays a crucial role in determining the detection performance of WSNs, making it imperative to attain maximum coverage with a given number of sensor nodes. This paper applies the Tumbleweed Algorithm (TA) to the coverage problem in WSNs and validates its effectiveness through simulation experiments. The results demonstrate its unique advantages in global search and avoiding local optima, providing a new solution for the WSN coverage problem and offering valuable references for future research and practical applications. The TA algorithm simulates the lifecycle of tumbleweed from seedling to mature plant and includes the concept of growth cycles. This paper compares the TA algorithm with PSO, GWO, DE, BOA, SCA, and AOA, setting different numbers of wireless sensor nodes and varying sensing radii for the experiments. The experimental results show that the TA algorithm significantly improves coverage rates under various configurations and consistently outperforms other commonly used algorithms. © 2025, Taiwan Ubiquitous Information CO LTD. Fruits are absolutely delicious for the most part, but more importantly, they are good for healthy life. Fruits are nature's candy and offer all sorts of health benefits besides the great taste. They provide necessary nutrients to the body so that it will not be susceptible to disease or other ailments. Fruits contain enough fiber to keep our digestive system in top health form. Fruits also helps to regulate the water level in body as well as your blood sugar levels, which means that will usually feel hungry less often if we consumes a lot of fruits. The easier it is for people to recognize that a fruit is ripe and ready for selling at the market allows the farmers, in some cases, to sell their crop early before it would normally spoil. If we look closely, we see that many times people don't buy something because it appears rotten or way past its peak ripeness, which demonstrates how products spoil right on time. This study proposed a user-convenient system for fruit ripeness detection using the convolutional neural network (CNN) based on RipeNet structure. © 2025 IEEE.

Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain due to adversative or challenging situations. A human may undergo bad life experiences or events, and it is a significant issue to be dealt in today's society. It comes as a result of family situations, health concerns, work environments and people's behavior among other things. It affects people of various ages, including children, teenagers, middle-aged people and senior citizens. It has serious consequences affecting human body and life. These problems can be addressed by detecting mental stress at an early stage. The main goal of the propounded system is to identify human stress using a pre-trained Mini-Xception model. Additional measures such as eye moments, mouth activity and head motion are employed for determining the level of human stress. FER2013 dataset is used and the system is tested for all kinds of emotions. Human stress level is experimented by capturing video using webcam. From the experimental outcomes, it is evident that the proposed system offers better performance in terms of Precision, Accuracy, Specificity and Sensitivity in contrast to traditional methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

A collaborative system that includes mobile devices (MDs), edge nodes (ENs), and the cloud is needed where ENs at the network edge can run offloaded tasks of MDs with limited resources and energy for timely processing for latency-sensitive applications. Unlike existing studies, we formulate a total cost minimization problem for the system for applications, which can be divided into several interdependent subtasks. Each subtask can be executed in MDs, ENs, and the cloud. This work formulates a mixed-integer nonlinear program to minimize the total system cost. To address it, a novel meta-heuristic optimization algorithm called Genetic Simulated-annealing-based Particle swarm optimization with Auto-Encoder (GSPAE) is proposed, which innovatively combines feature extraction of deep learning and global search of meta-heuristic optimization. Genetic operations provide diverse solutions, the Metropolis acceptance of annealing offers a robust global search, and autoencoders (AEs) extract distribution characteristics of particles toward high-quality regions for fast convergence. Thus, GSPAE optimizes the associations between ENs and MDs and the scheduling of subtasks among MDs, ENs, and the cloud. Experiments with large-scale Google cluster datasets show that compared to state-of-the-art benchmark methods, GSPAE reduces the total cost by at least 17% while strictly meeting limits of application latency, available energy, computing, and communication resources of ENs and MDs. © 2014 IEEE.

Text mining techniques, particularly those leveraging machine learning for natural language processing, have gained significant attention for qualitative data analysis in software testing. However, their complexity and lack of transparency can pose challenges, especially in safety-critical domains where simpler, interpretable solutions are often preferred unless accuracy is heavily compromised. This study investigates the trade-offs between complexity, effort, accuracy, and utility in text mining and clustering techniques, focusing on their application for detecting functional dependencies among manual integration test cases in safety-critical systems. Using empirical data from an industrial testing project at ALSTOM Sweden, we evaluate various string distance methods, NCD compressors, and machine learning approaches. The results highlight the impact of preprocessing techniques, such as tokenization, and intrinsic factors, such as text length, on algorithm performance. Findings demonstrate how text mining and clustering can be optimized for safety-critical contexts, offering actionable insights for researchers and practitioners aiming to balance simplicity and effectiveness in their testing workflows. © The Author(s) 2025.

Predictive analytics if combined with machine learning approaches have the potential to play a significant role in forecasting the spread of respiratory infections. Machine learning approaches aid in the mining of data to better assess and forecast the presence or absence of covid-19 infection. In this paper, XGBoost Ensemble Classification using a fine-tuned approach is being used. Various machine learning algorithms are being analyzed and XGBoost Ensemble Classification algorithm is used to forecast and predict the covid-19 infected patient recovery chances that is the possible outcome of a covid-19 infected patient along with the prediction probability of recovery. The suggested categorization model is applied to a variety of situations. When compared to other ensemble models like random forest, hybrid ensemble and other individual classifiers such as decision tree, logistic regression, K-nearest neighbor, support vector machine and Naive Bayes, the XGBoost Ensemble Classification model gave the highest accuracy. Predicting the correct class is important. Thus, the proposed system discusses the possibility of automated prediction for covid-19 infected patient recovery chances along with the probability of recovery and the effectiveness of such predictions. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The ability to handle threats, such as disinformation, manipulation of public opinion, and disruption of critical supplies, is becoming increasingly important, thus, necessitating, among other strategies, efforts to establish a proper risk communication to the public. This paper addresses the need for more empirical research in this area to contribute to the development of an in-depth understanding of public risk communication that includes information-related threats and cyber issues. The study involves officials of three public organizations entrusted with safety and security in society: the police, the rescue service, and the county administrative board of a county in the middle of Sweden. The results detail the recognition of risks to be communicated, the organization of the communication process, the messages that these actors seek to bring forth, and to whom as well as challenges of public risk communication in the digital era. The findings indicate that information-related and cyber risks are increasingly essential to consider as an additional layer of public communication. Two implications emerged as particularly important: (1) all communication about risks and crises must consider the systemic risk of mis- and disinformation, and (2) tailored communication about the risks interrelated with disinformation should use human-centered, dialogue-based, and moderated approaches. Further research can focus on associated challenges, considering the distribution of responsibilities, inter-organizational information sharing and cooperation, and the possibly stochastic effects on critical (information) infrastructures and, ultimately, societal values. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2025.

Researchers have recently created several deep learning strategies for various tasks, and facial recognition has made remarkable progress in employing these techniques. Face recognition is a noncontact, nonobligatory, acceptable, and harmonious biometric recognition method with a promising national and social security future. The purpose of this paper is to improve the existing face recognition algorithm, investigate extensive data-driven face recognition methods, and propose a unique automated face recognition methodology based on generative adversarial networks (GANs) and the center symmetric multivariable local binary pattern (CS-MLBP). To begin, this paper employs the center symmetric multivariant local binary pattern (CS-MLBP) algorithm to extract the texture features of the face, addressing the issue that C2DPCA (column-based two-dimensional principle component analysis) does an excellent job of removing the global characteristics of the face but struggles to process the local features of the face under large samples. The extracted texture features are combined with the international features retrieved using C2DPCA to generate a multifeatured face. The proposed method, GAN-CS-MLBP, syndicates the power of GAN with the robustness of CS-MLBP, resulting in an accurate and efficient face recognition system. Deep learning algorithms, mainly neural networks, automatically extract discriminative properties from facial images. The learned features capture low-level information and high-level meanings, permitting the model to distinguish among dissimilar persons more successfully. To assess the proposed technique’s GAN-CS-MLBP performance, extensive experiments are performed on benchmark face recognition datasets such as LFW, YTF, and CASIA-WebFace. Giving to the findings, our method exceeds state-of-the-art facial recognition systems in terms of recognition accuracy and resilience.
